Stephen King’s Marvel DARK TOWER project delayed until 2007 [More: Here]

MATT “NWA” MORRISON: Marvel hypes something it can’t deliver. In other news, leading scientists found that water is wet.

IAIN “TNA” BURNSIDE: At least there shouldn’t be any delays in the schedule once it does start coming out. Well, maybe.

PAUL “NJPW” SEBERT: A little disapointing, but understandable. With a project this big it’s better to wait rather than debut it early and wind up with a potential SPIDER-MAN/BLACK CAT or SECRET WAR type situation.

KEVIN “ROH” MAHONEY: Well, just so long as it actually comes out monthly, it’ll still sell scads and scads of books. And probably deservedly so. I’m a big fan of Roland, and I’d wait a year no problem.

IAIN BURNSIDE: Okay, so Stephen King is no longer being billed as the writer of the Marvel DARK TOWER books. He’s the “Executive Editor and Creative Director”. Riiiiiiiiight.

But hey, whatever, I’m not going to be reading it anyway. I still just want him to write that book about the giant lamp monster.

Preview of George Perez’s JSA #82 [Seriously: Preview]

PAUL SEBERT: George Perez’s pencils always look good, and you really can’t go wrong when there’s Gentleman Ghost on the cover.

MATT MORRISON: Gorgeous. Absolutely bloody gorgeous.

IAIN BURNSIDE: I finally got the second volume of the Wolfman/Perez NEW TEEN TITANS ARCHIVES. They’re brilliant stories even by today’s standards so I can’t imagine what it must have been like to read them back in the early ’80s. They certainly made me chuffed. I even managed to find it brand-new for half-price, which greatly increased the chuffness.

KEVIN MAHONEY: I know this is practically sacriledge, but I never liked his art. And still don’t. It was the reason the JLA/AVENGERS thing never gelled for me. Perez has perfect anatomy, but nothing else to speak of in my opinion. I’d rather have lots of other people on JSA including Matt Wagner, Sad, Snej, and even less well known folks.

Captain Carrot returns in TEEN TITANS [World: Ends]

PAUL SEBERT: Extremely cool of Geoff Johns to bring in the involvement of Captain Carrot creator/Oddball Comics guru Scott Shaw involved in this project. (Which started out as an April Fools joke in WIZARD.) Personally though I’d love to see a Captain Carrot show done in the style of the Krypto cartoon.

KEVIN MAHONEY: It’s a cute gimmick, but I think Bart would be an even bigger fan of Flaming Carrot (Ut!) but anything that harkens back to the pre-KF2 Bart is a good thing.

MATT MORRISON: It is official. The circle is complete. The classic DCU is returned.

Choke on that, you Kara Zor-El haters.

IAIN BURNSIDE: I’m not choking on anything until Captain Planet comes back. Yes, I know he’s not a DC character but that doesn’t matter because he’s Captain Planet! He’s our hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero!

Mike Carey on the end of LUCIFER [Sympathy: Devil]

MATT MORRISON: I’ve been collecting this book since issue one and I will miss it greatly once it is gone. *sighs* It was every bit the equal of SANDMAN and hopefully Vertigo will have the sense to keep Mike Carey on doing something…

IAIN BURNSIDE: He’s doing a six issue mini called FAKER with Jock next year. Some kind of college student horror thing. I fear clarity.

Screenshots of the ULTIMATE AVENGERS DVD released [Screen: Shot]

PAUL SEBERT: Is this the same animation team that did X-MEN EVOLUTION? The art style looks quite similar. I hope they don’t try too hard to imitate Miller’s edgy style.

MATT MORRISON: Why am I suddenly having GI Joe flashbacks?

IAIN BURNSIDE: He’s our powers magnified! And he’s fighting on the planet side!

MATT MORRISON: Okay… someone spiked Iain’s Irish Coffee with coffee again.

IAIN BURNSIDE: Flucloxacillin, actually…

X-MEN 3 teaser trailer released [Tease: Here]

“ECW” COREN: And..the X3 teaser gives me some small measure of hope back. What’s the current status on the major rumors right now? Because it’d be great if they all turned out to be wrong.

MATT MORRISON: Oh irony of ironies… I cannot view the trailer because of a “bad public atom”…

Mike Marts (almost) unveils the new Horsemen of the Apocalypse [More: Here]

COREN: First, that interview is wrong. Bobby had a second stage mutation, actually turning into ice, didn’t he? And now he’s totally human again (meanwhile, other people who’s mutation kept them alive are not reverting to normal when they get depowered. Yay consistency! But the new Horsemen look interesting if nothing else.

IAIN BURNSIDE: I thought Iceman had magically gained his mutant powers back?

COREN: Iceman’s a mutant again? What? When? Why? How? (Feel free to add Who and Where if appropriate)

IAIN BURNSIDE: Apparently he got them back at the end of X-MEN #178. I didn’t read it myself but I’m told it was a self-imposed mental block, a lack of confidence, that had stopped him from using his powers. Or something along those lines. Basically, the editors just wanted the ol’ Bobby Drake back in action.

PAUL SEBERT: I’m going to guess that the new Horseman is going to be Sunfire as well, I doubt they really would kill him off for good in Rogue’s spin-off.

MANOLIS “WCW” VAMVOUNIS: Let’s take a look at those candidates:

Well, first of all, we can safely rule out Sebastian Shaw and Beast, as they are both appearing in Whedon’s title. Ozymandias is also unlikely as a Horseman, since he is already a pawn of Apocalypse, there’s no real drama in him becoming a Horseman.

There’s still nine muties left. Out of them, four are current members of the X-Men cast: Havok, Polaris, Gambit and Mystique. Gambit is highly unlikely, but Polaris… In the past Apocalypse has often went after the downtrodden mutants, the ones who have lost their powers or become handicapped and tried to enlist them in the ranks of his Horsemen with promise of restoration and power. Polaris fits there, since she is currently unstable and tries to hide the loss of her powers. This shoe would also fit for Moonstar and Sunfire, while Erg and Dark Beast with their Morlock origins also make prime candidates. Personally, Moonstar and Polaris would make great Horsemen (Horsewomen? Horsepersons!). Ever since Lobdell’s twisted Moonstar from AOA, I have been hopnig for this! The tease is ”one, maybe two X-Men”, so my picks are:

Moonstar
Polaris
Erg

Say hello to your new Blue Beetle [Hello: There!]

PAUL SEBERT: He looks like a Power Ranger.

Really all DC needs is a Red Beetle, a Green Beetle, a Yellow Beetle, and a Pink Beetle and a mysterious Silver Beetle. Oh, and Giant Robots!

JESSE “USWA” BAKER: That’s already in the works ironically enough, as Super Sentai 2006 is supposed to be a Beetle themed Sentai. Which means come 2007, we’ll be seeing “Power Rangers Beetle Force”.

KEVIN MAHONEY: Hey, wait, wasn’t the Green Ranger the mysterious one? Anyway, I think the new outfit looks a lot like Abe Sapien.

JESSE BAKER: Shurikenger was only a mystery Green Ranger and that was only on Hurricangers, as Disney opted to make the tech guy on Ninja Storm (the PR version of Hurricangers) the Green Ranger/Shurikenger via a nonsensical sweeps month “Travel back in time, get his parents to hook up and help them beat the ninja who’ll become the Big Bad in the present as a result of said defeat and gain his mom’s Power Ranger powers as his reward” time paradox…

DARON “WWE” KAPPAUFF: Is it scary to anyone else that Jesse knows so much about Power Rangers?

PAUL SEBERT: Just as long as they don’t make it an update on Big Bad Beetle Borgs I’ll be happy.

Warren Ellis brings the New New Universe back [But: Seriously]

KEVIN MAHONEY: Well, Marvel is pushing the New Universe again? Is it doomsday already?

MATT MORRISON: Yes, the New New Universe!

(To be completed in 2009. We apologize for the inconvience.)

PAUL SEBERT: I’m guessing they’re doing this because those New Universe themed issues of EXILES were selling pretty good while no-one was looking.

Greg Rucka talks about the new CHECKMATE title [Further: Here]

KEVIN MAHONEY: And count me in for the CHECKMATE series. Anything that’s shadowy and conspiracy ridden written by Rucka ought to be keen.

– Kurt Busiek is leaving CONAN [Fond: Farewell]

MATT MORRISON: I like Kurt and will be sad to see him go, but I think Tim Truman will be a worthy replacement. And I can’t believe Newsarama didn’t get this, but I got the official press release at work and EX MACHINA artist Tony Harris is coming on as the cover artist for CONAN at the same time.
