The Weekly Pulse – TV's Second Wife

Archive

Before I bring you the week that was here at Pulse TV..I must say that this has been a SLOW week for TV. And you can expect this for the next two or three weeks. Things will pick back up in 2006, but for 2005..you got nothing!

For me..’The O.C.’ is done as of last night’s “Chrismukkah” episode! Check out my recap later on. Ah..but I will still be very active around here. I have fresh and new episodes of the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge’! That’s what happens when you get a show that doesn’t start until December. So I’m glad it worked out that way.

On second thought, this past week may be the busiest one of December. Because at least this week you had the finales of ‘The Amazing Race’ and ‘Survivor’. That means you got those recaps, plus people commenting on them. But next week..you got nothing! What will people talk about? I have no idea. And isn’t ‘The Apprentice’ wrapping up soon as well? Dang..this place may be dead until 2006!

I guess I better get ready to warm up the old DVD player and watch some reruns! But just remember..“when you haven’t seen an episode in over 6 months..it’s all new again to you”! At least for me it is. Yeah..you’ve seen them before, but if you see the opening shot of a TV show and can’t immediately know what will happen, along with quoting lines of dialogue, then the show can’t be a rerun for you..can it?!

Anyways on with the show! Roll opening credits!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“Please, a little respect, for I am Costanza, Lord of the Idiots!”George Costanza

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. The Light Edition

Mathan Erhardt doesn’t want to let go. He doesn’t want to say goodbye to ‘Arrested Development’ or ‘Kitchen Confidential’. Get over it! Watch the shows and then keep them to watch them over again whenever you want to! He did watch some other shows, though. Those include ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘My Name Is Earl’, ‘The Boondocks, ‘The Office’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘Nip/Tuck’, and ‘Sleeper Cell’. And finishes with even more comments on ‘The Boondocks’!

Sarah Quigley talks about ‘The Apprentice’. It is getting close to finishing for the season. Read what Sarah has to say about the show and who she thinks should win?!

Dora Malone opens up her head and lets you take a look at her brain. What’s on her brain? Of course, it’s the finale of ‘Survivor’. What does she have to say before the finale aired?!

Matt Basilo is back on Monday for you. He talks mostly about ‘Survivor’. But he does mention ‘The O.C.’, ‘Lost’, and ‘Reunion’. He blames baseball as one of the reasons ‘Reunion’ is now cancelled. See..I told you it would happen!

DeeDee reviews the latest episode of ‘Nip/Tuck’. Check out her comments!

Patrick Gilchriest checks in for the final time to talk about ‘Survivor’ and the finale!

Kevin Wong has his thoughts as well on the winners of ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Amazing Race’. In addition, he ranks all the seasons of ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Amazing Race’. See where he thinks the recent seasons rank against past seasons!

This week we had only 1 DVD review! More is coming next week (Wink..Wink)!

Robert Sutton has a review of the
fourth volume of Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

Celebrities and Other Stuff, but Not This Week a.k.a. Celebrity Light!!

Murtz and former ‘Survivor’, Eliza, talk ‘Survivor’ once more. Only one episode left! And speaking of that last episode. They are back one last time! Go read their comments on the finale! Enjoy it, because it is all over with!

Everyone else took the week off..I suppose.

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week I asked the question…”what do you think about movies based on TV shows?”. So here are the results:

They RULE! – 0
They SUCK! – 2
Most are GOOD, but some are BAD! – 0
Most are BAD, but some are GOOD! – 2

Not a big voter turnout! I blame the holidays! Everyone is tired from shopping or since no new TV is on, there is no need to vote. Anyways..it looks like the masses agree with me again. These movies SUCK or at least most of them! Which is basically what I said..so there you go. My streak continues!

Non onto this week’s question. It is a simple question. See below for more explanation, but here is the question..“what do you think about cartoons today?” So click on the link and VOTE NOW! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. What’s the Deal with Cartoons?!?!

Alright, time to shake things up a bit. Lets open up a huge can of worms. I ask you this question..“what’s the deal with cartoons?”! Why do people love them so much?

Let me clarify for a second. I am not talking about your Saturday morning cartoons for the kiddies or your Nickelodeon cartoons. I am talking about your “adult” cartoons. Cartoon shows like ‘The Simpsons’, ‘King of the Hill’, ‘Family Guy’, and ‘South Park’. Or how about any of the “Adult Swim” cartoons on the Cartoon Network!

Why do people LOVE cartoons so much? I just found out that Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” programming has beaten the pants off of David Letterman, Jay Leno, and the “late-night talk crew” in the ratings, especially among 18-24 year olds! But why?

Does it go back to your childhood days? We started watching cartoons as kids and continued into adulthood. Does that have something to do with it? I just don’t get it sometimes. Hey..I will give anything a shot. I can laugh at a ‘Simpsons’ episode any day, but it’s just not my first choice. A cartoon show doesn’t do it for me anymore. I just don’t see what the big deal is. They are cartoons that are for adults. Okay..but so what?

Cartoons are popping up on almost every network! They have more success on cable TV, but they are on FOX as well. Even NBC had that ‘Father of the Pride’ show on its station for a bit. It didn’t last, but they still had it! Cartoons bring in the ratings, so they will stick around. They also bring in merchandise money! You can make cute little toys out of the characters. You can’t do that much with regular shows. Although..a Seth Cohen doll would ROCK! AND ROLL!

Again..I am not knocking these shows. I will be trying out ‘The Boondocks’ later this week. My TiVo is set to record it! So I will see what all the fuss is about. Once I figured out it was a cartoon show..I figured out why I had never heard of the show before. Cartoons go right past my radar. I am just trying to find out why people watch them so much today. I would rather watch a regular comedy show. I am probably in the minority around here, but oh well. I can watch cartoons, but I lose interest very quickly! I don’t know why..I just do.

Another interesting note about this all is the fact that I like cartoon movies. Movies like ‘Shrek’, ‘Finding Nemo’, ‘Monsters Inc’, ‘Ice Age’, Shark Tale’..I found them all interesting and fun to watch. But I couldn’t see myself watching a cartoon TV show every week. It sounds weird, but it’s true.

However, for LOTS of people..animated shows are the bizzle as Snoop would say. What has caused this great love affair with cartoons today? That is what I want to know. If you want to tell me, then bring it on. I would LOVE to hear your reasons why you like cartoons or why you think other people like them?

Well that does it for me again this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome, especially if they have to do with cartoons this week!

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
