The Movie

Upon seeing commercials for this DVD, I had very low expectations. After seeing what I thought was the end of the franchise in American Wedding, I was happy that it was over as it crawled to an end. After seeing this, I can say that I was pleasantly surprised and hope this leads to a rejuvenation of the franchise.

Matt Stifler, younger brother of the notorious Steve Stifler, thinks he is the “Stiffmeister” in every way. His older brother is apparently now directing porn movies while Matt is about to end his junior year of high school. On graduation day, Matt and friends decide to send the seniors off by putting pepper spray on all of the band member’s instruments. This has its desired effect but Matt gets caught after getting some pepper spray on his crotch.

A nod to the past comes next as the schools guidance counselor, the returning “Sherminator” (Chris Owen), sends Matt off to band camp as his punishment. It is a punishment for him and seemingly some payback for his brother’s sins.

Matt wants in on the family “business” so he orders spy equipment and decides to film the band geeks doing all of their freaky band camp sex stuff that his brother has told him about.

While trying to accomplish that goal Matt runs into a few problems such as Elyse, his former friend and bandleader and the rest of her band that he is forced to join. He is also urged to become human by a returning Eugene Levy, playing Jim’s Dad. He is the “MACRO” (Disciplinarian), filling in for Michelle because she is pregnant. So will Matt live up the Stifler history or will he become a human being and drop the act? It’s better for you to check this out and find out for yourself.

The acting in this movie is actually pretty well done. Tad Hilgenbrink does a damn good job of channeling Stifler, even if it is over the top at times. Eugene Levy is his normal fantastic self, but in watching him you do realize that Jason Biggs provides the perfect fodder for him, as there is something to be desired in how his character works in the film. Arielle Kebbel, who I honestly did a double take on to make sure it wasn’t Mandy Moore, provides an angelic face to the leader of the band. Most of the movies have you believe that all the band people are freaks, but she is so cute that you can’t help but feel for her and want her to succeed.

Overall, the movie is incredibly well done and should have gone to theaters, just to take that shot. It opens up a whole new world of “Pie” and could honestly stretch the franchise for a few more runs.

Score: 8/10

The Video

The copy I received is a screener so it has its flaws. I’m sure the version out on Dec. 26th will be fine.

The Sound

No noticeable errors.

The Extras

Outtakes: The standard fare, always fun.

Deleted Scenes: Some of these scenes are hilarious and one in particular with Eugene Levy should have never been cut.

Band Camp Dirty Diary: The cast does their own diary with video cameras. This is actually a really fun piece. I’m a fan of the people behind the characters most times, so it’s interesting to see them running around like kids.

Poolside with Band Camp Girls: This is a spoof (sort of) of Inside The Actors Studio, a sexual innuendo filled interview with the Playmates that were in the movie.

Band Camp’s Dirty Secrets: The Playmates take you behind the scenes.

Rover Cam Uncut: The other character in the movie, the rover cam is a camera on wheels and these are the scenes they didn’t show in the movie. Some really funny stuff.

Band Camp Girls: The Music Video: The Playmates dance to “Baby Got Back”

Unrated Love Lessons with Ginger Lynne: Since she was in the movie, you knew they’d have her do something like this. It’s basically Ginger Lynne teaching Ernie how to make a girl happy via video on the rover cam. Needless to say she gets very into it.

Overall the extras are pretty good. The diary is very fun to watch. I never thought I would say this, but I could’ve done with a little less Playmates and a little more of the rest of the cast.
