Thanks to Larry Goodman for sending these in…

Derrick Neikirk became the new Deep South Wrestling heavyweight champion at last night’s DSW show at the Deep South Arena in McDonough, Georgia. Neikirk beat Miz for the belt in the main event of the first hour and retained the title in hour number two by defeating Miz in a loser leaves town match.

DSW crew is showing progress across the board. They’re better at connecting with the crowd and playing to the camera. They mostly stick with basic stuff that looks good and sell it much better than a few months ago. They make sure the finishes are well done. The striking is stiff. The character development is coming along nicely. On the downside, there’s a nagging sameness to the moves used in many of the match that detracts from the overall effect.

(1) The Regulators (Todd & Mike Shane with Tranisha) beat Ryan Reeves & Damien Steele in a short match. Reeves got early offense. Regulators beat on Steele, cheated when ref Mike Posey’s back was turned and pinned him with a double team.

(2) Roughhouse O’Reilly beat Freakin’ Deacon when Palmer Canon’s interference backfired (2:22). More angle than match. Fans are into to both these guys pretty strong. Deacon goozled O’Reilly and threw him around. Deacon used a classic Magnum T. A. belly to belly suplex. O’Reilly was on the comeback trail when Canon made his way to ringside. Deacon capitalized on the distraction. Deacon had O’Reilly set up to take a pop from Canon. O’Reilly reversed it. The heels collided. O’Reilly pinned Deacon with a Russian legsweep. O’Reilly brought Canon in the hardway, but before he could do any damage, Deacon nailed O’Reilly with a Yakuza kick and choked him out. Deacon walked out the front door.

(3) Montel Montavious Porter beat Ray Gordy via submission in 4:25. Porter is the newly-minted, arrogant, trash talking persona for Shawn Banks. Porter made light of Gordy’s height. Porter stunned Gordy with an elbow to the chops and beat the daylights out of him. Haymaker for two, overhead belly to belly, elbow drop for two. Gordy rallied with a Thesz Press and a little ground and pound of his own. Gordy hit an inverted DDT and went up for a top rope splash, but there was no water in the pool. Porter slapped on the crossface for the tap out.

(4) Derrick Neikirk (with Mike Knox) beat Miz to win the DSW heavyweight title in 11:37. Miz is the man in Deep South. The kids were running up to rail to slap his hand. They wrestled to a stand off. Miz did a flippy reversal on a double wristlock. Neikirk socked him in the face. Miz took control with a side headlock. Niekirk hung Miz out to dry on a dropkick at the four minute mark and posted his shoulder. Neikirk dissected Miz’s shoulder. Miz went through the legs to catch Neikirk in a modified STF. Neikirk made the ropes. His back was hurting and he was pissed. Both men selling big here. Miz made the comeback with a lariat off the middle rope. Miz scored a series of near falls. The people thought he had it on a couple of them. Neikirk was reeling. Miz stomped a mudhole in him. Neikirk sagged to the mat. Knox slipped a foreign object into Neikirk’s hand. Niekirk clocked Miz with the gimmick and covered to become the second DSW champion. Neikirk and Knox celebrated with Miz laid out in the center of the ring.

Durng the intermission, a fired up Miz challenged Neikirk to a rematch.

A smoking hot Kristal Marshall (Smackdown interviewer) assisted “homeless ring announcer” Dan Masters with the raffle.

The crowd popped when Masters mentioned that DSW superstar Kid Kash was the new WWE cruiserweight champion.

(5) Tony Santarelli beat Eric Perez in 6:13 Good pop for Santarelli. Perez created a diversion by pretending that his eyes were being raked. He proceeded to give Santarelli a beating. Perez posted Santarelli’s shoulder and it began to look like a repeat of the previous match. Perez hit a sweet shoulderbreaker for a near fall. When Perez jumped off the ropes, Santarelli tried to make him eat a boot. Perez grabbed that foot, so Santarelli landed a series of kicks with the other foot. Santarelli potatoed Perez with a kick in the head for a two count and got another two count with a spinwheel kick. Perez hit a divorce court but couldn’t keep Santarelli’s shoulders down. Perez acted disturbed. Perez pulled the straps down and charged. Santarell stepped through the ropes and put Perez’s lights out with an enzuigiri from the apron. Great looking finish.

Masters said Assassin had signed the Niekirk/Miz rematch as the main event with two stipulations. 1) All DSW personnel were banned from ringside. Anyone violating the ban would be fined AND suspended. 2) It was a loser leaves town match. That got the crowd buzzing.

(6) Roughhouse O’Reilly beat Montel Montavious Porter in 4:08. More working on the arm. Porter cheated on the break. Porter went up and over O’Reilly to hit a hangman neckbreaker for a near fall. O’Reilly regained the advantage with a pair of drop toeholds that didn’t click. O’Reilly blocked the crossface and countered with a full nelson slam to score the pinfall.

(7) Mike Knox beat Ryan Reeves in 4:47. Reeves does lots of flexing and the crowd seems to dig on it. Reeves tried to show Knox that he was the bull of the woods. Knox cheated on the break and opened up on Reeves. Knox hit a back suplex and slingshot senton. Knox went to work on Reeves’ abs. Reeves put Knox on the deck with a flying shoulder block and a corner lariat. Knox overbalanced Reeves on an aborted bodyslam. Reeves took a big charging chest bump into the buckles, and Knox caught him a swinging downward spiral deal for the pin. Impressive finisher.

(8) Derrick Neikirk beat Miz to retain the DSW heavyweight title in 12:07. They traded at the opening bell. Miz was getting the best of it so Neikirk bailed. Miz followed Neikirk out and delivered more punishment. Miz hit a lariat at ringside. Back inside, Miz did the 10 punches. Neikirk wobbled and fell on his face. Miz did a skin the cat (Shawn Michaels he’s not) and hit a neckbreaker for a near fall. Neikirk once again retreated to ringside, but it was a trap. Neikirk rammed Miz’s back into every fixed object in the vicinity. Back inside, Neikirk hit a Saito suplex. Repeated pin attempts yielded only two counts. Neikirk ripped up the ringside mat and gave Miz a snap suplex on the concrete. Miz barely beat the 10 count. Well done. Niekirk was all over Miz’ lower back. He applied single leg crab. Neikirk got in the ref’s face when Miz refused to submit. Miz came back with a climbing bulldog. Both men slow to rise. Miz came up firing rights and lefts. Miz hit a spinning sideslam for a long two count. Miz went for his middle rope lariat, but Neikirk countered with an overhead suplex. Neikirk brought a chair in. Miz ducked the chairshot, snapped off a headscissors and followed with a basement dropkick for another close two count. Neikirk has a great knack for kicking out at the last split second. Posey got bumped on a flying bodypress by Miz that didn’t really connect. Miz hit his finisher for a visual fall. While Miz was reviving Posey, Neikirk rolled to the floor and grabbed the chair. Miz went after Neikirk, who swung for the fences with a wicked chairshot right between the eyes. The crowd groaned on impact. One arm cover for the 1-2-3. Miz sold it like he couldn’t find his way back to the dressing room. I hope he can find his way to Louisville.
