Episode 2.13: Begin the Begin

The docs toast the New Year with a mandatory work limit, which Cristina finds constricting, and she complains about it to Bailey as they fly to harvest a heart for a patient with a crush on Izzie. Other patients include a frustrated novelist who has eaten his novel and a 14-year-old girl who hasn’t reached puberty and yearns to be “normal.” Elsewhere, Addison detests Derek’s trailer; Burke asks Cristina to move in with him; and Derek visits Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) without Meredith’s knowledge.
Izzie seems to be getting over Alex when she shares an undeniable chemistry with Denny Duquette, a patient who’s awaiting a heart transplant. He talks with her pulling the plug and wonders if she would be charged with murder by staying in the room if/when he would pulled it. They make a few jokes and talk about the intern’s love life. The intern becomes friends with Denny but the latter’s health is not improving.
George finds that 14-year-old Bex, a hermaphrodite, who’s been admitted at the hospital because of a lymphoma, is sicker than what expected. The teen reveals that she’s been taking 10 birth-control pills a day to ensure that they were working. The doctor and Bex have a good connection and she reveals more about herself. The patient’s parents want their daughter to be operated but that no one tells her exactly what it is for. But what will happen when the doctor in charge is not able to lie to the patient?
