Marvel Handbook

Welcome to another Marvel Handbook.

Hey Daron. I really don’t know why the article was late last week. I can tell you I posted it Tuesday and everything on the board went fluky after. So it’s possible it didn’t stay there so I reposted it Thursday after checking. Either way we got it up.

So how are you?

It’s all good, I wasn’t that upset. I only ate one small child out of anger”¦ And I’m okay, I’m a bit tired. No matter how much sleep I get I still seem to always be tired.

Fine here. Let’s start.

“¦I didn’t ask.

Roger emails

Hey Marvel Guys,

Hey Roger

Got to throw in my $.02 on the Superman/Thor’s hammer debate. Superman never lifted the hammer. Thor threw the hammer to Supes with all he had left. Supes caught the hammer, and in one motion used it (and some Super strength) to break open Krona’s fortress. Each panel showed the hammer getting closer to the ground before it was blasted from his hand(he couldn’t hold it up.) So he never lifted it, just used the momentum of Thor’s throw. And while I think that Thor can beat just about anyone in a fight, I kinda agree on Superman winning a first fight against him. Besides his powers, Thor is a very skilled combatant. He’d never faced anyone with the array of powers that Superman has at his disposal. While the heat vision wouldn’t give him too much trouble (Mjolnir can handle it), the flight and speed are too much of an edge. It would probably take Thor about 2-3 fights before starting to gain an advantage using the lightning and Anti-force, and then a few more fights for Supes to adjust, and vice-versa. If they fought 10 times, Thor would win 5 or 6 times. In my own humble opinion, of course. Keep in mind that Thor did “defeat” Galactus with a bolt of Anti-force from Mjolnir. It was while the big “G” was fighting Ego, but still.

Hmmmmmmmm it’s not about the fight. I have to agree the fight would be hard to pick a winner but Thor has the slight advantage with the magic angle. It’s Supes weakness. It was the hammer thing. BUT if he can’t hold it full time I have no complaints. The idea he caught it and threw it I can see. Hell I think Hulk did that once.

But full lifting takes more then strength. So Supes can’t do it all around. The idea of catching and throwing works for me.

I’ll save all my comments on this till the end”¦

Jaymax posted

Hey Jim,

Hey Jay

Just a bit on your top ten Marvel guys who need to get laid…Hulk having sex with Umar in the recent Defenders series is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in a comic.

I admit that was great. I give you that one. Hell it was too good to not include. I loved that Defenders series myself. It was a funny limited. I’d love to see them keep it around.

As far as some of the others…I’d definitely put Dr. Strange on that list. Having his wife living in the Dark Dimension definitely has clearly put a crimp in the good Doctor’s style. He seems…grouchy.

Well then that would make his comment in Defenders mute. I know Strange isn’t gay but that one comment about Wong was as gay as you can get.

See how cool the good Doctor is, I have a feeling he’s getting some on the side”¦you know the 100 mile rule thing and all”¦

A_Faceless_Name posted

I think it is obvious that Strange and Namor will be getting it on in defenders. The Sexual tension is immense!

I don’t know. I think there’s more sexual tension between Namor and Hulk. They either want to beat the crap out of each other or want to touch each othe’s muscles.

You know with each new email here I’m feeling dirtier and dirtier”¦and just a little disgusted, but only a little.

Beadle posted

Jim,

Beadle

As far as your list of the best fighters is concerned, why just list the good guys?

I think the full list should be something like:
1) Taskmaster
2) Ronin / Hush
3) Karnak
4) Thor
5) Hercules (Both of these gods have often been listed as being far superior fighters to even Cap, ignoring the strength thing).
6) Elektra
7) Captain America
8) Shang-Chi
9) Iron Fist
10) Punisher / Wolverine / Sabretooth (tied)

Hush is DC lol

But you made a good point. I’m making a new list just for the reason of adding in some characters.

1. Taskmaster
2. Captain America
3. Wolverine
4. Shang-Chi
5. Iron Fist
6. Karnak
7. Thor
8. Hercules
9. Punisher / Nick Fury
10. Deadpool/ Cable

Then you get into guys like Daredevil, Midnight Sun, Bullseye, Crossbones, Black Widow, Black Panther etc. Tough draw. And I didn’t include Vargas (mainly because it was in X-Treme X-Men and I therefore can’t list him without a nasty taste in my mouth) or Champion of the Universe.

You know what I may have to do is a nice round of 64 with just fighters from Marvel. I’ll randomize the ranks. Powers like Cosmic and weapons can’t be used of course.

Another thing is I’m not counting the dead. There are a few that could make it in that are dead. I’ll come up with the tournament ranks and start it as soon as I can.

This competition just makes my head hurt. Are we talking about “fighters” or guys who use ridiculous powers to “fight”? I don’t think the god’s or anyone with strength enhancing powers should really be considered when talking about the greatest fighters. Just because Supes can punch Hulk into orbit doesn’t land him a spot on the DC top ten fighters in my book. If we’re going to look at the best fighters in Marvel it should be limited to those people who have to actually rely on skill (or abilities centered around fighting not strength). Because lets face it, if Thor or Herc were powerless and weaponless, they would most likely get their asses handed to them by just about everyone else on the list. They’re brute force fighters who don’t bother dodging or weaving, but instead just take whatever punishment their given and try and dish out twice as much as they’re receiving. I’d say let’s try this again with these rules in place”¦unless you all disagree”¦

And also, I don’t Cap should be quite so high on the list. Yes he’s a good fighter, but I’m thinking Shang-Chi, Iron Fist and others who have been trained for decades are probably much better fighters.

Andy emails

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water again…

I wanted to weigh-in on your Superman and Thor debate. In the context
of the story Supes holding and using the hammer made sense. Remember
Thor threw it to him to use to help break the barrier. Did Superman try
to call up lightning, thunder or use the enchantments in any way? No.
As Thor said to him later when he tried to pick Mjolnir up, once in a
while the spell can put on hold (so to speak) if there is a noble spirit
using it for noble purposes. Even Captain America once threw the
hammer to Thor when he was in trouble. So in the end Superman was able to
use the hammer only because he was using it for a purpose to help
others. In that context it is fine.

I look forward to hearing your rebuttal.

Out here.

Yeah as I said earlier that if it’s just to throw it and stuff I see the fact and idea of Supes doing it.

Cap can hold the hammer. He can lift it. Cap has believes in his country and is a very worthy soul. Thor has said so himself. He knows Cap was worthy when he first lifted it and before such.

Supes isn’t like Cap. He used to be. I’m talking old Superman. Not the one in DC now. Heck Earth 2 Superman might be able to. Just not current one.

Jim”¦get off the crack.

I actually agree with Andy here pretty much, and what he’s saying is pretty much the same thing as what the previous emailer said this week. The fact that he was able to use it at all says that he was worthy of it, otherwise it would have simply dropped”¦ no matter how strong he is.

Jim’s comment about the different versions of Supes is crap. If any version of Supes is worthy, it would be true for the rest (except evil versions). It’s becoming apparent that some of you are allowing a dislike for a character blind you to the truth.

And just for the record, when this argument started I didn’t realize we were arguing a actual case i.e. the Avengers/JLA crossover. I thought we were just talking about a theoretical event.

Cory emails

Hope all is going well for you guys, so here we go. First, I figured you guys answered the whole comic spectrum, so I do take the blame for that Rogue/Colossus question…lol

1 & 2 are in response to my Top 5 list of characters that really NEED to get laid:

1-Doesn’t Black Panther(#7) have somewhat of a “mutual” relationship with Storm, so how/why would he be on the list?

Actually that won’t start again until later this year. Right now BP has no one but will have Storm soon full time

2- Daredevil(#10)??? He has a “sex buddy” relationship with Black Widow(Natasha) last time I checked, am I right?

Um he’s not with BW anymore. Right now he’s moving around some. He has BW, Elektra and his former wife Milla. He needs to settle on one was my point. Not that he don’t get enough.

I believe you’re right, Cory”¦even if Jim doesn’t want to answer your actual question.

3- During DC vs. Marvel, I noticed Wolverine & Gambit carjacking the Batmobile from Bats & Nightwing…..so would would win that lil battle between Mr. LeBeau & Mr. Grayson?

Hmmmmmmm I’m betting Daron takes Nightwing just because he wants Remy dead. I’m not going to give a fight for that reason

BUT I do think Dick can take out Gambit. I’m serious. Nightwing is one of the best fighters in DC. Gambit wouldn’t come close to that in Marvel. I give it to Dick

I agree on both counts :) Dick would wipe the floor with that loser. Unfortunately he doesn’t kill”¦

4- Speaking of Gambit, is he the son of Mr. Sinister? I noticed the red pupil similarity.

Actually if you go by X-Men the End he’s Sinister’s clone. That’s right Clone. So he’s related to Sinister just not his son

5- Where the hell is Thor???

Thor is well……… Let’s explain it this way:

He decided to “sleep the sleep of the gods. For awhile, at least…” He likely will be back at some point during Civil War. I suspect it.

For all intents and purposes he’s dead at the moment”¦

6- If ever given the opportunity of a solo or Avengers movie, wouldn’t Triple H be perfect as the role of the Asgardian? (muscles, blondish hair, good fan base, & the skill of using a sledgehammer/Mjolnir?)

Triple H as Thor? Hmmmmmmm Well I could see it. I mean hair wise and muscle wise he fits. So that would work. But I hope he can pull off the accent.

I always pictured Thor as a good looking man (not runway model or anything), which is something the big H just isn’t”¦so in that regard I’d say no, but hell look what they did to Angel in the upcoming X3. Who is that ugly mug playing him?

7- I heard that Omega Red was going to be part of the Brotherhood in X-3, are these rumors true and if so will he be the albino, Russian with the ponytail and tendrils?

Yes Omega Red is going to be in the Brotherhood in X-3. That’s one of the rumors that came out and has been as close to as confirmed as it can be. Vince Murdocco has been picked for the role. We have yet to see any pictures of him in costume but I’ll bet that he won’t exactly be like Red in comics.

Thanks guys, same time next week!

Welcome

Another thing that has to be updated is the X-Men the End series. Again we’ll do a bio series but this time I’ll update a little with each character. BUT not this week. This is yet another long article. So I’ll catch up with the X-Men the End series as soon as I can.

I don’t want to offend you so I’ll say that it was all good.

Cool I’ll sign off first and leave you the last word.
