Lost – Recap – Episode 2-11

Archive

Previously, on Lost: The Others take Walt, but Walt seems to be establishing communication with Michael through the hatch’s computer; Sawyer confesses his love to Kate as he drifts in and out of consciousness, and a confused Kate plants a wet one on Dr. Jack in the middle of the jungle before running away.

The Doctors Shepherd discuss an x-ray before turning to the patient and announcing that surgery is not possible on the spinal tumor. But the Spanish-speaking man didn’t come all this way for Jack’s daddy, he came for Jack, a man who has performed a miracle before. Jack warns them that it would have to be another miracle, but agrees to it eventually, and then gives a somber look to his father, who walks out with a sense of dejection.

In the hatch, a loud noise wakes Jack from his sleep, and he goes towards the computer but is detoured, seeing Locke out on the ground. Michael comes up from behind Jack with a gun, and he’s batshit insane. Jack wants Michael to calm down and have Jack join him, but Michael wants him to stay in the room with Locke; he’s gotta find Walt, and he’s gotta find him alone.

I fear that Michael may soon be…LOST.

Back inside the room, Locke wakes up from unconsciousness as Jack informs him of what just happened. Locke is okay, so Jack wants to go out through the airvent, but Locke bolted it shut to keep someone from going through it when he changed the combination. Jack doesn’t understand why Michael let him in anyway, but Locke just says he wanted a gun. Locke then remembers that he has a button to press, but Locke and Jack are the only ones down there, so the only hope is that Sawyer gets his bandage changed down in the hatch.

Sawyer is sleeping on the beach, but Kate wakes him up with a banana. Kate wants to get Sawyer to come along with him to the hatch to get his bandage changed, and there’s plenty of tension between the two. Sexual tension, that is. They get down to the hatch and Sawyer lets Locke and Jack out, as Kate pushes the button. Jack wants to team up with Locke and go after Michael, but Sawyer wants to join him too.

Flashback: Jack is looking over his patient before the surgery, telling the patient’s daughter(?) that the counts aren’t where he’d like them to be. She confesses that she doesn’t believe in miracles, and he’s not sure about them. She mentions Jack’s wife, and the fact that he’s been there until 4:30 in the morning. Before Jack leaves, she thanks him. Jack arrives home to find his wife, asleep, but opens her eyes as soon as Jack walks through the door. Jack tells her wife about the patient, and then apologizes for coming in late. She understands that that’s the price of being a miracle worker, and then gets up to go to the gym and then grade some papers. Jack lies down in bed, and Sara announces that she was late and got a pregnancy test…but it came back negative. Shazam. Jack wonders if Sara wants to talk about it, but Sara doesn’t see anything to talk about.

In the jungle, Locke catches onto Michael’s trail, and Kate wants to come along but she has to be the one who presses the button. So the Three Musketeers go off wandering as Sawyer asks what she did to Jack to make him angry at her, and then Jack mentions Sawyer’s near-unconscious confession of love, but Locke interrupts them to ask Sawyer which side the ocean was on on the way back–turns out Sawyer came from the East and Michael is going North.

Back at the beach, Sun asks Hurley what’s going on, and Hurley mentions that he’s taking over Kate’s shift at the hatch so Kate can help track down Michael, “going commando”. Jin’s ears perk at the mention of “Walt”, and it looks like Jin’s going too. Sun doesn’t want him to leave, doesn’t want to go through wondering if Jin is alive or dead again. Jin is Michael’s friend, but Sun’s wife. So he’s not going. Bet he sneaks out later.

Sawyer asks Jack to slow down as they climb up the hill, and Locke concurs that they should take a break. During the break, Locke wonders what Jack’s going to do when they find Michael, and Jack claims that he’s going to convince Michael to come back, but Locke wonders who they are to tell people what to do, as Michael seems to be past the reasoning stage.

Flashback: The patient’s wife/daughter(?) is prepared to sign a contract as Jack warns that they can go back on this and he can live comfortably for a year, but Jack hasn’t changed his mind about doing the operation. She tells Jack that even if it isn’t successful, he’s giving them a chance. Here comes Dr. Daddy, as she takes her leave. Daddy hands over some papers to sign, and then warns Jack to be careful of crossing the line. Jack tells his father that he should know about crossing the line, but his father retorts that it’s not okay for him to cross the line.

The crew climb up a steep hill using a thick vine, as Sawyer questions why Michael wouldn’t just go around, but Locke changes the subject to Sawyer’s name, as he’s known all along that it’s been James Ford. Locke wonders where the name come from, but Sawyer is defensive about it. Gunshots interrupt them, and they all duck down as the gunshots continue, staggered. Jack gives chase, and the rest chase after Jack. They arrive at the sight of the gunfire, finding three shells. There were seven shots though. Locke tries to pick up a trail, knowing that Michael is close. Jack questions Sawyer’s motive, but everyone has their reasons.

Flashback: The old man died of heart failure in surgery after 7 1/2 hours, but Dr. Daddy already told the patient’s wife and wants Jack to just go home. But Jack is really beating himself up about this. He goes to his car to find Gabriella in the parking lot, crying, but thanking Jack for trying. She cries in his arms, and it turns into a huge kiss, which Jack doesn’t really stop. He finally cuts it off, though. Current wife looks better anyway.

Locke seems to have lost the trail, which upsets Jack even more when Locke suggests that they just go back. Jack makes sure that Locke knows that there’s no way they’ll see him again if they stop now, and a man over in the woods agrees, but also agrees with Mr. Locke. With three guns pointed at the man, he doesn’t budge, but you can see his eyes through the darkness. Jack asks who he is. “He’s the son of a bitch who shot me on the raft.” Sawyer doesn’t put his gun down and gets shot with a dart(?). The man wants to sit down and build a fire to have a chat.

Charlie and Hurley discuss Claire and Libby, respectively, but Sayid arrives to call the music depressing and then is informed of the manhunt for Michael.

At the “meeting,” the Others’ man asks if Jack disrepects a man’s house when he goes there for the first time, a perfect analogy. “Since the dawn of our species, man has been blessed with curiousity.” The other one about curiousity? “This is not your island, this is our island. And the only reason that you’re living on it, is because we’re letting you live on it.” Jack thinks that he’s bluffing, but he’s definitely not. There’s plenty of Others surrounding them, and Alex brings out Kate, challenging him to cross the line. The Other tells him to just walk away and go home, and gives Jack the count of three. And Jack gives in. Oh MAN. Everyone else turns in their guns, but Sawyer warns that they’re not done. The torches go out, Kate is returned to the crew. She apologizes for following, but Locke is more interested in looking at the Other walk off.

On the beach, Jin looks out as Sun joins him, both unable to sleep. They’re not back yet, and Jin tells Sun that he doesn’t like being told what to do, but that was Sun’s life for four years, and she didn’t like it much either. Jin can see how that’d be likely.

Kate tries to explain herself, but Jack’s not listening. Kate wants Jack to talk to her, and apologizes again, so Jack apologizes too. And then walks away.

Flashback: Jack arrives to find his wife in the dining room, cleaning up. Jack informs her that he died, but that he isn’t hungry. Jack tries to continue with life, but she asks about the man’s daughter–and things go to hell. She’s leaving him, because SHE’S been seeing someone. Well, no need for Jack to be guilty. “You will always need something to fix. Goodbye.” Jack is broken up about this…

…and we return to the beach as the crew is returning as well, but without Michael. “See ya, James.” Sawyer tells Kate not to beat herself up, since he would’ve done the same thing, as Locke goes over to play with Claire’s baby, Charlie looking on from a distance, upset. Ana-Lucia throws a piece of fruit to distract the dog–and Jack joins her as they talk about Michael. Jack wonders if it’s true that Ana-L killed one of the Others…Sayid told him that she was a cop. “How long do you think it would take to train an army?”
