The O.C. – Recap – Episode 3-12

Okay..so this is the one where Kaitlin Cooper is supposed to return. She is supposed to be the new “bad girl”. She’s like 14 or something..so I don’t know how well that will work. But if you know any early teen girls..you know they cause trouble and act MUCH older than their age. It could be fun to watch. I don’t know about her and Johnny, but whatever..it could interesting.

Anything else? Nope..doesn’t seem like it. So lets see what all the fuss is about?! Here we go!

The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 12) – “The Sister Act”

We open up with Ryan and Seth talking at home. Seth is searching for pimples on his face. There has to be something wrong. Things are going too good around here. Marissa is back at school, the Johnny/Marissa/Ryan love triangle seems resolved, and Summer got a near-perfect score on her SAT. Too happy around here says Seth and I agree. The doorbell rings.

Seth: “Don’t answer that..it’s probably a flaming bag of crap!”

Ryan DOES answer the door and he finds a little girl standing there. It’s Kaitlin. But Ryan has no idea who she is. She knows his name, though. And here comes Seth and he knows who that is. It’s Kaitlin Cooper! And she’s grown..yes..boobs, but she has grown up. Sorry..that whole exchange was too funny for words. Let the trouble begin!

“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”

Now the whole gang is here to see Kaitlin. Summer calls her mini-Cooper, which I am sure we will hear a lot. Everyone wonders why she is home in the middle of the semester. And apparently..they are waiting to tell her the news, that the Coopers are poor now, until Julie arrives. Julie and Marissa arrive shortly afterwards. Julie doesn’t know how she will explain things to her. You know shootings, funerals, poorness, etc. Marissa tells her to just tell Kaitlin. Ah..but Marissa is more like Jimmy and Kaitlin is more like Julie. Thus..Kaitlin will throw a fit like a little girl, which she is!

Here is little Katie now. Hugs from Julie. Hugs from Marissa. Julie asks what she is doing here? It’s “mid-winter” break..silly. Check the calendar Julie! Last year, Kaitlin went to Paris. This year she comes home. And she doesn’t even know that Caleb is dead. Good god! That is the cue for Summer, Ryan, and Seth to go to school. Sandy and Kirsten head for the hills too! Marissa follows..leaving just Julie and Kaitlin.

They drive to their “home”. And Kaitlin can’t believe it’s a trailer. Julie tries to sugar-coat things. It’s a half of a mile from the beach and it’s Tiffany blue says Julie. Julie says Britney Spears came from a place like this. Kaitlin says it okay. Julie wants to catch up with her. Kaitlin’s phone rings and Julie thinks it’s a boy. It is as Kaitlin checks her voicemail and gets a strange message. Apparently..Kaitlin skipped town and this “boy” is not happy about it. Whatever that means.

At school, Ryan and Marissa talk. Marissa says that her and Kaitlin have never been close. Ryan says she can fix that now. Enter Seth and Summer.

Seth: “You talking about Kaitlin’s transformation from horsey tweener to jailbait!”

Summer: “Cohen..one more pervie word about Coop’s not so mini-Coop and I may have to staple your tongue to your collar!”

Enter Taylor who is all smiles and clapping and gives Marissa a hug. She is happy to see her back at school. Marissa says thanks and Taylor says it was no problem. She had no friends there. Marissa said she did. But Taylor says not like the ones she has here. Marissa and Ryan leave.

Taylor: “The poor thing! It must be really hard for her readjusting..kinda like coming back from Vietnam!”

Ryan goes and sees if Marissa is alright. Marissa says Taylor reminded her that she hasn’t talked to Johnny since she came back. Poor Johnny. Ryan tells her to call Chili since Johnny won’t return her calls.

Chili and Johnny walk around at their school. Chili tells him to call Marissa back. Johnny thought his life would be simpler without Marissa. But Johnny is miserable. Chili’s phone rings and it’s Marissa. He gives it to Johnny. Johnny says he has been really busy with stuff and couldn’t call her back. Marissa still thinks Johnny is going on tour to surf. She wants him to meet her little sister. Finally, Marissa convinces Johnny to meet them later at the diner.

Taylor’s mom, Veronica, appears at the Cohen home. She heard about the business Julie and Kirsten were starting. She wants them to set her up with Summer’s dad. Could be a problem there?! Kirsten doesn’t think he would go out with her since she tried to keep Summer’s best friend out of school. Veronica says that if she could talk with him over dinner..she could convince him that she is not as bad as he thinks. Why should Kirsten do that? Veronica says that Marissa’s involvement in after-school affairs like dances and prom has yet to be determined. Black-mail for a date! Whatever works..I suppose.

Kirsten comes to visit Sandy at his office. She tells him about the threats that Veronica made. Sandy says that they can’t give in to them. Kirsten says all he had to do was take her out on a date. What does this have to do with Sandy? He can persuade anyone and he is a friend of Dr. Roberts. She wants Sandy to persuade Dr. Roberts to go out on a date with Veronica.

Marissa and Kaitlin go shopping before going to meet Johnny. Marissa says that Julie was just trying to protect Kaitlin and Marissa was doing..whatever she was doing. Here comes Chili and Johnny.

Kaitlin: “Which one’s Johnny? Perfect bone structure or Carrot Top?!”

Marissa introduces Johnny and Chili to Kaitlin and we get our first awkward silence. They head inside and there is confusion over when Johnny leaves. Johnny quickly changes the subject and decides to head back to his car. Marissa knows something is up and Chili tells her the truth. Kaitlin goes to the..uh..bathroom. She really is going after Johnny and asks him how long he has been in love with Marissa? He says they are just friends. Marissa is not available, but Kaitlin says she is with a smile. Johnny smiles that dumb smile of his as he wonders what jail looks like.

Meanwhile, a boy comes looking for Kaitlin at the Cohen house. Ryan meets him. He asks where she is. Ryan says he hasn’t seen her since she was eleven and rode a pony. The boy says it’s important that he find her. Ryan’s look on his face is classic. He knows the trouble is coming!

The next day comes and Ryan goes to talk to Kaitlin. Ryan says a guy came looking for her. His name is Justin. Kaitlin says he is a stalker or something. She barely knows the guy. They met at a party. She got him in a lot of trouble and it could affect his college chances. She doesn’t want Ryan to tell Marissa about it. Ryan says he will take care of it. Kaitlin doesn’t want Marissa to worry about her.

Marissa goes to talk with Johnny. Johnny knows that Chili told Marissa everything. Marissa says thanks. Marissa asks what he is doing next. He doesn’t know. She still wants to help him. Johnny says it’s not her problem anymore. Marissa says that he did this incredible thing for her. But Johnny says he needed her to leave. He doesn’t really want to see her again. He needs Marissa out of his life right now.

Sandy gives Dr. Roberts a call and explains the situation. Sandy says that he has to go on a date with her or she will make Marissa’s life miserable. Sandy knows she can do it too. It will be horrible, but Sandy will pick up the bill for them and owe him one. Dr. Roberts just shakes his head. He agrees to go.

Ryan meets up with Justin. He tells him to leave Kaitlin alone. Justin says he is not leaving until he gets back the $1,500 that Kaitlin stole from his brother. Ryan says that Kaitlin said that she barely knew Justin. Justin said that they have been going out for a month now. He wanted her to meet his brother and they were at a frat party. Kaitlin took the money from his brother and left town. Ryan informs Justin that she is 14. Justin thought she was 16. Jailbait! Justin says he has been trying to help her, but it’s not his money and out of his hands now.

Summer and Seth are talking now. Summer says that Taylor has called 3 times and left messages. Seth says she has “abused puppy syndrome”. If you show her a little affection..she will follow you around for the rest of your life. Summer says that Taylor is their responsibility now. Enter a screaming Taylor! Goodness! Summer asks how she got in here and she says she has a way with the housekeepers of America. She informs them that her mom and Summer’s dad are going on a date. Seth is horrified. Taylor is ecstatic! They could be sisters! And she goes to check on which room she wants.

Summer: “She is SO going back to the pound!”

Dr. Roberts and Veronica are on their date. They appear to be having a good time. Julie and Kaitlin enter the same restaurant. Julie sees the two of them on a date and decides to leave. That will be some trouble there!

Marissa is upset. She can’t find her stupid jacket. Ryan is there and Marissa tells him that she got in a fight with Johnny. Ryan knew the whole time about the surfing. Marissa says Johnny lied to get rid of her. Ryan says he is in an awkward position. Give him some time. Marissa finds her jacket. All seems good between them. Oh..look..there is a bag. One that looks like it came from a frat. Ryan looks inside for the money, but there is nothing. But still..there’s the bag!

The next morning, Ryan tells Seth in the kitchen that Kaitlin is up to something. He tells Seth that Kaitlin stole some money from a frat party and Ryan found the bag that Justin described. Seth says that she is Jimmy Cooper’s daughter. Stealing is in her blood. That was just wrong! Enter Marissa and Kaitlin. Seth says that he needs to borrow Marissa for a second. They need to plan Summer’s birthday, which is 8 months away! HA! That leaves Ryan and Kaitlin alone. Ryan tells her about the bag. Kaitlin says she took the money, but it was for her friend. She needed an abortion and Justin’s friend, the father, wouldn’t pay for it. So she took care of it. It was for a good cause says Kaitlin. Ryan tells her to take care of it. It’s still a problem.

Summer comes downstairs to talk with her father. She yells at him for dating Veronica. Dr. Roberts says she is misunderstood. Summer says she is an EVIL bitch! He wants Summer to be polite to Veronica as he is taking her to the launch party at the Cohen’s house. HA!

Johnny comes knocking at the Cooper trailer. He is here for Marissa, but finds Kaitlin instead. He wants to apologize to her. She is not here, but Kaitlin informs Johnny of the launch party. Kaitlin wants him to come. Johnny says he will come to apologize to Marissa.

Ryan and Marissa walk on the pier and Marissa knows something is up. Ryan tells her it’s Kaitlin. He explains the whole story to Marissa. Ryan says it doesn’t make any sense if it’s true. Marissa thinks that Ryan thinks Kaitlin is lying. Ryan doesn’t know. He wants Marissa to ask Kaitlin. She will do it after the party.

Kirsten and Julie get things ready for their business’ launch party. Kirsten adds Dr. Roberts and Veronica to the guest list. And Julie is upset that no one told her that they were dating. Julie then tells Kirsten that she has feelings for Dr. Roberts as well. Julie is ready to embrace this next “hurricane”, though. She will be okay or so she says now.

Summer and Seth chat in Seth’s room. They are trying to find ways to split up Dr. Roberts and Veronica. This includes genital warts somehow. Sandy comes in and says it was just a 1-date thing. Summer says he is bringing her to the party. Sandy can’t believe it. Kirsten comes in and explains to them why she set them up in the first place. Sandy says they have to make sure that Veronica wins this since it could affect Marissa.

Seth: “Genital warts is the answer!”

Sandy tells Kirsten to set up her dinner. Summer and Seth can keep working on the plan. They can figure something out.

Ding dong! Here comes the hurricane! It’s Justin with friends including his brother who wants the money. Ryan and Marissa guard the door as Kaitlin comes wandering into the scene. She quickly runs to the pool house. Ryan tells Marissa to go talk to Kaitlin. Ryan holds off the guys. Marissa goes to talk to Kaitlin, but she is not in the pool house. Uh..oh!

Marissa knows where she is, though. Kaitlin is back at the trailer and packing her things. She is running away. Marissa and Ryan arrive to stop her. Kaitlin blames Ryan for telling Marissa. Ryan tells them to just talk. Kaitlin wonders why Marissa cares about her now. She didn’t care about her for the past two years as she spent the last two Christmas holidays with complete strangers. Marissa doesn’t want Kaitlin to lie. Kaitlin says that Julie and Marissa have been lying to her all this time. Kaitlin knew that Julie lived in a trailer. Her whole school did as one of her friends’ parents owns the trailer park. So the REAL reason she stole the money was to come back home and see if Julie and Marissa were okay. They hug and Kaitlin pulls out the money. She gives it to Ryan. Awww!

Now it’s party time! Summer apparently told Seth something bad about her father. Julie and Kirsten come to make a speech. Julie says life is about finding your soul mate or something like that. Time to flirt says Kirsten! Fantastic! Sandy says he would sign up if he didn’t have the perfect woman already. He tells Kirsten that “the plan is in motion.”

Enter Taylor, who looks like a $1,000,000,000! WOW! She tells Seth not to make a pass at her. She doesn’t want him to come between sisters. HA! Seth asks Taylor about how serious her mom is about Dr. Roberts. Taylor says she ALWAYS gets what she wants. Seth tells Taylor something about Dr. Roberts. But we don’t know what it is yet as he whispers it into her ear! Come on!

Ryan goes to meet Justin and give him the money. Ryan picks up on the fact that this may have to do with something more than just the money. Ryan says Justin is in love with Kaitlin. Justin says Kaitlin is “amazing.” He leaves and Ryan knows something is up with that.

Back at the party, Taylor wants to talk to her mom. Summer and Seth watch on. Taylor relays the information Seth gave to her to her mom. Taylor’s mom looks upset as she grabs Taylor and walks off. The plan worked! Summer and Seth smile and wave to Taylor.

Summer: “My god..that is amazing. And all you did was tell her that he voted for John Kerry!”

Seth: “YYYes..that is exactly what I said!”

Summer: “You told her that he had genital warts?! Come on!”

Seth: “That Kerry thing would have never worked!”

Sandy finds Dr. Roberts and wonders why he is alone. Sandy is glad he is, though. He just dodged a bullet and Dr. Roberts agrees. He was blinded. Sandy says that there is someone else, named Julie, who would like his company.

Johnny arrives at the party and bumps into Kaitlin. She flirts with him. He is going to find Marissa, though.

Dr. Roberts comes and talks to Julie.

Johnny finds Marissa at the party. Her back is turned and she thinks it’s Ryan. Johnny says he came to apologize. He missed her. She missed him too. They both have their own lives now, but Marissa doesn’t want him to become a stranger. Apology accepted. Except for the fact that Johnny STILL has no life now. Marissa wants to find her sister and Johnny says she is outside. Marissa suggests that Johnny take Kaitlin home. Great!

Summer hit Seth and is now patching him up in the kitchen. Taylor comes back and says she still wants to be Summer’s “sister”. Summer says sure. Taylor is happy. Summer threatens to hit Seth again.

Ryan and Marissa talk. He says that Justin was in love with Kaitlin. Marissa is shocked because she is 14 and he is their age. Of course..she lied about her age. Ryan says that he knows how it feels to “fall for a Cooper girl!” Don’t make me sick! Marissa thinks Kaitlin is at home by now.

Of course, she is driving with Johnny still. She says the place has not changed. Johnny asks if she has? Yeah..she has. Oh..Kaitlin is ready to swim. She tells Johnny to pull over. There goes her clothes. Johnny yells at her to stop. But that doesn’t work!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
