The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

TV has returned! Many shows have debuted and most shows have returned from the “holiday break!” Everything seems to be back in motion. Oh yeah..’American Idol’ and ’24’ have returned! Big ratings for FOX! Things will change in a few weeks as the Winter Olympics arrive! But we will deal with that when we get there.

Um..nothing else I can think of to say at the moment. So I will let you get reading. I bring to you..the week that was on Pulse TV!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“There is Relationship George, and there is Independent George…you are killing Independent George! A George divided against itself… cannot stand”George

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Back in Business

Mathan Erhardt is back and tells you what new shows he will watch in 2006. What did he watch this week? Glad you asked. He watched ‘Lost’, ‘The Office’, ‘Scrubs’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘My Name Is Earl’, ‘Arrested Development’, and ‘The Shield’! Check it out!

Sarah Quigley is a moth. Think about that for a second, but go ahead and read which show she is attracted to the most. Okay..I will tell you. It’s ‘Beauty and the Geek 2’. But find out who she thinks are the favorites to win this time around!

Matt Basilo doesn’t have much time this week, but he finds time to talk about ‘Lost’, ’24’, and ‘The O.C.’! Good enough until next week!

Farah Syed talks about TV shows on DVD. Is this a good thing or a bad thing according to her? They are here to stay. Find out what Farah has to say about them, though!

Kevin Wong gives his thoughts on the first four “hours” of ’24’. Not much else except what he watched and some ultimate fighting!

Recaps a.k.a. Did I Tell You..TV is Back

Trevor MacKay has double the ‘Invasion’ for you this week. He recaps the eleventh and twelfth episodes of the show!

John Duran is back and he does triple duty this week! He gets lost twice this week! Someone help him! Check out his recaps of episode #10 and episode #11 of ‘Lost’! Then, he returns for some new ‘Desperate Housewives’ as well!

I do the usual double dose of the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II’ and ‘The O.C.’!

Craig Russell has episode #12 of the ‘Gilmore Girls’!

This week we had 5 DVD reviews! WOW! TV is back, but they still found time to watch DVDs!

Romo does two DVD reviews for you! First..he takes a look at Enterprise – Season Four! He follows that up with a review of Law & Order – The Third Year!

Tom Pandich has the second season of The Adventures of Pete and Pete!

Kevin Wong has Season 2.0 of Battlestar Galactica!

Scott Keith has the second season of Roseanne! Bigger, better, and more complete!

No Katie This Week = No Celebrities!!

Katie took this week off. I am sure she will get us caught up soon, but she missed my deadline for this week. No one else is doing anything in this category..so that means you have nothing! Better luck next week!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…”Will TV stars always be considered as the original characters they played on earlier, popular shows or can they change shows and characters without a second thought to it?” So here are the results:

YES..Always! – 0
NO..Never! – 0
MAYBE..It depends on the characters! – 5
MAYBE..It depends on the popularity of the show! – 1

Not that many votes this time. But everyone agrees that it is possible that TV stars can move on from a popular show they were in to a new show. It seems that is all depends on the types of characters they played. Still..some actors get “typecast” as certain characters. That’s just something they will have to deal with.

Now onto this week’s question. It has to do with what I will be talking about later, which is a repeat of a few months back. The question is..“do you watch FOX more now since the return of ’24’ and ‘American Idol’?” . Pretty simple question. These two shows have returned for FOX. Do you watch that channel more now than you did two months ago? Click on the link and VOTE NOW! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. New Year and New Shows = New Favorite Network?

Okay..I did this two months ago. I am already copying myself, but I couldn’t think of anything else to write. But things have changed. It’s the start of 2006 and I noticed that my viewing schedule has changed since two months ago. What am I talking about? I am talking about what is my favorite network? I did this column two months ago and wanted to see what network other people watched the most? I got some feedback from a few of you. Thanks for that. But things might have changed since then. Let me break down my viewing schedule now:

Sunday – ABC (‘Desperate Housewives’/’Grey’s Anatomy’)

Monday – CBS/MTV (‘How I Met Your Mother’/’The Gauntlet II’)

Tuesday – FOX/CBS (‘American Idol’/’Love Monkey’)

Wednesday – FOX/WB/ABC (‘American Idol’/’Beauty and the Geek 2’/’Lost’)

Thursday – UPN/NBC/FOX (‘Everybody Hates Chris’/’Four Kings’/’The O.C.’/’E.R.’)

Friday – Cable!

Saturday – Cable!

Anything change? Sunday night is the exact same. Monday is still CBS with MTV thrown into the mix. On Tuesday, my NBC shows have moved..so it is gone and FOX takes it place with a tie with CBS. The shows on CBS have changed, though. Wednesday is more cluttered with FOX and WB joining ABC. And Thursday is the same except two new shows are added as the timeslot change of ‘The O.C.’ makes room for them. Friday and Saturday still SUCKS, but I hardly watch TV on those days anymore as my “social schedule” has improved over the past month!

Add this all up and we have 3 for FOX, 2 for ABC, 2 for CBS, 1 for NBC, 1 for WB, 1 for UPN, and 1 for MTV! So we have a new winner! FOX wins! They beat ABC! However, some will say that FOX only won since ‘American Idol’ is on two days of the week. So really..I watch 3 ABC shows, 2 FOX shows, 2 NBC shows, 2 CBS shows, 1 WB show, 1 UPN show, and 1 MTV show. So some would say that ABC is still my network of choice. But think of this..the only reason I still watch ‘Lost’ right now is because my local station has pushed back the timeslot for that show until LATE so it can show college basketball. If it were on its regular timeslot, it would interfere with either ‘American Idol’ or ‘Beauty and the Geek 2’. Would I watch it over those shows? Maybe. But I would rather watch ‘American Idol’ than ‘Lost’ right now. Why? Because I am nuts! Therefore, without ‘Lost’..there would be a tie with ABC and FOX again. That mean FOX wins again. And really..to be consistent..I go by days of the week won by the network like I did the first time. Therefore, FOX wins this time around thanks to ‘American Idol’.

I am sure you are confused now, but with the power of ’24’ (which sometimes I will watch, but not ALL the time) and ‘American Idol’..FOX is back in business! Look for them to close the gap between the other networks. Of course, the Olympics will screw everything up as I said! Oh well..FOX is riding high right now! Feel free to tell me if your viewing habits have changed since the start of 2006.

Well that does it for me again this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome.

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
