Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 8)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a bone! Those were the veterans and now the rookies are already on the beach and they fight it out…

We open up to Cara and Susie playing ping pong. Outside..Jillian and Kina talk about Cara and Susie. Jillian tells Kina that Cara and Susie came up to her and asked her to join an alliance with them. The alliance was with the “veterans”. Brad, Timmy, and David wanted Cara and Susie to throw the “guy” challenges in favor of the “veterans” winning, and the guys would throw the “girl” challenges in the favor of the “rookies” winning. So all 6 would be safe from getting eliminated from the game. Kina tells us all of this and she feels the need to tell Alton, since his butt is on the line.

The teams get a clue. “You think you’re strong..huh?” Syrus says his butt is on the line as he feels he could be the next one voted into the gauntlet.

Kina now tells Alton, Randy, Ibis, and Jodi what Jillian told her and they all need to watch Susie and Cara. Alton can’t believe that anyone would consider an alliance. He has been trying to play this game fairly and doing his best to win each challenge. Kina says this could mess up their team and they can’t let that happen.

Commercial time!

It’s challenge time and it’s called “Team Strength”. Each team has a big boulder, a truck, and a stack of cinderblocks. Each team gets two pushers, one male and one female, and one driver. They have to move the boulder from one end of the field to the other end. Then, do the same with the truck and fill it with cinderblocks. Finally, they have to push the truck back. Kina says they can’t trust Susie or Cara, which hurts their team from the start. It’s a “Men’s Gauntlet Day” and the winning male captain gets $1,000 from Energizer.

Team strategy discussion. Ace can drive a standard..so he feels he is the best one to be the driver. Alton says that Cara and Susie are given little responsibility in this challenge. Cara says she needs to prove herself, however, and wants to do good in this challenge.

The challenge starts and everyone rolls their big boulders across the field. One problem..the “veterans” roll their boulder so hard that it snaps and falls apart..like really..it falls apart. Hey..that’s no rock! The “rookies” get to the other side first, of course. But the “veterans” pick up the pieces of their boulder and carry it to the end.

The truck pushing begins and Randy and Ibis are the pushers for the “rookies”, while Jeremy is the driver. They are not in the lead by much, but they take off. Beth and David are pushing the truck for the “veterans”, while Ace drives. Timmy says they can easily catch up here. And they seem to be doing it as Beth and David are pushing hard. Mark says that Beth is doing a great job. She is now one of the better girls on their team. Randy says his legs are “burning” and the “veterans” are closing the gap. The “rookies” still finish ahead, but not by much.

Now everyone works to fill the truck with cinderblocks. Robin says the “veterans” are working together to fill this truck. No problems there. Kina says the “rookies” have two disadvantages now. The “veterans” have one more man than they do, and Cara and Susie are there to “throw” the mission. The “veterans” finish this part ahead of the “rookies”.

Mark and Julie will be pushing the truck back for the “veterans”. Both teams seem to start the truck back at the same time and they both have troubles reversing the truck. So they have to “rock” the truck until is moves backwards. MJ and Jodi are pushing the truck back for the “rookies”. Jeremy says nothing is happening for the “rookies”. He hopes the “veterans” are having the same problem. TJ says that when he blows his horn..both teams can have two extra people help to push the truck back. Landon says he will jump down to help. Susie and Cara want to help, but Landon and the others say no! Susie can’t understand why.

The horn blows and Alton and Kina jump down to help the “rookies” push the truck. Robin and Syrus help the “veterans” push the truck. That seems to help as the “rookies” take off now and are rolling along, while the “veterans” are still having some problems. Syrus says something is wrong with their truck. Everyone keeps yelling at Ace to see if the truck is in neutral. Now the “veterans” are getting pissed. The “rookies” continue to roll along and they finish first and win this challenge!

Robin says something had to be wrong with the truck. Syrus tells Ace to hold down the clutch and the truck rolls easier now. So Ace screwed up. Julie and Beth are pissed! Syrus said he should have been the driver. Ace says he is going to the gauntlet now, since he screwed up. He seems happy about it, though. Derrick has to face someone now. Brad is disappointed that they lost this challenge. Landon is glad that they won and happy that they stopped Cara and Susie, if they have an alliance. Cara and Susie wonder if the team thinks they suck or have an alliance or something. Cara says they can’t celebrate, because they couldn’t do anything in this challenge!

Commercial time!

We come back to see who the “veterans” put in the gauntlet. Of course, Ace stands up and says it was all his fault. So he will vote himself into the gauntlet. Everyone claps with that decision. Ace decided to step up and do his best. The wheel is spun by TJ and again it lands on <"Captain's Choice"! The wheel is rigged! Derrick decides on “Beach Brawl”, because he likes to fight! Julie says Derrick made the wrong choice as Ace is bigger than Derrick!

Gauntlet time! The goal is knock the other person out of the circle. They are greased up and it’s best of 5. Derrick starts off by pushing Ace out and wins the first one. Ace says Derrick is lower to the ground and is like a pitbull in there.

The second round starts and Ace grabs hold of Derrick and flips him out of the ring. So it’s 1-1 now.

The third round begins and it’s a close one, but Derrick barely pushes Ace. So it’s 2-1 for Derrick.

The fourth round sees both men on the sand. Ace tries to hang on and flip Derrick out, but Derrick pushes Ace out before Derrick can hit the sand. So Derrick wins the gauntlet! Ace is going home! Ace says that losing sucks, but Derrick is a great team captain. He is not going for a long time.

Time to party for Ace. Ace talks about the friendships that this game creates. Forget the money and remember the friends and good times they had. Isn’t that just nice?! David says Ace is the “social chair” of the house. He will miss him, but Derrick is better for the team and winning!

Now Cara and Susie have some things to say to the “rookies”. Cara says she was ready to push this truck or do something. She could have proven herself today. Alton thought they wanted to talk about the “alliance” they might have had with the “veterans”. Landon speaks up and asks them about it. He asks them if they have an alliance and Cara says “hell no”! She is not stupid. Kina doesn’t believe them. Jillian thinks they are playing it off now, but if she had joined them..it might have been a different story. Kina says the rest of the team is aware of the fact that they could do something. Susie can’t believe it and seems hurt by all of this. Cara doesn’t know how they got the information about the alliance, but it’s not true. And Cara does a little screaming to try and prove her point. Kina doesn’t believe anything they say, though!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
