The Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer says that WWE has been hoping that Bret Hart would change his mind and agree to return in time for Mania (although they wanted him for Homecoming and Survivor Series, and Hart declined both), with ideas being Hart punching out Vince and/or Michaels; Hart refereeing a match between Vince and Michaels; or Hart working a fast match with Vince which would be a punch, a sharpshooter, and a tap-out. Many inside the company feel that Hart would change his mind if enough money and the right scenario were offered, with some even feeling Hart told Vince he would do it and is now pulling out. Bret is currently in Italy and maintains that he doesn’t want to come back.
In other Mania news, the idea of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat at Mania has been discussed and nixed.
