The Scorecard

Hey fight fans, Rokk here to bring you up to date on Boxing news. Thanks for checking out last weeks article that chronicled the mega rematch Pacquiao vs. Morales. For those of you that didn’t catch the fight HBO will re-air the fight before this weeks fight, so set your TiVo or DVR.

Which brings us to this weekend’s action, which should be a thriller as well. The ultimate blood and guts warrior, Arturo “Thunder” Gatti will be moving up to Welterweight to challenge undefeated Thomas “Lionheart” Daamgard for the vacant IBA Welterweight Championship.

Daamgard though undefeated, has never fought outside of his home counrty of Denmark, and with this fight taking place in Gatti’s living room, Boardwark Hall in Atlantice City, New Jersey may have an effect on his performance. Few American fight fans have seen Daamgard in action, but I have aquired a few fights on video and I can say that this Saturday nights action will be one to remember. Daamgard much like Gatti is a straight forward brawler at 37-0 with 27 KOs has the pop that can change a fight.

Gatti 39-7 with 30 KOs had a five fight win streak halted this past July by pound for pound kingpin Floyd Mayweather Jr. by a 6th round TKO when Buddy Mcgirt threw in the towel for Gatti. Arturo is well known to most casual fight fans for his incredible determination and more heart than most fighters could ever dream of having. Participating in an unbelievable four Fights of the Year, which only two other fighters have more than four on their record.

This fight should determine if either one of the fighters career goes on, both fighters in their mid 30s, both sacraficing their bodies in many wars. For Gatti many will say that he has been through too much abuse if he suffers another loss, especially if it is a brutal one. If Daamgard loses many critics will say he was just a phenomenon in his home counrty and nothing more.

Rokk’s Prediction: Arturo “Thunder” Gatti by 7th Round KO.

(This fight can really go either way, just too hard to bet against Gatti!)

Once again one of the most interesting fighters will be fighting on a non-televised card again this weekend. Mexico’s Jorge Arce WBC Interim Flyweight Title holder 42-3-1 with 32 KOs will be facing Nicaraguan Adonis Rivas 21-8-2. Arce with his last five bouts ending with him knocking his opponents out, has explosive power and a personality to match. One time actually a house mate on Mexico’s version of Big Brother. Arce has also won his last 21 fights with his last loss comming by the hands of an aging Michael Carbajal in an unbelievable fight, that took place in 1999.

News and Notes

After Zab Judah’s shocking loss to Carlos Baldomir, losing his Undisputed Welterweight crown, everyone expected Floyd Mayweather to pass him up for a mega fight. This is not the case Mayweather will face Judah on April 8th in a PPV blockbuster.

Also talks surrounding a Acelino Freitas a hard hitting Brazilian with 1 loss to his record may be facing Morales destroyer Zahir Raheem, also with 1 controversial loss on his record.
