The O.C. – Recap – Episode 3-14

Archive

After all the lying at the end of the last episode, the truth has to be revealed soon enough. And it looks like Summer will find out that Seth lied to her in this episode. I remember last season when Summer told him not to lie to her anymore. Well he did and now what happens?

Sandy lied too and when will Kirsten find out about it? And there may be a problem with his hospital project this week?

Of course, the previews are all about the end of this episode. Johnny is on a cliff and Ryan is up there. Kaitlin and Marissa are watching from below. The title of the episode is “The Cliffhanger”, so obviously this will be interesting. Maybe Ryan pushes Johnny off the cliff. I REALLY hope that Ryan doesn’t run and SAVE Johnny, because he already did that when Johnny tried to rob the gas station and it was same kind of preview before that episode. Ryan just needs to stand up for himself and hopefully he does it in this episode. I’m all for the “foursome”, but Marissa is getting too annoying. If Ryan walks away, maybe she will realize what she’s got.

On with the show!

The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 14) – “The Cliffhanger”

We open up with Sandy waking up Ryan. Seth is missing. Ryan makes an excuse and says that he went to school early. But Sandy doesn’t believe him. Ryan says everything is fine, though. He runs off to find Seth.

Ryan finds Seth at the pier. He is thinking about stuff. Seth tells Ryan the truth. He blew off the interview and lied to Summer about it. Ryan says “great”, which is what I would have said. Ryan demands Seth tell Summer the truth about the interview. If he does that, Ryan will keep quiet about the pot thing. Ryan then picks up on the fact that maybe Seth came to the pier to buy more pot. Seth says he’s not going to smoke anymore, but we’ll see!

“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”

We come back to Kaitlin and Marissa talking at the trailer. Kaitlin informs Marissa that Johnny is taking her surfing. That starts off the conversation about Marissa having feelings for Johnny. Marissa can’t give Kaitlin a straight answer to that question, so Kaitlin assumes she does. Marissa decides to leave as Johnny shows up to pick up Kaitlin.

Kirsten and Julie discuss clients and fixing up other people on dates. Julie is still bummed about Dr. Roberts, though. She can’t fix up anyone right now. Kirsten thinks it’s a good idea to hook Dr. Roberts up with a few dates. That way..he can see what a great woman Julie is and make him come running back to Julie after dating a few “losers”. Hmm..that sometimes actually works.

Seth finds Summer at school. Summer asks Seth if he wrote his “thank you” note to the Brown guy yet? Time to talk. Err..more time to lie. Seth doesn’t tell her the truth. You see..the Brown guy is named Shelley, but Seth assumes it’s a girl. If he went to the interview, he would have known that. Busted! Seth cuts his losses and runs for the hills. Summer is not happy. They will talk after school.

Ryan and Marissa chat at school. Marissa wants to know if Ryan told Summer about the pot thing. He says he will keep quiet if Seth tells Summer the truth about school. Marissa is bummed as she wanted Summer to “bitchslap” Kaitlin for giving Seth the pot. Ryan thinks Marissa is a little too annoyed with Kaitlin. Ryan wonders what is going on. Marissa says it’s just “sister stuff”.

Johnny and Kaitlin are surfing. Kaitlin just wants to have fun, while Johnny is all serious about the surfing. Johnny says he is distracted. Kaitlin thinks it’s because of Marissa. Johnny says that Marissa and him have a complicated history together. Kaitlin wants him to do something, but he won’t. So she says she will find someone else who will do something and she walks away from him.

Sandy and Matt talk at work. There is a hitch in the project. Bill, the guy who is funding the project, has to present it to the board of doctors to make it all go through. Matt has a “personal” connection with the head of the board. That means more strippers and alcohol to get the board on board. Sandy doesn’t think so, though. He wants to go about this without using liquor or sexual favors.

Julie visits Dr. Roberts at home. She thanks him for the party at his house and presents him with the information about their dating service. Dr. Roberts seems for it. They look over the possible dates for Dr. Roberts. Julie puts down every woman they see.

Kaitlin is waiting for Ryan at the pool house. Ryan thinks she should be going back to school now. But it’s a LONG mid-winter break at her school. She informs him that Johnny thinks he still has a shot with Marissa. Ryan says that’s not true. Kaitlin then says that she asked Marissa if she had feelings for Johnny and she didn’t deny it. Ryan says thanks for the “heads up”, but Marissa and him can handle it. Kaitlin wants Ryan to do something about it. She wants him to talk to Marissa to find out where they stand.

Ryan meets Marissa at the diner. He gets right to the point. He wants to knows how Marissa feels about Johnny. Marissa tries to blame Kaitlin, but Ryan says it was going on before Kaitlin got her. Marissa says she is with Ryan. Ryan wonders if she feels sorry for him or maybe she couldn’t talk to him about things or maybe she is in love with Johnny? Ryan wants to know which one it is and until Marissa figures it out..Ryan doesn’t want to see her. He leaves. Thank god! Good for you Ryan!

We are back and Ryan and Seth are in the Cohen kitchen. Seth knows something is up with Ryan. Ryan tells Seth that he and Marissa are on “thin ice”. Seth then tells Ryan that he didn’t tell Summer the truth. But Seth is going to talk to her later and he is going to reschedule the interview with Brown. How?

Seth: “Well..for the first one..I had an epileptic fit..and there was a three-car pileup with a jackknifed truck..so!”

Seth has to work on a better excuse than that.

Julie is making grits in the kitchen to really drive home the “trailer park” feel. The daughters don’t want any, so Julie leaves to go give some to Gus. That leaves the girls alone. Marissa can’t believe that Kaitlin told Ryan. Kaitlin was just giving him her opinion. Marissa knows that Kaitlin is mad at her parents as she thinks they don’t care about her. But Kaitlin thinks that this is all about Johnny. Marissa says Kaitlin is trying to punish her now. And she can’t wait for Kaitlin to leave.

Summer sees Seth at school. She does a little investigating of her own. Summer talks to a woman at school, who says she just talked to the Brown guy and he was very impressed. Summer asks how Seth did in his interview and the woman said that he missed it. Seth just came by to explain what happen. Oh boy..here we go. She leaves.

Julie comes to inform Kirsten that Dr. Roberts has a date. She is not happy and blames Kirsten. Kirsten is sorry. But Julie is going to find out all about Dr. Roberts’ date, which means a little snooping and spying. It’s time to do it the “Julie Cooper” way! Yay!

Chili and Johnny are in Johnny’s room. And Chili wants him to forget about Marissa. Forget about her or go after her. See how she really feels. Maybe she feels the same. So it looks like they have a talk coming.

Sandy and Kirsten are having dinner at a restaurant. They see Matt come in and he is followed by the daughter of the head of the board of doctors. Sandy tells Kirsten that Matt is using her to get them on board the hospital project. She thinks Sandy should go talk to him, but he will do it later. He is having dinner tonight with his wife.

Time for Marissa and Johnny to talk. They agree that things have gotten weird between them. Johnny wants to get everything out in the open. Johnny says that he loves Marissa and he thinks that Marissa loves him too. Don’t assume that..dummy. It will only burn you in the end. I know. Johnny says he told Marissa to stay away from him and not help him, but she did it anyways. She HAS to love him because of that! He thinks there is something “real” between them. Marissa? Hello..speak. Johnny tells her to think about it before she answers. So she does nothing and just stands there as he leaves and we leave for a break! Brother.

Morning time at the Cohen kitchen. Seth and Ryan enter the kitchen where Kirsten and Sandy are. They are followed by Summer. Trouble. She wants to talk to Seth alone. And they go upstairs and SMACK! HIT! HIT! SMACK! Summer beats up Seth.

Summer: “You are in a spiral..and if you don’t stop now you could turn into one of those creepy old men who have secret attics where they hide stolen money and porn!”

Seth: “First of all..that sounds AWESOME!”

Seth says he was scared of the interview. Everyone loves Summer and thinks he’s a nerd. So everyone will love Summer at Brown and he will be her nerdy boyfriend. Summer says that Seth is still smarter than her and he doesn’t need to be scared. Summer just wants them to be honest with each other. Tell her the truth..Seth! He is off the hook now. Lucky Seth!

Sandy tells Matt that he saw him at the restaurant with that girl. Matt says the girl asked him to dinner..not the other way around. Sandy doesn’t like the fact that Matt is using a daughter to manipulate a father. Matt says that maybe Sandy doesn’t have the “stomach” for this. Sandy tells him to think of a “clean” strategy come Monday.

Johnny visits Ryan at the Cohen house. Ryan is not thrilled to see him. Johnny says that Ryan has always been good to him. Helped him out in every way. Ryan says that now he is in love with Marissa. Johnny tells him that he told her. He couldn’t escape his feelings, eventhough he tried to stop them. Ryan wants to know what he wants. Johnny tells him that he’s sorry that it turned out this way. Ryan is not happy. He tells him to leave..NOW!

Julie is in disguise at the restaurant, where Dr. Roberts and his date are having dinner. Her cover is blown when a lady she knows recognizes her. She then blows Julie’s cover to Dr. Roberts and his date as that lady knows Dr. Roberts’ date. Dr. Roberts know that Julie was spying on him. She is embarrassed and leaves to a big scene.

Kaitlin and Marissa chat it up. Kaitlin tells Marissa to make a decision and stick with it. Choice Ryan or Johnny and live with it! Good advice. What will see do?

Johnny gets out of the shower and his mom comes in. Marissa left a note for Johnny. He goes to read it.

Marissa goes to see Ryan now. Marissa says she is sorry and Ryan assumes that she wants to be with Johnny. But she says she is sorry that she even made him wonder who she wanted to be with. Marissa says she couldn’t talk to Ryan about Trey and then Kaitlin came back and everything messed up her mind. She thinks they can work through this. Ryan says it’s not that easy, but Marissa wants to try. No answer from Ryan as we head to break!

Johnny arrives at the Cooper trailer. He wants to talk to Kaitlin or so he says. He wants to “party” with Kaitlin. That means heading to the beach with some alcohol. They go to the beach.

Kirsten finds Sandy at his office. He should have called her, but she knew he would be here. Kirsten tells Sandy that if he wants this project, then he has to go for it. Use whatever means he can. Kirsten knows that Sandy knows where the line is and he won’t cross it.

Seth is smoking some more pot in his room! Liar! And Summer is knocking! Crap! He tries to hide everything and cover up the smell. Summer brought some DVDs to watch. Save The Last Dance and She’s All That. Summer smells something, but Seth says he had gas and had some incense. HA! Got out of that again! Too close for comfort!

Johnny is drinking away his problems. Kaitlin wants to get to the “action” already. But Johnny wants to drink. The fire is dying and Kaitlin goes to get some more wood to “heat things up”. Johnny pulls out the letter from Marissa, while she is gone. It can’t be good. Kaitlin comes back and asks what it is. Johnny says it’s nothing he wants to remember and throws the letter into the fire. Johnny wants to climb some rocks now. Tequila and rock climbing don’t usually mix together that great says Kaitlin. So Johnny tells her to stay down then.

Julie hears knocking at her trailer door and doesn’t want to see anyone. But it’s Dr. Roberts. He wanted to thank Julie for setting him up.

Julie: “If you’ll excuse me..I have a Hot Pocket in the micorwave and a wine cooler with my name on it!”

She wants him to leave, but he came to say that he missed her. He has fallen for Julie and she cries. That was great!

Johnny is climbing rocks, while drunk! Yay! Kaitlin screams for him to get down. But he won’t. He makes it to the top of the cliff now.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Marissa bring back dinner and movies. Marissa wants to talk about things, but Ryan doesn’t want to talk. Ryan asks what she wants from him. Marissa just wants Ryan. And they kiss. And that leads to other stuff as that usually happens. The phone rings and it’s Kaitlin, but they are busy doing what they do. Marissa answers the phone and Kaitlin is upset. She wants him to come get her. Kaitlin talks to Ryan and she needs their help. They are coming to save them!

Summer and Seth finish Save The Last Dance and Seth is crying. Stoned out of his mind! He is touched. Summer wonders what is up. And then the “blue screen of death” pops up onto the TV screen and Seth comments on how amazing it is. Looks like I spoke too soon. Summer knows what’s up and runs off to the bathroom. Err..to his room.

Summer: “Come on Captain Oates..we both know something’s up!”

Summer searches through his room and finds the weed. Gross is her reaction to it.

Ryan and Marissa arrive at the beach. Ryan runs up to get Johnny. Marissa goes to Kaitlin on the beach. They are there to stall Johnny. Marissa wants him to come down. Johnny says they can’t just be friends now. He turns around and sees Ryan. He is the last person he wants to see right now. Ryan thinks they should talk about it down on the beach. But Johnny doesn’t want Ryan to save him once again in front of Marissa. If Ryan saves him, Marissa will love him even more than she already does. Johnny drinks some more. Johnny slips and Ryan runs in for the save, but this time..there is no save. We hear the bottle break and Ryan’s hand empty. Kaitlin and Marissa hide their eyes.

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
