The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

The Super Bowl is this weekend. You know what that means? Commercials! New commercials! And..oh yeah..Steelers vs. Seahawks. That game sounds BORING on paper. But the Patriots are not in this game, so that’s a plus. I stopped caring about the NFL once the Cowboys SUCKED it up the last few weeks and missed the playoffs. I will be rooting for the Seahawks, though, as Shaun Alexander won me a fantasy league title this year! Woohoo!

It should be a fun weekend and hopefully I am off Sunday as I recover from Saturday night. But it probably won’t happen as I almost ALWAYS have to work on Sundays. Oh yeah..TV.

I have a lot to catch up on since I skipped out a day early last week to go out of town. So you will be getting double or sometimes triple doses from certain people this week. You can thank me later. But first..go ahead and set your eyes to “READ” and enjoy the week that was at Pulse TV!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

Nothing to put here as Katie didn’t do anything. Look for that change next week as I am sure some more former ‘Survivor’ people will back to comment on the newest edition of the show!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

The last two weeks..I asked the question…”do you watch FOX more since the return of ’24’ and ‘American Idol’?” And here are the results:

YES..a LOT more! – 8
YES..but only a LITTLE more! – 4
NO..I watch it the SAME as before! – 3
I don’t watch FOX! – 2

Lots of votes as I used the same poll for two weeks. At first..it seemed like people only watched FOX a little more since the return of ’24’ and ‘American Idol’. But over the past week, more people realized that they watch FOX a LOT more now than they did last year. That agrees with me. Which means, the streak continues!

Now for this week’s question. You may want to read below to see what I have to say first, but the question is..“which reality TV show is your favorite?” There are lots of them, but some of the best have lasted through the years. Which one is your favorite though? Click on the link and VOTE! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Which Reality Show Rocks Your Socks Off?!?!

‘American Idol’ and ‘Survivor’ are back and a new edition of ‘The Amazing Race’ is around the corner. I’m not going to talk about any of them specifically, because others around here do that all the time. But I do want to find out something. I know some people HATE reality TV shows and don’t watch them, but I think that almost everyone has seen the shows and they HAD to have liked at least one. There are so many different kinds. But which reality TV show franchise is your favorite?

Is it ‘American Idol’ or ‘Survivor’? Maybe it’s ‘The Amazing Race’ or ‘Big Brother’? How about new ones like ‘Dancing with the Stars’ or ‘Beauty and the Geek’? What about ‘The Apprentice’ or MTV’s ‘The Real World’? Maybe it is one of the other hundreds that have come and gone over the past 10 years. Reality TV is here to stay, because people watch it!

It’s no secret that I LOVE reality TV. I watch them more than traditional shows. I wrote about that awhile back. I never did find out what reality TV shows people like the most, though. I will tell you my favorite. I am partial to ‘The Real World’ as I recap ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II’ right now. I do watch ‘American Idol’, but watch it because friends I know watch it and like it. I just started watching ‘The Amazing Race’. Same can be said about ‘Survivor’, but since that show is on Thursday..I don’t usually watch it because of ‘The O.C.’ and others. I never watch ‘The Apprentice’ as I don’t like Donald Trump. And ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is of no interest to me. I do watch and LIKE ‘Beauty and the Geek’. But my favorite reality TV show HAS to be ‘Big Brother’. Like most reality TV shows I watch..I didn’t see the first few editions of the show. But I did catch the middle of ‘Big Brother 4’ and I LIKED it. So I watched ‘Big Brother 5’ and LOVED it! That made me count down the days until ‘Big Brother 6’ this past summer. Didn’t disappoint me. It never does.

Why do I like ‘Big Brother’? It’s a mixture of all kinds of different reality shows into one. For starters, it’s like ‘The Real World’ where everyone has to live in the same house. The thing is they can NEVER leave the house. They have no contact with the outside world, which adds something to the show. Like ‘The Amazing Race’ and ‘Survivor’ and most reality TV shows, everyone is competing for cash! They want to win $500,000 or however much the top prize is worth for each season. They have interesting competitions to see who the “Head of Household” is each week and then later to see who gets the “Power of Veto”. “Head of Household” has to pick two people to be eliminated each week. “Power of Veto” can take one of these people off and put another up. That’s another interesting dynamic of the show. People fighting with people. It usually happens on most reality shows, but not a lot of reality shows leave the power to the people in the game. Usually..contestants get eliminated based on how they perform. It is true in ‘Big Brother’, but fellow houseguests vote and eliminate people from the house. It happens on ‘Survivor’, but I find it more interesting inside the same house than out in the wild. You may agree or disagree, but the show is addicting.

I can’t wait until the summer for this show. It will fill up my TV watching schedule when most other shows are gone. I know some people are jumping up and down now that ‘Survivor’ is back or ‘American Idol’. I know people have their own reasons why they like certain shows, but for me it’s ‘Big Brother’. I like most any reality show. Some people hate them. I want to know what others think. Vote in my poll above and lets see which reality TV show is the favorite among the people.

That’s all I got this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome.

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
