Insidepulse's Exclusive Interview with Rikets!

Recently, I had a chance to get into contact with the boys from Rikets and had the opportunity to ask them about their latest E.P., Anything For The Devil, their new album, future plans, and more.

First off, congratulations on the E.P. It’s an awesome listen and totally whet my appetite for a full length album. What was the main goal of this album?
To basically put out a glimpse of the band, smack the public with 5 strong songs and just basically get our foot in the door and build up a fan base before we did the full length, even though it’s a E.P., it still stands up to any full length.

How does this band differ for you guys as a unit as opposed to the other projects that you guys were apart of (Genitorturers, Switched, and Erase the Grey)?
This band has nothing to do with any of those bands. It’s something completely different and makes no reference to any of those bands. At one time Brad from Switched was in the band so everyone thought it had something to do with Switched. Quite the contrary. Brad was one of many guitarists that have been in this band and the public just took it and ran with it. I was in Erase the Grey, but I’m not proud of it.

I think a comment I hear a lot is about the name of band. How did you guys come about to calling yourself Rikets?
I just came up with it one day, driving around thinking of what to call it while listening to some of the rough tracks we had laid down. It sounded broken… dirty… disgusting… so I called it “RIKETS”.

With releasing an E.P. before a full length album, which doesn’t happen nearly enough anymore in my opinion, was it more of a feeling out process to see if there would be an audience there or was it something else entirely?
Something else entirely. We had it done and we wanted to put out just a glimpse and that’s what we did.

What were some of the band’s major influences?
Anything and Everything. Bay area metal, trance, southern metal, Duran Duran, synthpop… whatever you throw at me I’m a musical sponge.

Any big tour plans coming up? And when can we expect a full length from you guys?
We’re on tour as we speak with our label mates Allele and after that were working on another tour. As far as the record we’re pretty much writing it on the road and on days off. We take a protools rig on the road with us so that makes it easy to write in crunched situations.

What would your dream tour consist of?
Shit… it would be a festival. Machine Head, Nothingface, Bloodsimple, Goatsnake… The list could go on and on…
