The Movie

Coming off the hugely popular and profitable Saw, you had to figure a that the sequel would feature much of the same. In terms of gore, you’d be correct. However, this movie has much more of a plot than the original.

Eric Matthews is a police officer that apparently has made some bad choices or framed a few people during his career. Like any cop, he has to make a few enemies. All that and his son Daniel is none to fond of him either.

Jigsaw decides to send Matthews a message to get Matthews to find him. Find him he does, after a few SWAT members have an accident. However, things aren’t as cut and dry as they seem, as Matthews’ son is now in a house filled with a toxic gas and a bunch of other people. The objective is for them to get out before they die from the fumes. Needless to say Matthews is pretty pissed about this and does his damndest to find out where the house is. Whether or not he does and whether or not the people in the house make it out is really irrelevant. There is so much blood in this movie that it makes me, as an EMT, giddy. The twist at the end is also priceless.

There is really nothing to say about the acting. It is what it is. The actors do the best with the material given but this movie isn’t exactly driven by intense acting, it is driven by the audiences thirst for blood. To say that the thirst is quenched would be an understatement.

Score: 7/10

The Audio

5.1 Dolby Digital. Sounds fantastic.

The Video

Widescreen 1.78:1 No transfer problems at all. All the blood looks just fine.

The Extras

Theatrical Trailer – It’s the trailer…

Jigsaw’s Game – This is basically a fluff piece where they talk about the plot of the movie and how Jigsaw gets people to do what he wants, including setting up traps for each individual in the house, some of which we never see.

The Traps Of Jigsaw – Behind the scenes look at the different traps that Jigsaw uses. Additionally, some nifty information about them and how some were created.

Bits & Pieces: The Props Of Jigsaw – Goes in depth with the prop master for the film, elaborating on the different toys used for the movie.

Storyboard to Screen – A new twist on an old favorite. They set up 2 TVs, one with the storyboard and one with the scene and have the whole thing play out on both. Cool idea.

Conceptual Art Gallery – The drawings of Saw 2

Trailers – Other films. Normally I say just skip this, but the trailers on this look really good. The Japanese seem to know horror really well.
