Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 12)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a bone! Those were some of the veterans and the rookies. Now the rest are already on the beach and they fight it out…

We open up to a party! Dancing, drinking, hanging out for the remaining people. Ibis says that the “rookie” team is a strong team even after all the B.S. they have been through. They are just having fun and forgetting about the next competition until it happens.

Now everyone comes home at 1:30 a.m. and it wakes up Jeremy. He is not happy. He says that partying into the wee hours of the morning is not good for the “rookie” team.

It’s morning time and Beth babbles on to David about how she is one of the best people on the “veterans”. She still doesn’t think other people think she is that good, though. You think. David says he does not trust her at all and would be nervous if Beth stayed on his team for much longer.

Clue time! “Don’t get too tired out tomorrow!” David is nervous about going into the gauntlet, but if he does go in there..he will “rip someone’s head off!” Alton and MJ try to raise the morale of the “rookies” and try to motivate them to win. MJ does not want to face Alton in the gauntlet and doesn’t think it will happen, but if it does..”it will be a WAR!”

Challenge time! It is called “Spare Tires”! Everyone will climb a ladder and dive through a series of tires suspended in the air. Each player has a 10 minute time limit. Every person has to pull a “release hatch” on the way through. This will drop one tire into the ocean. That will make it harder for the remaining people to make it through. There are 24 tires to start and the last person to go will only have 11 tires to get through, which will be extremely difficult says Jodi. It’s a relay race. Every tire you go through..you get a point for your team. But if you fall..you get no points and the next person to go has to release two tires on their way through. The team that gets the most tires for their team wins this thing! It’s a “Male Gauntlet Day”! Winning team captain gets a Sirius Satellite Boombox and One Year’s subscription to it! Got it already!

Jamie says he doesn’t want to see any of his team’s guys go home and he doesn’t want to have to face Alton either in the gauntlet. That would be scary. Brad thinks he could be the next one to go to the gauntlet for his team. The “rookies” have to sit one guy out since they have one more guy than the “veterans”. Randy sits out.

Team strategy discussion time! Landon suggests they put the “weakest” person first since that will be the easiest time through. Jeremy thinks his butt is on the line and he doesn’t want to go home. Beth tells Derrick that she feels more confident in going at the beginning for the “veterans”. Julie says they believe her and put her as the third person to go. And they hope that she ONLY finishes this thing. Derrick, of course, will do his best. If the “veterans” win, they are closer to tying this game up.

“Veterans” go first! Katie is first for her team! She says it is harder for shorter people because they have to stretch longer to make it through each tire. She makes it through with a total of 23 tires. David is up next! His pants fall down around his ankles, but he makes it through with 22 tires! Beth is next. David says if Beth can make it, they should be good to go. That’s IF she can. Everyone is concerned about her, so that is our cue, of course…

Commercial time!

We come back to Beth. Will she make it through? Nope. The team basically tells her to drop, because they can’t stand to watch her struggle her way through. So she gets 0 tires! Brad is next and he has to drop two tires. He flies through and has 20 tires! Aneesa is up! She is through and she has 19 tires! Timmy, Robin, and Derrick all make it through next and they get 18, 17, and 16 tires..respectively. Julie struggles a little, but she makes it next with 15! Mark is last and he has to swing on his tires, but he makes it as well with 15! Everyone but Beth makes it for their team and no one is happy about that. The “veterans” end up with 163 tires total!

“Rookies” turn to go now! Ibis is up first! She slips and falls halfway through! She cries afterwards because she let the team down! Derrick is glad she fell, because he doesn’t want to go back to the gauntlet! MJ is next and he has to pull two tires. He makes it through with 22 tires! Jillian is up and she has 21 tires! Jamie gets 20 tires! Susie is next. She swings through and gets 19 tires! Jeremy is up. He gets 18. Kina is struggling on her turn. But she gets it and has 17 tires. Landon cruises through with 16. The same for Jodi, who gets 15! Alton is next! He is confident that he can do it. Trouble ahead. Randy says Alton is the man and they expect him to do well, but he is stuck in the middle. He tries everything to get across. Now he’s going to try and jump. Oh boy! He slips and is hanging onto one of the tires. You know the drill…

Commercial time!

Alton is still hanging on for dear life! No go for him! The time limit runs out on him! That means the “veterans” win as the “rookies” only got 148 tires! Alton knows that he is human now, which is always good to know. Oh well..better luck next time. I feel sorry for who he faces in the gauntlet, though! Ouch! Jamie says it would be stupid for him to put in it. MJ wants to be here in the end and will do anything to stay!

“Gauntlet Deliberation” time! Alton has to choose. He picks Jeremy. Jeremy didn’t expect that at all! TJ comes in to spin the wheel and it lands on..thank god..“Capture the Flag”! Finally..something else, but it was SO close to “Captain’s Choice” again! Alton praises Jeremy for how well he has done in challenges, but says that Jeremy didn’t do anything that said..”Jeremy you kicked ass on that challenge and won it for us!”

Gauntlet Time! They have to climb up the cargo net to get the flag. Alton, the robot, was spider man and easily beat Adam in this same gauntlet the last time he was in there! Later Jeremy! Jeremy says a prayer before we start. And here we go! Spider Man wins again! No contest really. Alton wins! Jeremy is upset to be going home right now, especially this close to the end. Alton didn’t want hurt any of his friends, but he must do it. It’s a game. Jeremy thinks that not being into the whole “party” scene with the others..hurt him here.

Brad tells Beth and the rest of the team that Beth could have done better. Beth defends herself. Brad calls her a “disease to the team”. She takes no responsibility for what she does. She always has something to say! Brad wants to get rid of her before the final challenge. They are playing for money and if she is in there at the end..she better perform!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
