American Idol 5 – Recap – Episode 5-13

Archive

So I get to sub for Kevin tonight for the ladies and I love the ladies! Now I am not going to pretend to be a music expert. Some of the people I think SUCK at singing..the judges might like. But to keep things simple for me and keep it consistent with Kevin’s recaps..I will be using his format. Giving ratings to how well the singers did according to me. Lets see what we can come up with..shall we?

Oh..I am still mourning the loss of the HOT..SUPER HOTT..Becky O’Donohue last week along with..um..Stevie Scott..I think. She was not so hott. Both couldn’t sing that well..hence why they are gone. Still a little shocked that Becky’s looks didn’t get her further. She was in Maxim magazine after all! Hmm..maybe I can come up with a conspiracy theory here. Oh well..time to move on.

We have 10 girls left. Some of them can sing and some of them are hott. Sing and being hott? Maybe..just maybe. This is American Idol!!

American Idol 5 – Episode 13 (“Ladies Night #2”)

Credits…

Ryan Seacrest welcomes us to the show, and thanks everyone for keeping ‘American Idol’ the most watched show on TV each week! Then, he introduces the girls to everyone.

Now let’s talk to the judges!

Simon gives himself a 10 out of 10 as far as evaluating talent so far. He would give Paula and Randy each a 6.25. He plays the biggest part.
Randy gives himself an 11 then and Paula a 12 if Simon is a 10.
Paula says Simon bugs her to death. Simon is the brother she never had and never wants.

Our first performer is Katherine McPhee. She and Kellie are roommates and they act like goofy, little girls! She is singing “All is Fair in Love” by Stevie Wonder. A little too whiny for me during the chorus. But it seemed okay elsewhere. Nothing like last week. And a little boring too.

Rating: 6.5/10

Randy – Safe song choice. Wasn’t best choice and just okay for him.
Paula – Agrees with Randy.
Simon – It’s more than singing. Not enough personality and forgettable performance.

Katherine agrees that it wasn’t the best choice, but she made it. Paula yells out that “she is still a star!”

Kinick is up after the…

Ad Break…

Next is Kinick Sky. She’s a little country and the stage “blew her mind”..the first time she saw it. She has been dreaming about this forever. She will be singing “Here For the Party” by Gretchen Wilson. This should be interesting. Um..not that great. A little weird, but she got the crowd behind her..so that should count for something.

Rating: 5.5/10

Randy – Likes the song on Gretchen, but not on her. Enjoyed attitude, though.
Paula – Liked her being fun out there, but didn’t show enough range for her.
Simon – Tried to stand out in the crowd, but thinks he could have saw that in Disney World. A themepark performance.

Kinick said she tried to show Randy that she “may not be a 10, but the boys think she clean up good.” That was after Randy gave her a 6 last week.

Melissa and Lisa are both up after the…

Ad Break!!

Lisa Tucker is here. She was in the “Lion King” play as a kid. She thought this would be easy, but she felt “so tiny” out on the stage. She will singing “Who’s Loving You Now” by the Jackson 5. I liked that one a lot. Did a great job, eventhough she sang it differently than Michael did. But of course.

Rating: 8.5/10

Randy – Different song choice for her.
Paula – Thinks she is good and should be signed already.
Simon – Has to be considered more than a girl singing adult songs. Sail through tonight, though.

She has always loved that song. So that is why she wanted to sing it tonight.

Melissa McGhee talks about clothes and flip-flops. Um..okay. She’s singing “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” by Reba McEntire. This was good. She is probably the best looking girl left in the competition. She could sneak into the finals or just miss out.

Rating: 7/10

Randy – Perfect song choice for here. Smoky voice returned. Hott!
Paula – Says she is very unique. Doing an awesome job.
Simon – Loves her voice, but wrong song choice. Not a connection to the audience yet.

Simon calls Paula a child. They fight. Randy moves in between those two. Melissa wanted to do a fun song and show her personality to Simon and Randy and Paula loved it, but Simon didn’t so there you go. Ryan asks what is the problem and Paula says that Simon always has to be right. Simon says he is trying to help, though.

Heather is coming up after the…

Ad Break!!

Heather Cox got a snake wrapped around her neck on the streets of Hollywood earlier. She kids that Simon is a snake as well. Oh..and she is a “stalker” of ‘American Idol’. She has watched every episode and taped them so that she could rewatch them every week. She is singing “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Seemed okay to me. Nothing seriously wrong there. Nothing special either, though. A little too slow and boring. Not enough to stand out, which is not good.

Rating: 5/10

Randy – Poor song choice again.
Paula – Says singing a Mariah song is hard to do. Did a good job. Not great, though.
Simon – Agrees with Paula and Randy. Pointless because she did nothing different with the song.

She felt good about taking that “risk”. She enjoyed herself. That’s all she has to say.

Brenna, the “bitch”, is up after the…

Ad Break!!

We’re back and Brenna Gethers says she is smiling like Gedeon because America loves his smile. She will own this tonight. She loves the red carpet and acts all conceited. She will singing Donna Summer’s “A Last Dance”. Oh boy..disco. Seemed to try a little too hard for me. She got the crowd behind her a little bit and did more dancing than singing.

Rating: 4/10

Randy – Vocally not there. Pitchy all over the place.
Paula – Didn’t show that spark like she has shown.
Simon – Typical bar performance. Could be the last we see of her.

Brenna thought she did a great job. She thought America would love it and she is AWESOME! She finally admits that she is not perfect, though. WOW!

Ad Break!!

It’s time for Paris Bennett. Ryan says the judges have been tough and they need a hott one right now. Paris loves Hollywood, because she can be herself. She has many different personalities and fashion styles. She is singing “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler. Did another fantastic job. Got the crowd behind her, eventhough this was not that type of song.

Rating: 8/10

Randy – Calls her a young Lauren Hill. But safe song choice. Not a scorcher, but still hott!
Paula – Amazing performer. Tells her to celebrate the fun and youth of herself.
Simon – A little boring when trying to sing like she was 50. Doesn’t have to do that.

Paris says her great grandmother loves that song and Simon says she said it all there. A little too old for her to sing.

Kellie and Ayla are up after the…

Ad Break!!

We’re back and Ayla Brown has never put on makeup before. A little strange as she is somewhat pretty. But she is singing “I Want You To Need Me” by Celine Dion. Not too shabby there. Quite good really.

Rating: 7/10

Randy – Surprised him again like Paula. Liked it.
Paula – Surprised her again. Great last week, but even better this week.
Simon – Working harder probably more than anyone has ever worked before. Remember her as good, but not the song. Doesn’t know if it will be good enough or not, though, in the end.

Kellie Pickler talks about Hollywood and how it’s so different. Dogs wear clothes here! She is singing “Something To Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt. She got the crowd behind her a lot during this song. This song fit her voice better than last week.

Rating: 6/10

Randy – Got a hott one! Did her thing tonight!
Paula – She calls her too cute. Squishy even. Uh..okay.
Simon – Can’t help but like her. Not the best vocal, but America could fall in love with her because she is so cute.

She says nothing really. Just says “thanks” in her “cute” voice. She can’t dance either.

One last performance after the…

Ad Break!!

Last one and she tells jokes to Ryan! Singing Faith Hill’s “Cry”, it’s Mandisa! This will be interesting. No major problems here. She’s got a BIG voice among other things. But still great. Maybe tried a little to hard at the end, but that’s about it.

Rating: 8/10

Randy – Verse was a little shaky. Great vocals, though. Didn’t like song choice. Didn’t hear it all from her tonight.
Paula – Says nothing of note.
Simon – Thinks America will keep her around for awhile. Didn’t nail it, but when she is “on it”..there is not a better female singer in this competition.

Mandisa is a little surprised at those comments, but in a good way.

Ryan wraps things up with the recap, and we’re out!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
