The Art of Wrestling: KENTA & Kenta

Archive

Let’s watch some wrestling!

I just got a new media computer, and I’m pretty damn busy with work this week. So, instead of actually writing a column, I’ve decided to rip off Dan Hevia‘s timesaving idea and just post some stuff to You Tube that we could all enjoy. After last week’s KENTA column, I thought it might be fun to check out some of his matches. Thanks to David Ditch for setting me up with most of these files!

The audio may take a while to kick in on a couple of these, but you’ll get sound eventually.

We’ll start out with the match I reviewed last week:

KENTA & Marufuji vs. Misawa & Ogawa

Then we’ll follow that up with one of KENTA’s best underdog performances from 2004, against his mentor, Kenta Kobashi. If you enjoy this match, let me know and maybe next week I’ll post his battle against Kobashi’s former protégé, Jun Akiyama.

And now, what has arguably been KENTA’s best match in 2005 (It’s the best one I’ve seen, but I haven’t seen the Low Ki match yet), vs. former Toryumon star SUWA in the battle of the guys who spell their names in all caps. SUWA is one of wrestling’s great heeels, and he pulls out all the stops in this supremely entertaining match!

And, as an old-school cherry on your KENTA sundae, here’s a classic six-man tag from the Jumbo & friends vs. Misawa & friends feud that defined early 90s All Japan.

Jumbo Tsuruta, Yoshinari Ogawa & Masanobu Fuchi vs Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi, All Japan 7/26/91

If you’ve read McTavish’s MMA column, then you may be dying to see the Shogun vs. Coleman fight and the resulting brawl. Well, here you go:

PRIDE 31: Shogun vs. Mark Coleman

And here’s another sick fight from the same show. This one’s not for the weak of stomach:

PRIDE 31 – Sergei Kharitonov vs Alistair Overeem

So what did you think? I really want to know! I understand that there are some problems with my IP email account. Since nobody is a bigger whore for feedback than I am, I am asking… no, I am begging you to send feedback to mr.gordi at gmail dot com. Or, you can accomplish the same thing by clicking here. Thanks!
