Previously, on Lost: The Others took Rousseau’s baby Alex, Claire is hallucinating about someone trying to steal Claire’s baby from her womb, and Hurley notices that one man isn’t on the manifest, Ethan Rom. Wow, we’re going way back, aren’t we? Ethan orchestrates the kidnapping of Claire, only for her to be found later. She doesn’t remember Ethan or what happened to her. The Other is interrogated by Sayid as he claims not to know anything about the Others.
On the island, Claire is trying to calm a crying Aaron down, and then runs over to talk to Locke about what’s happening with Aaron. Turns out he’s got a fever and a nasty rash, but Locke offers to run to the hatch and get Dr. Jack. Jack leaves the hatch to check on the baby, as Locke sits and guards the door where the Other(?) is. Claire is still trying to make Aaron feel better, but Rousseau arrives and asks if the baby is infected, as Claire doesn’t seem to remember anything. We then go through a Requiem-like series of cuts, including the line “It’s a vaccine, we don’t want him to get sick” and some wicked noises nonetheless. Kate runs over and angrily tells Rousseau to scram, but Claire seems worried that Rousseau says there’s something wrong with him.

Jack is checking up on Aaron, but assures Claire that nothing wrong is going on with the baby and that they’ve got to just let the fever pass. Claire is still worried about Rousseau but Jack writes her off as crazy and Kate assures her that if there was anything wrong with Aaron, Jack would know.
Claire and Kate walk over to talk with Libby, as Claire wants to see if Libby can help Claire remember what happened during Ethan’s kidnapping. Jack explains what happens when they found Charlie, and then Claire talks about having amnesia but getting spurts here and there, but Libby suggests that Claire is just blocking the memories, but she wants Libby to unblock them.
Locke opens the door to the armory, and Jack wants their captor to let him know when he needs to go to the bathroom, and Locke drops off some reading material. “You don’t have any Stephen King?” (Note: I’m not even going to touch the symbolism of the book that is likely being referenced to here, as it’s my opinion that of all the things in this show, the one thing that bores me the most is the geeky book references.) Anyway, Locke and Jack leave the armory and shut it close behind them, as Jack asks about the book. Locke thinks it’s just something to pass the time, and then asks Jack what they’re going to do. Jack claims that until they figure out who he is and what he’s doing here on the island they’ve gotta keep on doing what they’re doing, and if Locke has a better idea, let’s hear it. “How about you let me go?”
On the island, Kate is taking care of Aaron as Libby tries to evoke the flashbacks out of Claire through hypnotism. Well, that’s a neat twist.
Flashback: We start out with the Requiem cuts and the strange blaring noise, and then we go to Claire, who hasn’t been been in for a checkup in a while, but is traveling to Los Angeles in her third trimester and will be giving up the baby for adoption. “I’m going to give you a shot now, Claire. A little medicine for your baby.” And the doctor is Ethan Rom. The strange noise continues as Claire snaps out of it again, seeing a strange woman’s face once again before freaking out that it was Ethan.
Kate comes over to try and calm Claire down, and then Claire wants Kate to help her find the room that she saw in her flashback. Since there should be some medicine for the baby.
Eko chops away at a tree, before finally chopping enough to knock the whole damn thing down. Eko walks into the hatch, as Jack keeps their captor a secret, and Eko eventually runs into Locke, asking for a saw. As Locke leads the way, Eko takes a glance over at the armory room.
Kate comes over asking Sawyer for a gun but Sawyer wants to know why. She’s going to track down Rousseau, the French woman, and will be going with or without her. “No boys allowed, huh?” Sawyer allows her to get to the gun stash.
Claire leaves Aaron with Sun while Sun tries to convince Claire to not leave her child. Claire starts to get defensive as Sun asks if she’s sure she wants to do this. The line is repeated…
Flashback: “You need to be sure.” We see the flying plane mobile above Aaron’s crib(?), the strange blaring noise, the awful woman, someone grabbing Claire’s womb…and then we’re back in the hospital room as Ethan opens up his medicine cabinet again. He grabs the bottle of medicine bottle marked CR 4-81516-23 42 and begins to inject it into the syringe as Claire asks if he has to put it in her tummy since it hurts. “The baby needs it, Claire.” She agrees, as Ethan injects another round of medicine, and Ethan offers to give Claire a surprise. Ethan leads Claire down a hallway that has a room marked “Escape Hatch,” and then we see the Dharma symbol. Claire tries to look down a hallway, but Ethan keeps her focused. And then Ethan takes Claire into a room for Aaron. Ethan would love to explain everything to Claire but it would be a little overwhelming. Claire then notices the mobile over the crib, watching it spin as an Other calls Ethan over, chastising him for not making the list first but then Ethan says that they had a manifest. The other Other doesn’t know what he’s going to tell *HIM*, and then shuts the door so they can have a little more privacy from Claire. And then the blaring noise continues but we get a little more out of the strange woman, telling Claire to get out of the Other’s hatch.
Claire finally snaps out of it, as Sun asks if she’s alright. She is, and Kate’s ready to go. The baby cries more and more, as Claire gives him a kiss goodbye. Claire seems to have second thoughts, but eventually agrees to continue. Kate and Claire are following Rousseau’s trail, and the trail comes to an end as Claire asks Kate what happened to Rousseau’s research team on the Black Rock. She murdered them because they were all infected, as there’s Rousseau. Claire demands to be taken to the third hatch right now, and Rousseau agrees, leading the way.
Jack swings by to grab some water, but Eko wants to have a word. Eko noticed that they’re keeping a man in the hatch, not from anything Locke told him. Eko blackmails Jack into talking to the man, threatening to blow the lid on the whole thing.
Rousseau, Claire, and Kate continue through the jungle, as Rousseau comes to a stop, as this is where Claire scratched Rousseau. Rousseau thought Claire knew where to go from here and calls Claire a liar, putting her hands on Claire, but Kate draws her weapon. Rousseau lets Claire go, and Rousseau steps up and puts her chest right on the barrel of Kate’s gun. “Go ahead. Please.” Kate backs off and follows Claire, as Claire manages to trigger another flashback.
Flashback: Claire is lying on the ground, pregnant, as the blaring noises continue and injections are performed and she is told to wake up. Ethan comes in the baby’s room as Claire has one bootie left to knit. Ethan wants to sneak out with Claire and take a walk, and Claire agrees. Claire seems to be a little tipsy, as Ethan leads Claire over to the piece of wood we just saw pre-Flashback, and then hands over a salve to give to Claire. Claire takes a drink and then lets Ethan feel the baby kick right after the drink. Ethan’s going to miss Claire, and wishes Claire didn’t have to go. But there’s not enough vaccine for the baby and her. Once she delivers the baby Claire can go back to her friends, but Ethan wants to make sure that Claire is sure that she wants this to happen before they take Claire’s baby.
Claire runs over past the piece of wood as rain begins to fall. She seems to know where she’s going, and Rousseau wants Kate to leave Claire alone, but Kate doesn’t think Claire is going to find anything since she doesn’t really know what she’s looking for. But oh yes, she does. She pulls away a ton of foilage and a tarp to reveal the door to the third hatch. Kate and Claire pop it open to find darkness inside, except for a flickering light.
The three women climb inside the hatch and walk towards the flickering light with Kate’s weapon drawn. Kate opens a box containing flashlights, handing them out to all three women, as the light flickers in the room that Ethan walked Claire down. Kate wants to try and turn the power on, but the hallway reminds Claire and she leads Rousseau down the hallway. She looks over at the door that should lead to…the baby’s room. Sure enough, that’s where it used to be. Now all that’s left is a rocking chair. Kate opens another door leading to a row of lockers, and three big lockers containing ratty clothes, theatrical glue, and a beard…WHAT?!?!!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!? Is that how grumbly Other dude got his beard?
Claire finds a bootie on the floor of Aaron’s room AND
Flashback: “Wake up.” Blaring noise, and there’s the young woman, telling Claire to leave the hatch now. She picks Claire up and tries to get her out as Claire looks at an operating table, as doctors prepare for what the young woman claims to be Claire’s death bed, as they’ll cut Aaron right out of her. The woman finally knocks Claire out with chloroform. The blaring noise and Reqiuem cuts again.
And now Claire’s looking at the bootie again. Claire knows that the medicine’s here, but the cabinet is overturned in the checkup room. Kate runs over to help Claire tip the cabinet up. They finally do, and the door is opened to find an empty cabinet. Uh-oh. Claire wants Rousseau to tell her where it is, but then Rousseau triggers another Flashback: to Rousseau finding Claire passed out in the jungle, waking up disoriented and calling for Ethan. She’s sure that she wants Ethan to take the baby, but there’s Rousseau. There’s three people calling for Claire, and Claire is trying to get them over to find her, but Rousseau is trying to keep them quiet so she isn’t discovered. And Claire is knocked out again, this time with the butt of a rifle.
Rousseau wasn’t trying to take her back–she was trying to save her. Rousseau carried Claire back to her camp and left her where they would find her. Rousseau is going to try and find Alex now, ready to leave the hatch.
Back in the jungle, Claire is leading the way now, as Rousseau comes to a stop and Claire asks about Rousseau’s girl Alex. Claire remembers a girl with blue eyes in the hatch, the one who got her out of the hatch. “She wasn’t like the Others, she was good.” Rousseau hopes that Aaron is not infected, but if it is…”I hope you know what must be done.” Rousseau is near tears as she walks away.
Locke is doing dishes in the hatch as Jack arrives with Eko. But Eko knows about their captor, and Locke doesn’t seem shocked at all. Jack warns Eko to not say too much to him, and then Locke adds that if the alarm goes off, Eko shouldn’t tell him what it’s for. “What is it for?” Locke doesn’t give an answer, but just opens the door. Eko walks in and offers a hand, introducing himself to Henry. Eko takes a seat and asks how long Henry’s been in here. Two days. He’s a prisoner and he doesn’t know why, but now Eko wants Henry to shut up as he explains that he killed the others who dragged him away and then tells Henry that he regrets that decision, wanting Henry to forgive him for what he did. Henry asks why Eko’s telling him this, but Eko had to tell someone. And then Eko draws a knife, cutting off two strands of his beard. Eko stands, holsters his knife and then leaves.
The baby is getting better as Claire shows Aaron his bootie, as Claire cries over wanting to give Aaron up, but now they’re meant to be together, to take care of each other. “You’re mine, and I love you, I love you so much.” Claire kisses Aaron’s head.
Back in the armory, Locke arrives with some food for Henry, taking another glass and bowl. Henry asks if it’s true what he said about Hemingway, and this turns into a conversation about how Jack calls the shots. Locke denies that, saying they make decisions together, but Henry has planted the seed of doubt. And Locke leaves the hatch, going to the dishes on the counter and then freaking out, throwing dishes on the floor as Henry listens with pleasure through the thin door.
