Battlestar Galactica Episode 2:14 Black Market

Guest Star: Bill Duke as Phelan AKA the big, well dressed guy.

Colonel Fisk is the new Pegasus Commander. Baltar uses Sharon and Helo’s unborn hybrid child’s fetal blood to cure President Roslin. Billy spies Dualla and Lee getting a little close while sparing. Roslin worries about supplies. Lee Viper is Shot during the Resurrection Ship Battle, and is rescued after ejecting. Lee admits to Kara that he didn’t want to come back

Lee approaches a table in a crowded bar with a gun and points it a large, well dressed man. The man says, “You are not going to shoot. You are not like me.”

On Cloud 9, two days earlier.

Lee awakes in bed with a women. Complains that he is late. They fool around a bit.

Roslin has a meeting with Fisk, Adama and Baltar. Fisk remarks on her remarkable recovery. Roslin discussed supply problems, and says that their supplies are adequate but they are not getting to the people. Says people are turning to the black market. Fisk says it’s the nature of the beast. Roslin replies they need to implement a new trade policy where they are in control of their supply chains and not black market thugs. She want military support. Fisk offers to “run these dogs down.” Adama says they will do what they can.

Fisk and Baltar discuss Roslin, complaining about her attempts to control the black market. Fisk asks if Baltar got the cigars he sent him.

Lee flashes back to before the war, and a attractive blonde. Back in reality he discovers meds in his “friends” room, and talks to her daughter. He gives the daughter “Paya” a one eyed doll which scares her. He says he is not good with kids, and maybe he should have held out for the seond eye. Lee gets ready to leave, says he is not sure when he will back. His “friend” says she’ll have to charge an extra 100 since he spent the night…. damn…

Back on Pegasus, Fisk heads to his quarters. He sees someone there, and says he wonders when he was going to show up. Then someone starts to strangle Fisk with a garrote and we see the large, well dressed man smoking a cigarette, watching.

Lee is returning to Galactica on a Raptor, having flash backs again of the blonde.

Dr. Cottle shows Tigh and Adama Fisk’s body, says he was garroted. Cottle finds a gold coin in Fisk’s mouth. Tigh and Adama wonder whether there is another Cylon.

Adama tells Lee that he wants him to lead the investigation into Fisk‘s death.. Says he wanted someone who he can trust.

On Pegasus, Lee checks out Fisk’s quarters, finds Black Market goods in a closet, including a gold bracelet, which he pockets. Baltar shows up demanding to see Fisk. Adama let’s him in and tells him about Fisk’s death. Adama shows him some cigars he found, and asks him if that was his brand. Six shows up and tells Baltar to be careful. Lee questions Baltar and Baltar wonders if Lee was interrogating him. With prompting from Six, he acts offended that Lee would question him. He says he was there to talk to Fisk about the Trade Policy, then asks Lee if he wanted an alibi. Lee tells Baltar to enjoy the cigars.

On Galactica, Tigh, Lee, and Adama discuss people finding out about Fis’s death and it’s potential problems. Lee reveals that Fisk has been working the Black Market. They wonder if he got greedy. Adama comments that he needs trading partners, and Lee says that they wouldn’t be hard to find. Lee then flashes backs to his hooker girlfriend who is complaining that she needs meds for Paya. He says he will try to bring something on his next trip. Ms. Hooker says she may need to hit the black market.

Lee shows up at Tig’s quarters. Gives him the gold bracelet, asks if it is his wife’s. He said he found it on Pegasus, in Fisk’s quarters. Lee comments that Tig’s quarters seems to have a lot of nice things. Tigh admits he traded with Fisk. Tigh gets indignant and says he hasn’t done anything that others haven’t done, including Lee. Lee then flashes back to some more moments with Ms. Hooker. Tells Tigh that “it doesn’t make us right Colonel, just a whole lot of people wrong.”

Lee punches a bag… stress reliever. Dualla is there, and chats him up, with a bit of flirtation. She asks him whether their relationship is going anywhere. Lee isn’t sure what she wants him to say (wuss). She says “then don’t say anything. “

Lee gets a call from Cloud 9. He rushes to Ms. Hooke’s quarters and discovers her beaten up. He tries to get them to go back to Galactica, but gets attacked by some dude, who then strangles him with a garrote. He struggles, then the big, well dressed man, talks to him. Tells him he doesn’t care who he is. He says, tell Adama to let it go. Lee blacks out.

Lee has more flash backs, talking to Ms. Hooker (Shevon) about his lost blonde chick. He then wakes up to discover Ms. Hooker and Paya missing. He calls for security, and discovers a dead body lying on the floor. One of the big, well dressed man’s henchman.

Baltar meets with Roslin. She says she’s not so sure where they stand. They talk about Fisk. He says he talked to him about the Trade policy. Roslin says she’s grateful that he saved his life, but she feels he is uneasy about becoming President, so she offers him a chance to resign. He says that he was never interested in Politics, that he never wanted to be the Vice President, until this moment, because he can’t think of anything he wants more.

Lee is talking to Security. Says the dead henchman has the garrote that killed Fisk. Then “Councilman” Zareck shows up, acting concerned for Lee. Takes a couple shots at Lee for his hooker issues. Lee questions Zareck about the Black Market, making insinuations. Show’s Zareck Fisk’s logs which shows visits to the Astral Queen. Zareck says that Fisk approached him but he turned him down, and Frisk was freezing him out. Zareck says they gave him Fisk’s killer as a way out. Zareck tells him there are rumors about a freighter Prometheus, which is Phelan’s (the big, well dressed man’s) headquarters.

Zareck says “Lee, I hope she’s worth it.”

Lee flies to Prometheus and has more hot blonde flashbacks. He enters a crowded Market type setting where many things are for sale. Some people in uniform scramble when they see him. He sees a small holding pen with children, including Paya. He calls to her, and tries to reassure her. Says he will be back.

He enters a bar and spies some of Phelan’s men, and see Phelan himself talking to some hotties. One of Phelan’s brutes brings Lee to him. Lee asks him if she’s dead, and Phelan says he can see why he likes her, she’s one of his best. Lee acts shocked that Shevon was one of his hoes, then Phelan waves and she comes over. She apologizes to Lee, saying “she had too.” Ah, the hooker betrayed him…

Lee questions Phelan about Fisk. Phelan says that Fisk was a pig and tried to renegotiate their contract. Phelan said he gave him the killer, the murder weapon, the prints, everything he needed to end the case, and back off. Phelan says that the fleet needs him, they need a place to go when supplies are low. He said when Shevon needed medicine for her daughter, she knew where to find him.

Lee asks about the caged children. Phelan, replies that some people have more demanding needs, the sick bastard.

One of Phelan’s henchman pulls a gun on Lee. Lee says he could have Prometheus raided in a second but he want to make a deal. He takes, Shevon the girl, and he walks out, leaves Phelan alone. Phelan says the little girl has already been paid for, no refunds. Shevon freaks out. Lee approaches the gun wielding henchman, then takes his gun… now, the show down… Lee holding the gun on Phelan….

Commercial Break

As Lee holds the gun on Phelan, he rambles on about how the Black Market needs limits, that Phelan has crossed the line. Phelan says Lee won’t shoot him. Lee starts to lower the gun, thinks about the blonde flashback chick, then shoot Phelan in the chest. Phelan dies.

Lee looks at the henchman, and it’s a Wicked Witch of the West moment, no one seems all that upset. He says they are still in business, but if there are anymore killings, if they hold back essential medicines, or touch a child… he leaves the implication in the air. I’m guessing that bad things would happen.

He approaches Shevon, but she rejects him, saying he wants her to be like his blonde flashback hotty. She says she’s a replacement. Shevon reveals that Lee and his blonde flashback chick fought over whether to have a child, and they broke up, and she died in the Cylon attack. She says that she isn’t her, and Paya won’t be his child.

Lee reports to Roslin and Adama. Roslin wants to know about Prometheus. Lee said they will keep an eye on it. She’s pissed, saying it’s not an option to allow a criminal enterprise in the fleet. Adama backs up his son. Lee says he supports her policy, but it will never be perfect. Says he at least knows the players and can monitor the system. She gets pissy and sends them away.

On Prometheus, Zareck seems to be partying with Phelan’s old henchman.

Back on Galactica, Lee sees Dualla is now exercising with Billy. Lee talks to Adama. Adama says that the president wasn’t happy. He says Lee has been hard to reach since his ejection from the Blackbird. Lee says they all have been through a lot. Adama says that Lee should have told him about the women.
