Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 14)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a
bone! Those were some of the veterans and the rookies. Now the rest are already on the beach and they fight it out…

It’s time to celebrate! Beth is gone! Oh..wait..they do this all the time. But I bet everyone is happy that Beth is gone. All the talk is about Alton and Jodi right now, though. Jillian is happy for their”relationship”.. whatever it may be. As long as it doesn’t hurt their team.

Ibis, Kina, and Jodi talk about Alton after the party now. Jodi can really see herself with Alton. Ibis thinks he is still stuck on his ex-girlfriend. Jodi doesn’t want to be the “transition” girl. Kina says that Jodi is “looking for love in all the wrong places”. It’s hard to get a good relationship with a good guy in this game. She tells Jodi to just be cautious about the whole thing.

Clue time! “Good luck getting yourself out of this situation! It’s definitely going to be the pits!” Everyone figures that they will be stuck in a big hole. Jodi says it’s tough since it’s a “Male Gauntlet Day” and Alton could be going to the gauntlet.

Jamie says that his head could be on the chopping block and he needs a win to ease his mind a little bit. Brad says he is going to win at all costs. He is not thinking about who will be going to the gauntlet if they lose, because he is focused on winning only. That’s the only option. Alton says the same thing. He’s going to help the “rookies” win so he won’t have to go to the gauntlet. Derrick is not worried about the gauntlet. He will beat anyone in it. Alton is nervous for some reason, eventhough it’s just a game.

It’s Challenge time! It is called “The Pit”! The whole team will be at the bottom of this pit. There are a few tools they can use to help get their entire team up to the upper deck. Whichever team gets all of their members and all of their supplies out of the pit in the fastest time..wins this challenge. Julie says that each team has 30 minutes to get all of its team out. So whoever gets the most people out of the pit will win or whoever does it the fastest time will win, if there is a tie. The first team will go and the other team will not be able to see what they are doing. They will be sequestered, which Timmy is happy about. He gets to hear TJ say the word..”sequestered”! The winning male captain will get a DJ music package. AWESOME!

The “veterans” walk over to the “sequester zone”, while the “rookies” have to decide which guy has to sit out, since they have more people. They pick Randy and he is automatically not up to go to the gauntlet. Jamie says it’s up to him and Landon and MJ to win this thing now, since they are the only ones that can get sent to the gauntlet today for the “rookies”.

The “rookies” start off. Ibis tells us that they have “the most random s**t” to use in here. This includes duck tape, big rubber balls, and foam noodles that you use to float in the water with. MJ tells us they they are pretty much “working as they go”. Susie says the guys get the idea of using their bodies as human ladders. Alton is out first. MJ is next. Alton will be trying to help everyone out from up top now since he can’t go back down. They keep climbing up each other. Susie is out now. Ibis is out..followed by Jodi, Kina and Jillian. Jamie is dragged up the wall and out now as well. Everyone is out except Landon. Um..this could be tricky. They try to figure out how to get Landon out now.

We go to the “sequester zone” where the “veterans” are talking about what they need to do. Julie says they have 30 minutes to talk strategy now, so it’s good that they are going second. They need to decide who their good climbers are and stuff like that.

Back to the “rookies”. Landon is having trouble getting out. They are trying a nylon rope to pull him out. It rips. Next they tape up the noodles together and try to use that. But they shred apart. Alton says the only way is for Landon to crawl up Alton. So Alton has to dangle himself down there, but if he falls..they get a DQ. Alton’s butt is on the line, though, so he says it’s up to him anyways. Kina says this is a huge risk to take. So that means we get our first break? This is out first break?! A lot of stuff has happened. Anyways…

Commercial time!

We come back and the “veterans” are walking back to the pit. The thirty minutes are up. They have to pass the “rookies” and Mark says that it looks like that the “rookies” didn’t get all of their players up but they don’t know.

And we won’t know either as the “veterans” are going next. So let up the suspense build. Robin says they are using the “cheerleading” strategy, which is basically the same thing the “rookies” did. David and Brad are up first. The girls follow and that leaves Timmy, Mark, and Derrick. They drag Derrick up next. That leaves two more. Mark gets dragged up with help from the bottom and the top. Timmy is the last man. He doesn’t know how he can get up there, though. They have the same trouble as the “rookies”. They try to use the supplies, but that doesn’t work. So they go with the same thing as the “rookies”. Mark is going to dangle back in. Robin and others don’t want him to do it. But Mark knows that if he falls in, they will lose. They stop him from doing it for now. Timmy tries to jump up, but it doesn’t work. Nothing else works, though. They have 1 minute left now. Timmy gets a bright idea now. He will tape his feet to a yoga ball. They will dangle the noodles down and he will grab them. The ball and him will all come up or so he thinks. But that doesn’t work either. They try everything except what the “rookies” did or didn’t do. The time limit is up. Derrick thinks they have won since he knows that the “rookies” probably didn’t get everyone out either.

Time for the official verdict. The “veterans” got 8 of their people up in 6 minutes. But no one else. The “rookies” got everyone up and all of their equipment up in 25 minutes! WOW! So the “rookies” win again! And now we flashback to take a look at how the “rookies” won. Landon crawled up and used Alton as a “rock” to make it to the top. Everyone is excited. The “rookies” are up $80,000 to $50,000. Derrick says that Timmy was the weakest today since he couldn’t get out. It’s just one more gauntlet for Derrick, though, says Derrick.

“Gauntlet Deliberation” time! Derrick tells everyone to make the best decision. They all know who performs the best. Aneesa says it’s between Brad, Timmy, and David. Everyone writes down their choice on a piece of paper. We’ll get the decision when we get back from a break!

Commercial time!

They all decide on Brad! David said he voted for Brad, since he wouldn’t vote for Timmy! TJ comes in to spin the wheel and it lands on “Captain’s Choice”! The cursed wheel is back! Derrick decides to go with “Name That Coconut”! Derrick says that Brad is a good friend of his, and he doesn’t want to do it like this but he has to.

Gauntlet Time! You know the rules. They get questions and they have to fight for the answers. Timmy says this gauntlet will be a great one. It could go either way.

Question #1: On the Inferno II, this cast member caused a huge fight between Robin and Tonya over Mark?

Brad gets there first and searches for the right coconut. One coconut pops out and Derrick thinks it’s the correct one. It is correct. He takes the lead.

Answer #1: Beth

Question #2: Who was almost fired from her job in Boston?

Not much fighting over the coconuts as it looks like neither of them know who it is. Susie wants Brad to win. Derrick grabs one and Brad tries to take him down, but nothing. Derrick is in the “safety zone” and it’s correct!

Answer #2: Montana

Question #3: On the Real World San Diego, who was unable to get into a club because they tried to use a fake I.D.?

Answer #3: Cameran

Aneesa is rooting for Derrick. Derrick gets the first coconut, but it’s wrong. It’s not Robin. Brad gets the right coconut!

Question #4: During the first season of The Inferno, who smoked a cigarette while competing in an inferno?

Derrick says this game is more of a fight than a trivia game. Who wants that coconut the most? Derrick says he does as he rips it from Brad and it’s the right one!

Answer #4: Katie

Question #5: Who knocked out Mary-Beth on a face-off challenge on ‘Road Rules’?

Derrick and Brad search and Derrick finds what he thinks is right and dives for “safety”. He gets it and it’s correct! 4-1 for Derrick!

Answer #5: Jillian

Question #6: Who had to go skinny dipping after losing a bet on the Inferno II?

Brad says he is not giving up and he is still “in it to win it”. Brad gets a coconut and crosses the line. And it’s the right one!

Answer #6: Jodi

Question #7: Who was sent home after losing in a bull-riding competition on the first season of The Gauntlet?

Brad sits back and lets Derrick grab a coconut. Brad tries to block Derrick, but he gets across and it’s the right coconut! So Derrick wins 5-2!

Answer #7: Montana

Derrick says he is fortunate to still be here. And hopes that he has proven himself to the entire team. Brad doesn’t know why he keeps getting voted off at the end of every challenge, but he tries his hardest. He REALLY wants to win one of these things, but the third time is not the charm.

Brad is packing and he didn’t see the loss coming today. Julie says that Brad could be very helpful to them at the end, but they lost him now. He says goodbye and Julie says it’s a terrible day for their team. Derrick says it’s sad to see him leave.

Back to Alton and Jodi talking to end things. Alton says it’s not about where they are in their separate relationships. It’s about where they are in “their” relationship. Jodi asks Alton if she is his transition relationship, but then takes it back and says she didn’t mean to say it. But Alton says it’s a good question. He says..”to a degree..of course.” He doesn’t want to lead her on. He sees her as a good friend and nothing more right now. Jodi says that she is not expecting anything since she knows that Alton has “a lot to figure out when he gets home.” She knows not to get attached to him. Alton doesn’t want her to act like all weird now. Jodi promises not to, but I don’t believe her!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
