The Perishers – Let There Be Morning Review

The Inside Pulse: With gentle guitars and melancholy pianos, Swedish band The Perishers will instantly bring to mind the earlier offerings of Coldplay. Their US debut, Let There Be Morning, is a 10-track offering of wistful, bittersweet music tailor made for those sensitive souls looking for the proper soundtrack to play in the background as they sip their chai tea and read some poetry.

Positives: They’re strong musicians.

Negatives: Where to begin? Was the world really clamoring for another pompous, self-indulgent band? Wasn’t one Coldplay enough? The Perishers strive so hard to show everyone how earnest and sensitive they are. Unfortunately, their songs just meander in a wash of piano and muted guitar, as singer Ola Klüft warbles on about his fragile heart.

Cross-breed: Coldplay, Coldplay, and more Coldplay. Did I mention Coldplay?

Reason to buy: If your Coldplay collection just isn’t complete without owning every other Coldplay-inspired band’s CD.
