The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

So how many of you skipped work this week or didn’t do any work at your job, so you could fill out your brackets? Come on..I know there are quite a few out there. I don’t have a computer at my job, so I couldn’t do that at work, but I thought about skipping work. I didn’t, though. I have to save up those days for something good..like lack of sleep.

Since March Madness is the only thing on my mind this week, I thought about trying something. How about creating a tournament and crowning the best show on television? And how about letting you..the readers..decide on what the best show is? Sound good? I know I probably have about two or three people reading this, so we will see how it works out. But I have set up a bracket of 32 TV shows and seeded them. How? I will get to that later. So keep reading.

This week I remembered why I hate ‘American Idol’ so much! Now I love the show, but I HATE that American is stupid! The bottom three this week was Ace, Lisa, and Melissa. My predictions were..and pretty clear the worst..Melissa, Kevin, and Bucky. Yes..Lisa and Ace didn’t do their best, but they are better than Bucky and Kevin! Thank goodness that Melissa went home. I knew she barely got into the finals anyways, but I figured Bucky or Kevin would go first. It just proves that you can’t underestimate the power of all the pre-teen girls out there!

Nothing much else to say. I’ve been busy trying to catch up on my TV shows this week. I had about 4 recaps to do. Actually, I did three. This week’s ‘O.C.’ episode will have to wait as my birthday was yesterday (Thursday, March 16) and I was gone for much of the day and night. Oh..feel free to send me your gifts, though. I will accept them late.

Anyways lets get to the week that was at IPTV and don’t forget to read until the end to do your part in crowning the Television Champion!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“Instead of an apology, he was beboppin’ and scattin’ all over the place.”George

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. The Usual Suspects I!!

Mathan Erhardt missed ‘Scrubs’ last week. I watched it! HA! However, I don’t remember it now. Anyways he does talk about ‘The Shield’, ‘The Oscars’, ‘The Boondocks’, ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’, ’24’, ‘Lost’, ‘Sons & Daughters’, ‘Black. White.’, and ‘The Unit’. He talks more about ‘Black. White.’ and asks you..”if you had a show, would you rather it be on The WB or UPN.” Obviously, The WB as more of its shows will be carried over to the new CW network in my opinion. But what do you think?!

DeeDee runs down the top 12 of ‘American Idol’ and does some song predictions for this week as well. Was she right? Read to find out!

Sarah Quigley has been watching the same shows for years now! And she won’t change! So she comments a little bit on ‘Survivor’ and why she will continue to watch it this season!

Steve Murray brings you the first preview of ‘The Sopranos’, in honor of it’s new season. The first character that is being previewed..the big guy..Tony!

Matt Basilo is not getting life insurance, because he has no money! He also talks about ’24’, ‘Survivor’, ‘The O.C.’, ‘The Simpsons’, and ‘Family Guy’!

Dora Malone is happy that ‘Survivor’ is off for two weeks due to college basketball! That means she is free as well. What? You don’t recap 4 shows a week like me? Oh..she’s going to California for Spring Break! Damn her! Is it bad that I still go on Spring Break when I’ve graduated from college? Didn’t think so either. Back to Dora. She tells you her top five players on ‘Survivor’ EVER!

Patrick Gilchriest stretches out his discussion of the last ‘Survivor’ episode since it will be a few weeks until we get a new one. So he talks about one of the tribes this week and will handle the other tribe next week. Check out Part 1 of episode 6 of ‘Survivor’!

Kevin Wong talks about the difference between the gameshows of the past and the gameshows today. You just don’t have “whammies” on TV anymore and that’s a shame! Kevin also has random thoughts on shows he watched this week as well!

Recaps a.k.a. The Usual Suspects II!!

Bob Reiss had three episodes of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ again this week! He has recaps of episode #18, episode #19, and episode #20!

I had three shows to recap this week. Kevin has ‘American Idol’ handled. So that means I have a recap of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, last week’s episode of ‘The O.C.’, and the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II! The Challenge is getting close to the end, so check that out before it goes. And this week’s episode of ‘The O.C.’ should be up soon, if not already. Depends on how good my birthday party was! HA!

Romo and Rob Purchase combined forces to recap ’24’ again! The party NEVER stops up there!

Kevin Wong had two shows this week! Both on the SAME night! He recaps the singing on ‘American Idol’ and the racing on ‘The Amazing Race 9’!

Celebrities a.k.a. Eliza and That OTHER Guy!!

Murtz and former ‘Survivor’ Eliza, comment on last week’s episode of ‘Survivor’. But since it’s the last new episode for a few weeks..you might as well go back and read it again! Enjoy! Oh..and do you think Eliza will kill me if I told her that I have Syracuse losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament? Yeah..me too.

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…”what do you think about ‘The Real World’ on MTV?” And here are the results:

I have LOVED every season! – 2
I LIKE the OLDER seasons over the NEWER ones! – 3
I LIKE the NEWER seasons over the OLDER ones! – 2
I think they all have SUCKED! – 2
I don’t have cable! – 1

WOW! This has to be the most difference of opinion for any poll I have done. It was pretty even in all five choices. However, it seems that people like the older seasons over the newer seasons. Of course, this was so close..that may not mean much. What does this mean, though? Well..’The Real World’ is a show that EVERYONE has an opinion on and it’s usually different from the person next to you. Some love it, some hate it, some used to love it but don’t now, and some have just gotten into it. WOW!

Now for this week’s question. Well..actually it is a series of polls and not really a question at all. What am I talking about? You can either go here now, if you can’t wait any longer. But you may want to keep reading and then go to the polls later. It’s almost time for YOU to help crown a champion!

Time to Talk a.k.a. YOU Decide the BEST Show on Television!!

Okay..you’ve made it to the end of this column. Time to reward you or maybe not. But YOU do get a chance to decide what the best show on television is! How? Glad you asked. I have chosen 32 shows. Just like college basketball, I’m sure some fans will complain to me about why their favorite show is not in the tournament. I couldn’t include every show, because that would take too long. What I did is take the best shows based on what people watch as far as ratings and added in a bit of what some of the writers here picked for the best shows on TV in 2005. Remember that feature? Yeah..I added that into the mix and narrowed the list down to 32 shows. I then split up the shows and picked the top ten based on ratings and public opinion. I took the other 20 shows and just mixed them up. I assigned a certain seed to each show. It was basically random, but I adjusted them a bit, if I thought that two shows were too good to be facing off in the first round. I tried to make this all pretty even, but I know that some will disagree. That’s okay. I want to hear your opinions on it. I even came up with a neat little bracket. We all love brackets this time of year, so here you go.

Best Show on Television Bracket

Now that you have seen the bracket, it’s time for the first round to begin. This is how it will work. I will use my weekly poll to have a series of polls in one post. All 16 first round matchups are in the same post this week. The polls are up, so you can begin to vote. Pick the better show out of each of the 16 matchups. Whichever show gets the most votes from each of the matchups..gets to move onto the next round. We will have a round a week. That means this will last past March and well into April. But that’s okay. It’s March now and it’s March Madness time!

Now my only worry is that there won’t be enough votes for this tournament. So I need everyone to tell their friends about this and get as many people to vote as you can. Support your favorite shows. Vote for them and lets see which show is the best on television! Let the madness begin!!

That’s all I got this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome. Especially anything you have to say on this tournament. I want to hear it!

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
