Rasslin Roundtable: WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event

The Cutting Edge – Edge interview segment with Mick Foley

PK: Edge will ask a few questions, Foley will make some wise comments back, then a brawl.

Matthew Michaels: This should be fun, and I’d kick off the show with it (although, something tells me Vinny Mac will be in THAT segment). Foley’s one of the best talkers in the biz and a great, recognizable “ambassador” for pro wrestling. Edge is a smarmy, hated heel. Expecting lots of passion here.

Eric Szulczewski: Why are we predicting an interview segment? Are we expecting some kind of impromptu match coming out of this? Well, we might have one. Edge and Lita versus Foley and…oh, hell, who? The Tit Brigade is fully occupied, unless it’s My Beautiful and Beloved making her post-DWTS appearance or, God help us, Kristal. I definitely don’t want to see that, but it’s possible.

David Brashear: Edge is going to wind up attacking Foley, but I think that this time Mick’s going to get the better of the encounter.

Jeremy Lambert: I think Foley will announce that he is pulling out of the WM Match and his replacement will be Cactus Jack. Cactus is the token hardcore jobber and now would be the best time to bring him back.

Mark Neeley: Not sure why this is in the Roundtable, there is no winner of anything. Anyway, I expect it to just be some taunting or something like with Flair earlier, possibly ending in a brawl broken up by security.

Trish Stratus & Mickie James vs. Candice Michelle & Victoria

PK: Mickie has to turn heel here…just has to. I just hope this feud doesn’t turn our as bad as Tori stalking Sable…
Winners – Vince’s Devils

Matthew Michaels: Here’s where Mickie has to finally turn on Miss. Stratus, possibly setting up a Stacy save?
Winner – Candice & Victoria

Eric Szulczewski: Let’s see, Candice is on the cover of Playboy. Trish and LaJames are ready to do the turn to set up something at WM. They’re running out of time. Therefore, the turn happens here. Now, as to whether it’s going to be during the match or post-match is in question. I’ll say the faces take the match, with Victoria getting pinned, then it blows up.
Winners – Trish and LaJames

David Brashear: And the Trish/Mickie angle continues. I’d say this one ends with Mickie getting pinned and Trish isn’t (or won’t) help her. Mickie blames Trish and things continue to escalate between the two of them.
Winners – Candice Michelle and Victoria

Jeremy Lambert: Whatever, I just hope one them pops out so the FCC will sue WWE.
Winners – Canidce and Victoria with a Mickie heel turn.

Mark Neeley: It’s about time for the heels to get a win, I suppose. Zzzzz
Winner – The arena’s hot dog and cotton candy venders, whose business will sky rocket during this piece of shit.

Booker T. vs. The Boogeyman

PK: Boogeyman will pick up the win, but in return, Booker will end up winning the Last Chance Battle Royal next week.
Winner – Boogeyman

Matthew Michaels: Is this the blow-off to the feud or will it end nefariously in order to set up a Wrestlemania rematch? Here’s hoping Booker joins in on the US Title or MITB fun at Mania, with Boogey relegated to a backstage cameo with Eugene and/or Goldust.
Winner – Booker T

Eric Szulczewski: And the long, slow, prolonged, painful slide of Booker Huffman into irrelevance continues. Him taking the pin is not in question. The only question is whether he still has it in him to carry Marty Wright to something remotely watchable. I think he does, but when it comes to Booker, I’m an optimist.
Winner – The Boogeyman

David Brashear: I’ll say that Boogeyman’s mind games are working. Booker’s totally weirded out, and Boogeyman winds up with the win.
Winner – Boogeyman

Jeremy Lambert: At least this match isn’t taking place at WM. I have no interest in this match at all. Boogeymans longest match has lasted about 30 seconds and Booker just doesn’t have it anymore. I figure Boogeyman will continue with his monster push.
Winner – The Boogeyman

Mark Neeley: Let’s see. Booker has no chance of ending Boogeyman’s unorthadox undefeated streak, and so, yeah, whatever. I don’t care, no one else cares, let’s just be done with the feud.
Winner – Boogeyman

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. JBL – Beer Drinking Contest

PK: Coach knows more then anyone, if Stone Cold is back, he isn’t losing to anyone. Although, don’t forget that JBL blasted Benoit with the beer cooler last night, so expect to see the Rabid Wolverine.
Winner – Austin

Matthew Michaels: Has Stone Cold EVER lost a beer drinking contest? I actually wouldn’t be surprised if HE starts off the show to get the crowd up. I wonder if Vince will fire him for breaking the wellness program guidelines by drinking on the job…
Winner – Stone Cold

Eric Szulczewski: And speaking of slides into irrelevance…I want this to be a trap. I want this to be a trap so badly I can taste it. I want Wife-Beater to enter the ring, grab a Steveweiser, down it (without High-Quality Speaker Boy touching the stuff), and then have Vince come down and bust Wife-Beater for breaking the Drug Policy. This scenario becomes more probable considering what happened on Raw with Michaels. It would also assist High-Quality Speaker Boy in getting back some of his lost heel heat. How much heat would he get from the imbecilic marks (by which I mean anyone who’s still a Wife-Beater fan) for getting their precious Wife-Beater thrown out? It’d help his cause to no end. And who do we get to induct Bret at the HoF? Try Hilary Swank. She’s as overrated as Bret is.
Winner – Any right-thinking individual who never wants to see Wife-Beater ever again

David Brashear: Question. How does beer drinking tie into JBL’s new gimmick? Is he having an APA flashback or something? Anyway, no way Austin loses anything in his big return to WWE programming- not even this.
Winner – Stone Cold Steve Austin

Jeremy Lambert: Beer will be consumed, Stunners will be handed out, and I might just change the channel.
Winner – Austin

Mark Neeley: Austin is going to job on his big return. To JBL. Pssh.
Winner – Stone Cold Steve Austin and, as JBL would call it, his “mediocre life.”

Shane McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels – Street Fight

PK: If HBK wins, then what’s the point of continuing the feud? Shane will pick up the duke, but I would expect plenty of interference…probably from the Spirit Squad.
Winner – Shane

Matthew Michaels: Shawn has to win at Mania to get the ultimate pay-off, and Shane beating HBK is much more realistic than Vince doing so. I’m betting on Vince and maybe others getting involved here, and a fun, long brawl resulting in a McMahon win and post-match beatdown (possibly with the Spirit Squad around to help out).
Winner – Shane O’Mac

Eric Szulczewski: Oh, boy, did they telegraph this one on Raw. Hitting the ShaneTerminator was a big, flashing neon sign saying “Shane’s gonna job”. Shane will do his usual incredible bump job. This should lead to an injury job that will take him out of WM so that he can spend time with Marissa and the expectant sprog. Good for him. And good for this feud as well, since Vince can now be indignant about Michaels injuring his son, which should crank things up a bit without needing to use fake piss.
Winner – Shawn Michaels

David Brashear: I think it would be a mistake for them to give the win to Shane here. Michaels needs a win, but he did get the better of Vince & Shane Monday night, and we know how things usually work for the person who gets the last win before the show…
Winner – Shane McMahon

Jeremy Lambert: Should be a fun match with Shane taking his usual huge bump. The problem could be is that neither man may be able to blade due to being on primetime NBC. Whatever, it should still be a good match.
Winner – Shane McMahon

Mark Neeley: I see Michaels winning this one, as it would be a little pointless for Shane to win and then it is Vince-Michaels at WrestleMania.
Winner – HBK

John Cena & Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio & Kurt Angle

PK: Cena and HHH will work together fine, and I see Orton being a problem for the SD side. Orton will probably walk out, leaving HHH and Cena to pick up the duke.
Winners – HHH & Cena

Matthew Michaels: They can’t let TWO RAW guys beat THREE Smackdown ones, can they? Since it’s looking like HHH vs. Cena will main event Mania, and looking at who’s in this match, I’m gonna have to say RAW will win it. I also feel like Chavo will do a run-in, fighting to the back with Randy and evening things up before RAW gets the win.
Winner – John Cena and HHH

Eric Szulczewski: Does anyone honestly think they’re going to play this seriously? Does anyone believe this match will end with a simple pinfall? Trip and Cena turn on each other, Orton starts beating up Rey-Rey, and Angle stands there in the corner with a bemused expression on his face. As for the result, the person who needs the most cred going into WM has to be Cena (duh), so he’s going to get what they’re claiming to be a pinfall, obviously against Orton.
Winners – Team Raw

David Brashear: Wow! It’s the return of “wacky mismatched tag team partners who hate each other!” I’d say it would be a toss up, but HHH is on Cena’s team…
Winners – John Cena & HHH

Jeremy Lambert: Why do I have no interest in this match? It doesn’t seem like a horrible match on paper but the build for it has been crap. It could also be that I only care about one of the wrestlers in the match, that being Kurt Angle. I figure this match ends in DQ to save face for everyone.
Winners – Nobody

Mark Neeley: This is an awful choice of a main event in my book, a HANDICAPPED match (yeah, they never give away clues that RAW is the top show and SmackDown is the second-rate) featuring the WrestleMania RAW main event vs the SmackDown. This is going to be bad, very bad. Zzzzz
Winner – No contest, or something stupid and lackluster like that.

Wildcard
Will any additional WrestleMania matches be announced, and if so, what?

PK: Well, Paul London won a Fatal 4-Way on Velocity for the #1 Contendership for the Cruiserweight Title, but I doubt they will actually mention that. Maybe they have the Mexicools vs. Gymini vs. Hooliganz vs. Kash/Noble for the #1 Contendership for the Tag Team Titles? Ya right, like they will give time to tag teams.

Matthew Michaels: With Helms hurt the only thing I can see them announcing here is a tag match (MNM vs. Mexicools vs. Hooliganz vs. Noble & Kash, maybe? Although there’s probably just as much of a chance we’ll see Stacy & Torrie vs. Victoria & Candice announced), unless they add a SD competitor or two to the MITB. I DO have a feeling we’ll see Lashley and Finlay brawl around the building throughout the show, however…

Eric Szulczewski: Yes. Definitely Trish/LaJames for the women’s title, and we may get some sort of announcement about the Cruiserweight title and/or the SD tag title, although the latter will have to wait until Shannon Moore arrives.

David Brashear – I’m sure they’ll announce something to help build the show, but I’m not sure exactly what. Mickie challenges Trish for the belt, maybe?

I like Comics, Wrestling, Super Mario Bros & Dead Space. Oh ya, and Scott Pilgrim.
