The Show

Season 7 is chalk full of some classic Simpsons episodes. It stars off with the second part of ‘Who Shot Mr. Burns?’ Although many people were upset at who was the eventual shooter I still think the episode was very solid. The second episode, ‘Radioactive Man,’ could easily be in any fan’s all-time top ten list. “The goggles. They do NOTHING!”

I could pretty much list every single episode and explain why they are memorable episodes but it would start to sound like a broken record.

‘Lisa The Vegetarian’ may be one of the episodes that had the most long lasting impacts. In that a major character changed and it stuck. Normally Lisa episodes are rather “meh” but this one stands as one of the best.

‘Treehouse of Horror VI’ is arguably the best Halloween special. All three of the shorts are classics. The 50-foot eyesores brings a memorable Paul Anka appearance. Willie’s conversion to Freddy Krueger with a rake targeting the kids of Springfield was a great take on the legendary horror franchise. Then 3-D Homer, what can I say about that short? So cool and one of my favourite comedic bits of all time, “Has anyone seen the movie Tron?”

‘King-size Homer’ shows Homer in grand obese glory. ‘Mother Simpson’ brings the heart-felt reunion of Homer and his mom. ‘Team Homer’ is chockfull of great jokes including one of my favourite Apu moments, in regard to the stereotype bowling team: “They begged me to be on that team, begged me!”

‘A Fish Called Selma’ gives audiences something they had been begging for, more Troy McClure. The Planet of the Apes musical CLASSIC! “I love you Dr. Zeus.” ‘Bart on the road’ shows Bart and his pals head to Knoxville to visit the wigsphere. I had two friends who, while on a road trip to the South, actually stop in Knoxville just because of this episode.

’22 short films about Springfield’ is a memorable homage to ‘Pulp Fiction.’ Homerpalooza’, where Homer gets to hang out with the likes of Peter Frampton and Cyprus Hill. So many great episodes. The only “weak” episodes, and by weak I am comparing them to a very solid season, are ‘Sideshow Bob’s last gleaming’ which I found to be lame Sideshow Bob episode, ‘The Simpson’s 138th episode spectacular’ was a clip show, ‘The day the violence died’ had its moments but was overall uneven and ‘Summer of 4 ft. 2’ was a Lisa episode that was ok but not one that I am inclined to ever watch again.

The DVD

Video

The video is in full screen 1.33:1. I had no problems or glitches with the video.

Audio

The audio is shown in Dolby 5.1 surround. It’s also available in Spanish and French. I found the audio to be more than adequate.

Special Features

There is audio commentary on all episodes. The audio commentary is quite funny and illuminating. There are two animation showcases and the ‘A bit from the animators’ where Groening and two others show how they draw episodes. They really shows the thought they put into little aspects, such as where the characters appear in the shot. The times they point out the mistakes is quite funny. There are numerous deleted scenes, which are seamlessly put into the episode. HUGE props for that. The Homer in the third dimension featurette is a must see, very cool. Overall the special features are top notch.
