OVW TV Review for March 18, 2006

Archive

The OVW TV show opened up with Paul Heyman’s greatest character, Osama Rodriguez Alejandro in the back with Aaron “The Idol” Stevens and Beth Phoenix. Idol said things haven’t been going too well for The Idol lately. Stevens said, “last week I lost the OVW TV Title to Seth Skyfire, and do you know whose fault it is?” Beth said, “yes, Idol. It’s YOUR fault!” Beth said Idol needed to be a man and stand up to Shelly. Idol got really mad and blamed Beth, because Beth brought Shelly into their relationship. Idol told Beth she better go rip apart that “sea hag” Shelly. Beth said, “Oh, sure, whatever you say, Idol.” The split is happening. So Beth heads out the door, but Shelly is waiting for Beth. The next 30 seconds saw a fight that was far from the typical cat fight. These two brawled and threw some heavy duty punches at each other. Very intense fight, even better on tv than watching on the screen at the Davis Arena. Referees and more people tried to break them up. Osama is the highlight of every show he’s on, and is a fantastic character that causes all the commotion in the world and keeps the show flowing.

The OVW music open aired.

WWE Monday Night Raw Diva Maria Kannellis introduced new OVW TV Champion Seth Skyfire. The interview was interrupted by OVW Champion Brent Albright, who wanted a Title vs Title match, but the challenge was interrupted by Aaron “The Idol” Stevens. So now Skyfire is standing in the ring against Stevens and Albright. Idol threatens to jump over the guardrail and take away Seth’s sexy little girlfriend in the front row (the one who was crying on camera when Jeter and Cage cut Skyfire’s hair). Skyfire jumps Stevens, and then does well against Stevens and Albright until the heels start pounding on Skyfire. Albright starts viciously and mercilessly whipping Seth with the heavy duty leather strap. Chet The Jet comes out, but he falls victim to Albright and Stevens, who nail a sweet Double DDT on Chet. Albright goes back to whipping Seth, until CM Punk runs out and the heels run away. Excellent angle.

We’re back from commercial, and Osama is reporting from outside Danny Davis’s office. Tonight, it will be Idol getting a 5 minute chance to regain his title against Skyfire. After the 5 minute chance, it becomes a tag team match. Idol and Albright against Skyfire and Chet. But wait! Osama informs us Chet is going to the Jewish Hospital down the road, and now Albright and Stevens are in Davis’s office claiming the only substitute they will go for will be CM Punk. At one point in the promo Osama actually said “Chet is going to the Jewish Hospital. He’s not even Jewish. I’m half Palestinian. I can see them from a mile away!” The fact Paul Heyman is writing this show, and that line was televised shows why OVW is now such must-see tv. Heyman is doing fantastic work here, and Osama is the best character out there.

(1) THE SPIRIT SQUAD (Kenny Doane and Johnny Jeter and Mikey Mondo) DEFEATED ELIJAH BURKE, KC JAMES, AND ROADKILL. <>P>This was an exciting match live, and even better on television. Mikey pinned Elijah after help from Mitch (Nick Mitchell) and Nicky (Nemeth). Johnny Jeter hit a kick in this match that I can’t believe Elijah ever got up from. Roadkill was super over.

In the commercial break, we meet Nigel Serrowd, who is the DSW announcer. He was really very good. Not as nice to look at as Michelle McCool, but Michelle has 40 DDD’s staring at the camera. Nigel hosts the OVW Live Event updates, and says, “My name is Nigel, and yes that really is my name!” He’s very good.

Back from commercial, we have the local pizza chain with their sponsorship, and then a surprisingly super match.

(2) GENE SNITSKY PINNED MIKEY BATTS IN SNITSKY’S BEST TELEVISION MATCH ANYWHERE.

Batts ran into the ring and jumped on Snitsky. The story here is that Batts, who has had similar matches with Da Beast and Tytus, fights guys much much bigger than him. Batts is about 5’5”, but fights like he’s fighting for his very life. This match actually told a great story, with Batts almost beating Snitsky, but getting caught and pinned. Everyone was convinced Batts was going to win. You wouldn’t believe Snitsky could have such a good match.

In the back, Robbie Dawber is going to interview Seth Skyfire, who is in the doctor’s office. The cameraman or director reminds Dawber to introduce himself, and you know what’s coming here. “Hi, I’m Robbie Dawber,” and he gets slapped. The camera goes into the doctor’s office, and Skyfire says he doesn’t even know Punk. The Highlanders come in and do a crazy promo about their match coming up, and it was hysterical. Then, they leave, and when Skyfire turns around, Punk is standing there. Punk says that if Skyfire beats Idol in their 5 minute match, things could get even more interesting tonight.

THE HIGHLANDERS DEFEATED DEUCE SHADE AND DOMINO (with Cherry) WITH OSAMA RODRIGUEZ ALEJANDRO DOING COMMENTARY THAT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD.

A very funny match, only because the match served as a backdrop for the real star of the match, Osama Rodriguez Alejandro. You may think he was overexposed by reading this review, but everything this guy does is new and original and classic material. Osama kept talking about running for Dictator of Los Kentuckos, and how he’ll legalize street violence, gambling, and prostitution. The closeups of Osama stealing Al Snow’s mic were priceless.

Nigel, who reminded us that really is his name, was back for Live Events in this commercial break. I think he was good again, but being a male, I vote for Michelle McCool. Anyway, Nigel promotes the upcoming shows and is joined by Tank Tolland, who promises to pound his former partner Chad the next show Chad shows up at. This was a really strong promo, because they showed the footage from last week, and also because Tank was so intense, this was so much better than anything he did in WWE. They should bring him back like this. Tank said Chad has been ducking him, and hasn’t shown up “at the gym, at the tanning bed, even at his own boyfriend’s house.” Good strong promo.

SETH SKYFIRE HELD ONTO THE OVW TV TITLE IN HIS FIVE MINUTE “SPECIAL CHANCE” MATCH WITH AARON “THE IDOL” STEVENS.

They spilled outside the ring, and started fighting right in front of Skyfire’s girlfriend. Idol blew her a kiss, and she slapped him. Skyfire started throwing punches and kicks at Stevens, and got him in the ring to lock on an Ultimo Dragon style reverse sleeper. But Albright ran out and the tag team match started. Albright and Idol set up a table, and were going to put Skyfire through the table when Punk ran out. The wild brawl was on.

AARON “THE IDOL” STEVENS AND OVW CHAMPION BRENT ALBRIGHT DEFEATED CM PUNK AND SETH SKYFIRE IN A WILD BRAWL.

This was a really heated match. You can tell everyone is into this feud, both the Albright vs Punk feud and the Idol vs Skyfire feud. Albright got the most heat I’ve seen in the Davis Arena, even more than when Jeter was champion, when he was beating the tar out of Skyfire. It ended up with Punk and Albright fighting over the leather strap and doing an amazing superplex through the table. This was taped three days before Saturday Night’s Main Event in case you’re wondering. Anyway, then Skyfire hit an upside down flip on Stevens off the top rope. The referee was outside the ring and was calling for someone to help Punk and Albright, so Beth ran in out of nowhere and hit the most awesome spear or gore on Skyfire, it looked like she broke every single one of his ribs. But this brought out Shelly, and the fight between the two vixens was hot and heavy. Yes, you get the gratuitous panty shots, but these two fight and it’s a heavy brawl. They throw full contact punches and you can hear the punches and slaps connect. Referees ran out to separate Beth and Shelly. Idol hit the Idolizer on Skyfire for the pin. Idol stood in the middle of the ring, and we got to see Beth and Shelly being separated, Punk and Albright unconscious, and Idol standing over the TV Champion. Very powerful image. Great match and super exciting.

They announced the two big main events that will take place this Wednesday (March 22nd) at the Davis Arena (4400 Shepherdsville Road in Louisville) at the TV Tapings. It will be Beth vs Shelly one on one; and a One Fall Match with both the OVW Championship and OVW TV Championship in jeopardy as Albright vs Punk vs Idol vs Skyfire takes place with a title unification possible. All four men legal at the same time. Directions are available at www.ovwrestling.com, and so are the monthly OVW DVDs and videotapes. The January series features Brent Albright and CM Punk continuing their feud but in a really unique way as they were teaming in matches to see who could make the opponents tap out quicker. Plus, the birth of The Spirit Squad. Also the introduction of Deuce Shade and Dice Domino as a team. And Aaron “The Idol” Stevens, with some provocative moments involving Beth and Shelly, takes control of the OVW Television Championship. The February series features the Brent Albright heel turn and the most famous OVW show in history, the one with Matt Cappotelli’s farewell speech. Chris Cage and The Miz take over the tag team division. The tournament for the OVW Title starts, and both Osama and Shelly’s big pushes really take off as the Big Lalo (Osama) for Dictator Campaign takes off, and Shelly falls in love with Paul “The Pirate” Birchall.
