Antony and the Johnsons – I am a Bird Now

Link: Antony and the Johnsons

The Inside Pulse:
As much as I hate using cliché review words I have to for this album. This album is haunting. When you first give it a listen the vocals catch you off guard as they’re very different from most other bands out there. After you get past the first few strange tracks and get a feel for how beautiful his voice really is this album is incredible. From beginning to end it takes you on a wonderful emotional ride. It’s wonderful and I’ve listened to it a dozen times since receiving the album. It’s not perfect but it speaks to me right now and that’s all I ask for.

Positives:
It’s rare to find so much emotional energy in an album these days. Unique, but spectacular vocals. Extremely visual lyrics.

Negatives:
Pretentious at times, vocals will most definitely not appeal to everyone

Cross-breed:
Rufus Wainwright and one of those plastic bird whistles you fill with water.

Reason to buy:
I’m not entirely sure this is worth buying without giving it a listen first. Antony and the Johnsons take you on a wonderful journey but if you can’t take his voice you’ll want to get off asap.
