The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

The madness is in full swing now! Is your bracket totally busted yet? Mine is doing okay. Not too bad really. Okay..Bradley really screwed me over by beating Kansas since that was one of my final four teams on some of my brackets. And crap..did LSU just beat Duke? Yep..well..damn..there goes another final four team and final two team at that. Other than that..looking pretty good as long as Boston College, Connecticut, and Georgetown all win tomorrow..I’ll be good. Then..Texas needs to beat LSU and UCLA needs to beat Memphis. I’ll be good to go then. Of course, the opposite of what I just said will probably happen and I will be crying next week!

Enough college basketball..lets talk about the MADNESS of the TV Tournament. What show is the best on television? YOU get to decide. The first round is over and the tournament continues. Keep voting. More information about the tournament is at the end!

I would just like to thank America. You FINALLY got it right! Kevin is gone from ‘American Idol’! AND Bucky was in the bottom three. Great job America. Keep it up!

And with nothing else to say really..lets just begin this. Lets take a look at the week that was here at IPTV!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“I didn’t know she had a pony. How was I to know she had a pony? Who figures an immigrant’s going to have a pony? Do you know what the odds are on that? I mean, in all the pictures I saw of immigrants on boats coming into New York harbor, I never saw one of them sitting on a pony. Why would anybody come here if they had a pony? Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country? It doesn’t make sense.. am I wrong?”Jerry

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. You Know Who!!

Mathan Erhardt doesn’t watch ‘The Sopranos’ like me. But I don’t have HBO. He just boycotts the show. And he wants ‘Lost’ and ‘Smallville’ to stop airing repeats like everyone else. He also comments on ‘Hustle’, ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’, ‘Scrubs’, ‘The Loop’, ‘My Name is Earl’, ‘The Office’, ‘Big Love’, ’24’, and ‘Black.White.’ He REALLY loves ‘Black.White.’ and ‘Hustle’..by the way. So you better check those shows out!

Sarah Quigley is Mrs. Webster this week. She talks about ‘The Apprentice’ and words that popped into her head, while watching it. She then defines them in terms of the show. I’ll be waiting for her first dictionary in stores by the summer!

Matt Basilo has a shorter column this week, because nothing he watches was on really. He talks about ’24’ and ‘The O.C.’. He also checks in with his thoughts on the ‘South Park’/Issac Hayes WAR!

DeeDee hates this part of ‘American Idol’ like I do. She was talking about last week’s episode and the bottom three, which was just retarded! Check out her thoughts. Lucky for us..things got back to being right this week.

Farah Syed says the theme song from ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ is the best EVER! And talks about TV shows and their theme songs and their importance. Ta na-na-na, na-na-na-na., wee-ooo-eee-ooo. Dee-dee-doo-doo! Doo-doo-doo-doo, wee-ooo-eee-ooo and “California..here I come!”..indeed!

Kevin Wong presents to you his “Top Ten Movies on TV” list! These are movies that are always seem to be on TV and always seem to be a good flick to pass the time with! He also comments some on what he watched this past week!

Patrick Gilchriest finishes his discussion of the last new episode two weeks ago. He talks about the other tribe this week. And next week..he has predictions, because there is still not a new show until next week!

Recaps a.k.a. The Same Plus Some New Stuff!!

Trevor MacKay has a new episode of ‘Invasion’! Just before another break!

I recap three shows this week again! I tried to catch up with ‘The O.C.’, but it didn’t work out. First up is last week’s episode of ‘The O.C.’. And, of course, I have your ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge’ needs as well!

Romo and Rob Purchase team to do ’24’ again this week!

Steve Murray has the job of recapping the new season of ‘The Sopranos’. He has episode #1 and episode #2

Kevin Wong has his usual double goodness of ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Amazing Race 9’! His Tuesday night schedule is always FULL!

We finally get some TV on DVD reviews! We have four this week!

Romo has three this week by himself! He reviews the seventh season of The Simpsons, and two SNL shows. He has Saturday Night Live – The Best of Alec Baldwin and Saturday Night Live – The Best of David Spade!

Tom Pandich has a horrible, horrible MTV show! It’s the The Andy Milonakis Show: The Complete First Season! Sorry Tom..I’m sorry you had to sit through that!

Celebrities a.k.a. A NEW Person!!

Murtz and Eliza are off again this week as still no new ‘Survivor’ episode. But no worries as we do have something to put here. What is it?

Let me introduce you to Jim, former ‘Apprentice’ of the Donald. And he has his thoughts of the latest episode of the new season, which is not doing well on Mondays!

Time to Talk a.k.a. YOU Continue to Decide the Best Show on Television!!

Okay..the first round has ended in the tournament to crown the “Best Show on Television”! And I got close to 100 votes! Pretty good. Glad to see the turnout was there. And hope it continues until the end.

Now lets get to the first round results. It was pretty interesting. Things went almost according to plan, but there were some “upsets”. Lets get to the final results of round one:

#1 – ‘Lost’ – 87
#32 – ‘Reba’ – 9

#16 – ‘Scrubs’ – 69
#17 – ‘Six Feet Under’ – 26

#8 – ‘The Apprentice’ – 47
#25 – ‘The O.C.’ – 43

#9 – ‘Law & Order’ – 76
#24 – ‘NCIS’ – 16

#4 – ‘The Sopranos’ – 55
#29 – ‘House’ – 40

#13 – ‘Smallville’ – 72
#20 – ‘The Real World’ – 22

#5 – ‘Survivor’ – 61
#28 – ‘Gilmore Girls’ – 32

#12 – ‘My Name is Earl’ – 49
#21 – ‘The Simpsons’ – 48

#2 – ’24’ – 83
#31 – ‘E.R.’ – 12

#15 – ‘Veronica Mars’ – 48
#18 – ‘Two and Half Men’ – 44

#7 – ‘CSI’ – 43
#26 – ‘The Office’ – 55

#10 – ‘Desperate Housewives’ – 37
#23 – ‘The Amazing Race’ – 58

#3 – ‘American Idol’ – 52
#30 – ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ – 43

#14 – ‘Numb3rs’ – 24
#19 – ‘Prison Break’ – 69

#6 – ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ – 64
#27 – ‘Without a Trace’ – 30

#11 – ‘How I Met Your Mother’ – 70
#22 – ‘Commander in Chief’ – 24

So what did I think about the results? Well..clearly ‘Lost’ and ’24’ are the shows to beat in this thing. They won the first round by a very wide margin! Despite ‘American Idol’ being the best show as far as ratings go..people don’t seem to like it as much as you would think. It barely beat ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ and it faces ‘Prison Break’ in the Sweet 16. I wouldn’t be surprised to see ‘Prison Break’ beat ‘AI’ in the next round.

Now for the “upsets”. There were two of them really. ‘The Office’ beat ‘CSI’, which was a little shocking to me. ‘The Office’ has a good following, but it was going up against a VERY popular show. Although, some of CSI’s popularity may have been lost lately. The other “upset” was ‘The Amazing Race’ over ‘Desperate Housewives’. This was a bigger margin than what I thought, but again the second season of this show has not been as good as the first. It’s funny that the two “upset” shows could face off with each other. They have to get past some new entries into this tournament first, though.

And there were also some close races. ‘My Name is Earl’ and ‘The Simpsons’ went back and forth. It was crazy, but in the end Earl barely beat Homer! The same thing happened with ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘Two and a Half Men’. It was back and forth until Veronica won out! ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘The O.C.’ looked close, but it wasn’t really. ‘The Apprentice’ lead from the start and ‘The O.C.’ could never recover!

Now as far as the second round of this tournament. It has changed a little bit. I knew I probably left out some shows that people thought should be in this tournament. I asked YOU what you thought and some of you called me out on a few things. So I have decided to add 6 shows to this tournament. They got support from a few people and I must admit that I screwed up on leaving some of these out. So the shows that get added to this tournament are ‘The Shield’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘Family Guy’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Rescue Me’, and ‘Entourage’. They were randomly given a number and placed into the bracket to face what I considered to be the “bottom 6” seeds that one in the first round. The “top 10” seeds have moved into the “Sweet 16” round of this tournament. They get a bye this week. The new shows and the “bottom 6” will faceoff to decide which 6 will advance to the “Sweet 16”. Here is a look at the new bracket for this tournament:

Best Show on TV

Everyone happy now? Probably not, but I did my best. It’s now up to YOU to decide which shows should move on. You have 6 polls to vote on. Decide which show is better and next week we begin the “Sweet 16”! So VOTE now! Tell your friends! Everyone spread the madness!

That’s all I got this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome. Especially anything you have to say on this tournament. I want to hear it!

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
