The O.C. – Recap – Episode 3-18

Archive

I’m late again with this recap. Blame it on March Madness. I have seen a LOT of basketball these last few weeks. Both on TV and LIVE, which is why this recap is late this week. I was at a basketball tournament on Thursday and been very busy this weekend doing as little as possible. That takes a lot of work and effort. I have a LOT to watch on my TiVo, but here you go. This season is getting REALLY good..so enjoy the ride! Better late than never!

The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 18) – “The Undertow”

We open up to see Seth and Ryan playing video games. Summer is there too. And Sadie. Summer wants Seth to prepare for his 2nd Brown University interview. Sadie brings snacks from all religions. Seth just beat Ryan and wants to beat him again. Sadie wants to play Seth, though. Summer laughs as she says that Playstation was his best friend before she and Ryan. Seth finally agrees and they play, while Ryan and Summer go into the other room to get something.
Summer talks to Ryan about the Marissa thing. She is glad that he is moving on. Eventhough Marissa is her best friend..she won’t act weird towards Ryan now. And she says that Sadie is the opposite of Marissa, which is good. Ryan doesn’t know about that statement. They walk back into the living room and Sadie just beat Seth at the game to the surprise of everyone. She IS the “anti-Coop”. They all have an awkward moment about whether Sadie is Ryan’s new girlfriend. Ryan gets saved by the bell as the doorbell rings.

Ryan goes to get the door and it’s Jess. She has been living with Ryan’s brother, Trey, out in Las Vegas for the past few months. But now she is back in town and she has a belated birthday present from Trey. She gives it to him. Sadie interrupts them and Jess leaves. Sadie wants to know who that was, but he says it was no one. Sadie goes back to the living room as Ryan looks at the present from Trey.

“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”

We come back to Ryan opening the present and it’s a toy car..the Matchbook kind. Seth finds Ryan and wants to know the story on the present. Ryan says it’s a long story and an “inside” story between him and Trey. Doesn’t want to explain it either. Here comes Kirsten and says she tried to get Seth to play with those cars all the time. She wonders where he got this. Ryan tells her that Trey gave it to him via a friend. Seth reminds his mother of who Jess is. Took too many drugs and floated in a pool. Kirsten asks how Trey is doing and Ryan doesn’t know and he doesn’t want to know. He says Trey is out of his life and doesn’t want him in it now.

Volchok is outside of Marissa’s house and Marissa catches him. Volchok gives Marissa back the watch that she gave to him. She gave it to him to get him off of Ryan. Sell it for money as bribe. He had a change of heart, though. She is a little surprised. Volchok says he will be at the beach later. Marissa tells him to not count on her being there.

Seth comes out of his interview and Summer is waiting. It seemed to go over well. Both are excited. They hug. Seth runs off and Taylor sees this. She is SO happy as well. She wants to celebrate with them, but Summer wants to do it alone..with just Seth. Her dad is out of town and the house is to herself. Taylor is “picking up what’s she dropping”. She understands. She figures they will have some sex, but Summer knows different. Taylor didn’t know that they had “lost the magic”. She says that Summer should have come to her sooner. But don’t panic or anything. Summer doesn’t understand. Taylor says that Summer should be worried about all the new girls at college that could catch Seth’s eye.

Summer: “Um..I’ll have you know Taylor..that I’m like 5 levels hotter than him!”

Taylor: “Summer..the libido does not listen to logic. At this age, men are driven by this reptilian force..spread the seed..spread the seed…”

Summer stops the madness right there and says they will be fine, and they have a healthy sex life. Taylor says great, but if Summer needs to talk..she’s here to listen.

Sadie visits Ryan. She sees Ryan with the toy car. He says it’s a long story with his brother and doesn’t really want to tell Sadie. Sadie says that’s fine, but she is ready to listen..if he wants to tell it. Ryan is not so sure about that at the moment. Sadie leaves.

Dr. Griffin comes to see Sandy. Dr. Griffin tells Sandy that there has been some complaints about Matt from the board. Rumors about him having parties and stuff. They want him off of the project. Sandy can’t do that. Dr. Griffin then says that the board can’t go through with the project. Either Matt is off or no deal.

Seth and Ryan talk. Ryan tells Seth that he needs to know if Trey is okay. And if that means dealing with Jess..then he might have to do that. Seth says that Ryan is at a crossroads here. He can either dwell on the past and go see Jess or call Sadie and look to the future.

Marissa is at the beach..imagine that. She has the watch on that Volchok gave her back. She picks up her phone and we get a flashback with her calling Volchok in the past and him coming to the beach. She doesn’t do it this time, though. She just leaves.

And she ends up at Matt’s house? Marissa tells him that she is all alone and going crazy. Matt says that he is going out of town, so she could stay at his house for the weekend. She likes that idea.

Summer and Seth are alone and watching the trilogy of Blade movies. Summer wants to forget about the movies, though, and go upstairs. Seth doesn’t even know she is trying to make a move. Okay..he did, but was caught off-guard by her approach this time.

Seth: “Normally..you just throw me down and do your thing, but I can adjust!”

Now Seth tries to continue what she started, but Summer stops it. Too late. And Seth acts like a total idiot. Time to watch the third movie!

Ryan calls Sadie. He is coming over, but has to make a stop first. Be there in 20 minutes. He stops at Jess’s house. He wants to know how Trey is. Jess is ready to undress as usual. Jess tells Ryan that Trey misses him. Jess has a new boyfriend named Jim. Jess wants Ryan to stay, but Ryan says that they were never friends. Jess understands this. She tells him that Trey is trying to stay out of trouble by dealing blackjack in Vegas. She wants him to stay a little longer. She has more to tell him about Trey. Of course, she has to undress a little more first as we go to a break!

We come back to more flashbacks. Ryan is punching a punching bag and we get “anger” flashbacks. All dealing with his brother. Awesome! Kirsten walks in on him. She wants to know what is going on here. It’s not girl problems really. It’s about Trey and Jess. Ryan is trying to save her from Trey or something like that. Kirsten says that they love Marissa, because she’s family. She has been through a lot and Ryan got pulled into it. Ryan says that some of it was his fault, but he understands what she is saying. Kirsten then tells Ryan that they LOVE Sadie. Ryan says he is trying not to screw things up.

Kirsten: “Just because a girl is not tied to some train tracks..doesn’t mean that she should be ignored!”

Ryan says that Jess is trying to move on and get away from Trey. That’s fine says Kirsten, but it shouldn’t affect Ryan’s life.

Sandy knocks on Matt’s door and finds that Marissa is there. He is shocked..SHOCKED I say! She tells him that she didn’t want to be in the trailer all alone. Sandy says she should have come to their house. They are family. Sandy understands that things are not good with her and Ryan, but Marissa doesn’t need to be here. He tells her to go home.

Summer is ordering some pancakes. Taylor sneaks up her and talks about short straws. Summer has no clue what’s she talking about.

Taylor: “You know..after the sex and everyone is hungry, but no one wants to get the takeout..short straw gets the food!”

Summer agrees and tries to play along with her, but that doesn’t work. Taylor sees right through her lie.

Taylor: “Oh my god..you didn’t have sex at all..did you?!”

Summer (To the Waitress): “ARE MY PANCAKES READY YET?!?!”

Taylor: “Your lips aren’t chapped, there’s no love bites on your neck, your voice is not at all hoarse from all the screaming..”

Summer’s pancakes are ready and she runs out of there like her butt was on fire! Taylor says she can help Summer.

Ryan meets up with Sadie and they finish some painting on the house. We find out that Ryan never came to see Sadie the other night. He got tied up with something. He makes it up to her by saying he will buy her dinner.

Marissa is all alone at her trailer. She goes to call Summer, but she doesn’t answer.

Sandy and Kirsten talk. Kirsten says that Matt doesn’t know any better..about Marissa staying at his house. She suggests that Sandy give him some great advice of his. Seth and Ryan walk in on Sandy and Kirsten hugging. Seth tells them to get a room.

Sandy: “Hey..count your blessings. Kids with affectionate parents go on to become better adjusted sexually as adults.”

Seth: “I know..I meant get a room as in my room and do it in front of me!”

Ryan gets a call and it’s Jess. She’s in trouble. Ryan is off to save her to the dismay of Kirsten. He says he will call if he needs help.

Marissa and Summer talk at “The Bait Shop”. Marissa says that her and Ryan never had those kind of problems. She says that “the more unemotionally involved you are..the more you end up wanting each other”. She says this as she notices that Volchok is there as well and looks at him..imagine that. Time to go!

Ryan goes to Jess’s house and it’s Jess’s boyfriend. She just broke up with him and now he’s stalking her. Here he comes and Ryan tells him to go away. He does and Ryan tells Jess that he won’t be back. He asks if she is okay and she says she is. She also says that she is trying to change. Ryan doesn’t have to stay. Ryan goes to leave and finds a picture of Trey that Jess has. You can tell this brings back a lot of memories for Ryan. Time for another break!

It’s the next morning and it looks like Ryan stayed at Jess’s house. She tells him to stay and eat. Nothing happened last night. Jess gets a call and it’s Trey. He wants to talk to Ryan after she tells him that she is sitting with Ryan. Ryan doesn’t want to talk to him at the moment, though. She hangs up the phone and tells Ryan that Trey wants her to return. Ryan thought she was moving on. She says she is trying, but it’s hard. Ryan can’t babysit her anymore. He suggests that she call some of her friends from USC.

Sandy and Seth talk now. Seth wonders if him and Kirsten had any problems in the sex department. Sandy says no way.

Sandy: “Your mother was a firecracker! My buddies used to say..if you see that mailtruck rocking..don’t come a knocking!”

Kirsten comes in and tells them that Ryan didn’t sleep here last night. Sadie joins them..with bagels! Yay! She wants to know where Ryan is and Kirsten lies badly. Sandy and Kirsten leave. Sadie thinks that Ryan got a call from Jess and it was urgent. That required him to stay the night. Seth says that is not confirmed. Sadie says Seth doesn’t have to protect Ryan. She doesn’t know if Ryan and her are right for each other. She says he has a lot of “intense” issues that he has to deal with and Sadie doesn’t know if she is ready for all of that. Seth tells her to be patient.

Seth: “I think Ryan really likes you and if you hang in there..you two will settle into a super laid back, boring relationship. You got to cut the guy some slack. He just got out of a two year long drama-fest with Marissa, and the one time that he tried to date someone normal..she turned out to be my dead grandfather’s illegitimate daughter. So..you know how that goes!”

Sadie doesn’t know about all that, and tells Seth to not tell Ryan that they talked.

Taylor comes to visit Summer and wants her to come to school later to talk about a prom theme with another girl. She finally agrees.

Sandy lectures Matt about what the board said and about Marissa at his house. Sandy says the board is waiting for him to screw up and he is doing it. Matt says that the board will take him down no matter what. Matt wants Sandy to call them and tell them that Matt is still on the project.

Taylor tricks Summer AND Seth into coming to school on a Sunday. She is here to discuss the problems with “Sethimer”. They say there is no trouble with them. Her dad used to be a sex therapist, so she knows what to do. She tells them to touch each other and gaze into each other’s eye. They don’t feel a thing, though. That is bad according to Taylor.

Ryan and Sadie eat at the same restaurant everyone eats at. Ryan gets a call and it’s Jess’s friend. There is a party at Jess’s house. Everyone from USC is there and her ex-boyfriend, Jim, is coming and about to go on a rampage. Her friend says that Jess will only talk to Ryan. She’s drunk and locked herself in the pool house. He says okay and appears to be on his way. Sadie doesn’t understand why he has to, but she knows that something is pulling him towards Jess. Sadie tells him to deal with whatever he is going through and then find her when he is done. She leaves.

Marissa is back at “The Bait Shop”. She is looking around and Volchok says he is right here. She says she wasn’t looking for him, though. Volchok knows that she is lonely and says he can help. She says she is doing just fine on her own.

Ryan ends up at Jess’s house and talks to Jess. She is freaking out and wants to be with Ryan now. He knows how to take care of Jess. She begins to kiss him on his neck and Ryan stops her. Jim, Jess’s former boyfriend, catches them and Ryan says that the only problem he has is with him. He asks Jim if he wants to take this outside and Jim does. So they go outside as we go to a last break!

Jim wants to know what is going on. Ryan says Jess is a just a friend of his brother’s. Jim punches Ryan and they fight! Actually..Ryan just takes down Jim and doesn’t punch him. He just tells him to stay away from Jess. She is trying to start over. Jim says that it’s none of his business. He says fine. This is where he leaves then. Ryan walks away and Jess is happy. Ryan tells her to stay away from Jim and Trey. Stop dating guys like them. He says that he also knows that he needs to stop dating girls like her. He tells her to take care of herself and leaves.

Taylor visits Seth in his room. He doesn’t want to talk to her about his sex problems with Summer. She has the cure, though.

Taylor: “As a matter of fact..I do. It’s called raunchy sex! Now..now..you don’t see me as a sexual being..Seth..I mean..I get that. But without revealing too much, if sex were a martial art..I would be a black belt!”

She breaks out a book about the kama sutra and goes over some positions with him. HAHAHAHA!!

Sandy talks with Dr. Griffin. And Sandy finally realizes what is going on. It’s his daughter, Maya. Dr. Griffin says that she cried over Matt for days. So he has it out to get Matt. He tells Sandy to choice..hospital or Matt?

Marissa calls Summer and Summer tells Marissa that Seth is coming over and that is bad. She thinks he is going to break up with her tonight. So she can’t hang out with Marissa. Marissa says she understands.

Sandy comes home and talks with Kirsten for a bit. He gets a phone call from Matt. But Sandy doesn’t answer it. He is still thinking about his decision..I guess. Or maybe he didn’t choice Matt? Hmm..

Kirsten leaves and finds Ryan. She is surprised to see him here. Ryan tells her that he finally learned his lesson with Jess, but it might be too late for him and Sadie. Kirsten says it’s never too late.

Seth comes to Summer’s room and Princess Sparkle is there to “cushion the blow”. Seth tells Summer to put her in her drawer. It’s time to get freaky!

Seth: “Now for the next 20 minutes or the next 24 hours..if I turn out to be Sting..you have to keep an open mind!”

Summer: “What are you talking about?”

Seth: “Now if you be so kind to disrobe..we will begin with the wheelbarrow position.”

Summer: “Oh my god..ewww!”

Seth tells her that Taylor taught him tantric sex. Summer gets upset and goes to hit Seth. Seth blocks a left and right! They get a look into each other’s eyes and here we go! YES! Sex time!

Meanwhile, Ryan goes to Sadie’s house. He has the toy car with him. He puts it down and tells Sadie the story. He and Trey used to play with those cars..especially when their mom was drinking. They would go back and pretend to not hear anything. Trey always said that he would save his money and buy one of those Camaros. That didn’t happen, so he tried to steal one and that’s when the story really begins! You should know that story..fans. Anyways he’s here now and Trey’s in Vegas. They don’t talk anymore. Ryan is not used to talking to people about his problems. Sadie says he is usually the one that people talk to. Sadie says she is a great listener, though. He just needs to let her do it. She doesn’t always want to talk, though. Time for them to make out and do other things!

Now we go back to Summer and Seth, who just had sex. It was fantastic! Angry sex is the best according to them! Time for some more!

And holy crap..another montage of images set to music! I love these! Yep..you should know this. The theme for this one..sex! We get images of Seth and Summer having sex. The same with Ryan and Sadie. Now here comes Marissa to her house and Volchok is waiting for her. She walks inside. Volchok follows her. Yep..time for them now!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
