Tonight’s episode is all about one thing. Marissa and Summer are becoming stepsisters with Julie and Dr. Roberts announcing their engagement in this episode. That should be interesting, but what about Julie’s new name. She will now be Julie Cooper Nichol Roberts! Awesome! Oh..and it appears that Marissa seeks out some “bad company” after learning the news. Yeah..I like the bad Marissa, so we’ll see what this is all about. Nothing else it seems like, so lets see if this show can keep its “good show” streak alive! On with it!
The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 19) – “The Secrets and Lies”
We open up to a party at “The Bait Shop”. Summer and Seth spy on Sadie and Ryan. Summer knows her body language and she thinks that Ryan really likes Sadie. Seth said that Ryan told him that they were just friends. Summer disagrees. And here comes Ryan and Sadie. Yep..they are in to each other. Summer is not mad about it, though. She is happy for Ryan. Topic switches to Julie and Summer’s dad and Summer and Marissa. It appears that Marissa lied to Summer. Marissa said she just needed to be alone for a bit after her and Ryan broke up. But there she is at “The Bait Shop”. Summer and Seth see Marissa with Volchok. Volchok puts his arm around Marissa and my god..they kiss. Summer says..”eww” to that body language! Now Volchok grabs Marissa’s butt, which leads to Seth talking about what THAT body language is really saying…
Seth: “Eww or touch my pooper?!”
“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”
We come back to see Volchok at Marissa’s house. It’s morning time and it looks like they got drunk and slept together. Here comes Summer knocking on her door. Marissa tells Volchok to hide. He does. Marissa finally opens the door and Summer starts to snoop around. Marissa says she is not feeling well. Marissa gets a call from her mom and Summer gets a call from her dad. They are in the same limo and tell their daughters the same thing. They all will have dinner at 8 p.m. tonight. Summer tells Marissa to get dressed and she will drive her to school..so they can talk about stuff. Marissa goes to “get dressed”. She really tells Volchok to get out of here. He is busy smoking some drugs! He shares some with Marissa. Bad girl!
Ryan walks into the Cohen house this morning and he’s happy! Really happy! Seth notices this. Ryan says he likes “The Bait Shop” and they should hang out there more often. Sadie wants to dance with Ryan and he thinks that’s a good idea. And why does Ryan sound just like my cousin? Ah..because I’m Seth. Anyways Seth doesn’t like that idea. He wants Ryan to be a “shut in”. Here comes Sandy now. He notices Ryan is in a good mood as well. He is happy for Ryan and Sadie. Ryan is off to Sadie’s before school. Here comes Kirsten and she calls them all “handsome men”. Both Sandy and Seth come back with “Where?!” at the same time, which is bad according to Seth. Same jokes as his dad. Sandy is not in a joking mood, though. Kirsten tries to cheer him up by saying they should have a romantic date tonight. Sandy can’t do that tonight, though. He has other things on his mind. Hmm… Seth tells his mom that he will be her date for tonight, which shocks Kirsten.
Meanwhile, Ryan and Sadie kiss at her house. Yowza! They will continue where they left off tonight at the pool house. Great..you know what happens there!
Summer and Seth are at school. Summer wants to know if Seth told Ryan about Marissa and Volchok yet. Seth said Ryan was in such a good mood this morning..he didn’t want to ruin it. Summer can’t understand what Marissa sees in Volchok. Seth says it’s his abs. Women love abs. He has some himself. Summer says that is just his ribs, though! They decide to keep their mouths shut about everything. Smart choice.
Sandy is at work now. And it’s bad news time for Matt. Sandy tells Matt that he is firing him. Matt can’t believe it. He says he is just the “fall guy” in this whole thing. Sandy says that Matt is no angel and Matt says that neither is Dr. Griffin. He has been taking “kick-backs” from vendors. Sandy says those are bold statements to make. Matt says he can prove it. Matt is a little mad and tells Sandy..”you haven’t seen anything yet!”
Julie and Neil tell the girls that they are engaged. Summer is happy, while Marissa is not so happy. Julie is surprised and Summer corrects me. Julie is now Mrs. Julie Cooper Nichol Cooper Roberts! HAHAHA! Julie comes over to see how Marissa feels, but she gets a phone call. Marissa has to go after she downs a glass of wine and tells her congratulations. Julie chases after Marissa. Julie says it’s an important night for this family and Marissa says she “won’t screw up her golden ticket”. Marissa leaves and gets on the back of Volchok’s motocycle. Summer sees her and Marissa sees Summer. Off they go!
Seth and Kirsten come back from a movie that Seth loves..Yakuza! They say they will do it again some time. They both had a great time. Summer calls Seth and tells him that they need to stop Marissa. Oh..and Julie and Neil are getting married. Seth can’t believe that, but Summer says they have bigger things to worry about.
Summer: “Marissa is on a slut spiral and we need to stop her!”
It’s a little over Seth’s head. Summer says they need Ryan. Seth says he has been in such a good mood. Seth really doesn’t want to ruin it.
At the pool house, the makeout session continues. Ryan and Sadie are in there. Seth tries to enter the pool house, but is shocked to see the door locked. Ryan says he is busy. Seth tells Ryan the news about Marissa and Volchok through the door and Ryan stops everything now. Time for Sadie to leave. Seth ruined the mood! HAHAHA! Time for a break!
We come back and Seth and Ryan are at school. Seth asks Ryan what he is going to do about Marissa. He says nothing. Seth says that Summer thinks that Volchok is not a great guy. Ryan agrees, but it’s not his problem. Marissa is no longer his girlfriend. He’s with Sadie.
Kirsten talks to Julie and can’t believe she is getting married AGAIN! Julie says that this time will stick! Kirsten wonders if this is just about the money that Dr. Roberts has. Julie say it isn’t. They just found each other at the right time. Julie walks outside to see Gus pissing out there. Kirsten walks out to see it as well and tells Julie that they need to hurry to get Julie out of this trailer park.
At school, Ryan sees Marissa and gives her a long look. He goes to talk to her. Marissa missed a test today. She totally forgot about that. Marissa drops her books and some alcohol falls out of her locker. Ryan picks it up and gives it back to her. He doesn’t seem to like where she is going. But says nothing.
Sandy talks to Dr. Griffin. Sandy asks him about what Matt said. Dr. Griffin tells Sandy that he is not doing anything dirty. They shake hands, which means nothing these days!
Julie moves into Dr. Roberts’ house and she is happy, happy, happy! She does a little dance in front of the maid! HA!
Summer finds Marissa out in the parking lot. She is drinking. Marissa says she can’t deal with this engagement right now. So she is staying drunk. Summer tells Marissa that she knows about her and Volchok. Marissa asks why Summer should care? Summer has Seth, Ryan has Sadie, and Johnny is gone. Marissa says she is not hurting anyone. They now go off into a full-blown argument where they try to insult each other.
Summer: “You’re just the saddest girl in the whole world! Just grow up..get over yourself! Take a shower!”
Marissa: “Fine..well why don’t you take your little emo boyfriend, drive in your beamer, and go home to daddy’s mansion!”
Summer: “Well..why don’t you go with Volchok to one of his heavy metal vomit parties and listen to heavy metal and like..vomit!”
Marissa: “WOW! You’re being so lame!”
Summer: “Not as lame as you!”
Marissa: “Bye!”
Summer: “Later!”
Back at the office, Sandy is packing up and getting ready to leave. He hears a noise and finds Matt looking for something. Sandy says Matt is trespassing. Matt doesn’t care. He wonders what Sandy will do. Matt leaves with his personal files and tells Sandy..”Game On!”
Ryan and Sadie eat at the diner. Sadie is about to tell Ryan some good news, until some friends of Volchok come into the diner. Ryan overhears them talking about Marissa and Volchok. They are making fun of Marissa a little. Sadie thinks they should leave, but Ryan says it’s fine. Sadie gets up to leave and walks outside. Ryan goes after her. Sadie says the “mood was ruined again”. She thinks they are trying too hard. They just need to let the “perfect night” just happen. Ryan says she will drive Sadie home, but first he has to do something.
Ryan walks back inside and talks to Volchok’s friends. Ryan tells them that he is looking for Volchok. He wants to meet him at the pier. Now Ryan gets his “crazy eyes” look and he is serious. He is right in the face of Volchok’s friend.
Ryan: “You think you can remember all of that? Or do you need me to right it down for you?!”
He REALLY wants to talk to Volchok. They say they will tell him. And we are off to another break!
When we come back, Volchok is meeting Ryan at the pier. Volchok knew that Ryan would be in his face soon enough. Ryan tells him that he is not responsible for Marissa anymore. Volchok has to take care of her, because he won’t. She has a drinking problem, but Volchok doesn’t seem to care. Ryan just tells Volchok to treat Marissa right. He’s done with her, though.
Now we go to the Roberts home where the new feuding stepsisters sit down for some breakfast with their sunglasses on. They fight over the food. Here comes Julie and Neil. They are all cheery. The first family dinner will be tonight. Julie says they can all catch up on each other’s lives. Summer says that Marissa has a lot of new news to tell everyone, so it will be fun. Hehe. Marissa calls Summer a “little girl” and they both storm off. Sisters is right!
Ryan comes to Sadie’s house to see another guy in her house. He’s surprised. Sadie is in the shower. She comes out and asks Ryan if he met Bob? Nope, but now they do. Ryan thinks he’s being replaced, but Bob just bought the house. That was the good news that Sadie wanted to tell Ryan. Ryan tells Sadie that he is done with Volchok and Marissa. That is over. He’s ready to move on. Sadie says she is done as well. The house is sold and there is no reason for her to stay here. Ryan basically asks about them? Sadie says she never intended to stay this long. If she stays she would have to find an apartment and then what..wait for Ryan to finish high school and then follow him to college? Ryan never thought about the future. He was living in the now. He just wants to take her to dinner. They kiss. Sadie says the reason Ryan hasn’t thought about the future is because he is not ready to think about it. Sadie says she can’t change her whole life for someone that is distracted by other things.
Seth and Ryan talk on the boardwalk. Seth says that Sadie is relatively issue-free. Ryan says that if he asks Sadie to move here..it would put a lot of pressure on their relationship. Seth says Ryan LOVES pressure. So basically..Ryan is going to ask Sadie to stay.
Now Sandy and Dr. Griffin talk. Sandy tells him what Matt told him. Dr. Griffin says that Sandy has done enough. Sandy just needs to focus on the hospital. Dr. Griffin will handle Matt and his “documents” that will try to incriminate him.
Trouble in sisterland as Marissa says she is not going to dinner tonight. Summer says Marissa has to go, even if she is mad at her. Marissa says whatever..just save her some dessert.
Summer calls Seth and asks him why Ryan hasn’t talked to Marissa yet.
Summer: “The slut is still spiraling!”
Seth says he tried to activate Ryan’s “savior complex”, but it didn’t work. He’s cured. Seth is busy hanging with his mom right now, though. That shocks Summer, but she says whatever. They hang up.
Time for dinner. Marissa is not there. Neil thinks Julie should call her again, but she tried that already. Summer thinks they should start without Marissa. Neil is worried as she never missed dinner before at his house. Julie says she was never there then. She begins to tell Neil that her and Marissa have had some problems, but Summer sticks up for Julie and says they have just had some bad luck. Julie thanks Summer.
Marissa and Volchok are at the beach. Volchok thought that Marissa and her mom fought all the time. Marissa says it’s not her mom this time. It’s Summer. The only time they ever fought was in the fifth grade. She sat in the back of the bus with Luke. That wasn’t good, since Summer and Luke got engaged in the second grade. Marissa wonders why Volchok is asking all of these questions all of a sudden. Volchok says they are hanging out a lot now and that “she deserves to be treated right.”
Marissa: “If I wanted to be treated right..I wouldn’t be with you!”
Volchok says that works for him. Now he offers Marissa some crack..it looks like. She has never tried it, though. So he does it alone.
Kirsten brings Seth to her AA class, which Seth doesn’t like at all. He tries to walk away, but Kirsten says that this class has saved her whole life. Seth says going through all of that the first time was painful enough for him. Seth says that Kirsten never talks about what happened to her. Kirsten says that Seth never asks. Kirsten says she is just trying to share this with Seth. Seth says she lied. They are not leaving, though. Kirsten says it’s important for him to stay here. Seth finally agrees.
Matt comes home. He checks his answering machine. One is from a reporter about the “Griffin story”. Another is from Sandy. He wants to talk to Matt. There is a knock at the door and a bunch of thugs come in to beat the holy hell out of Matt. It’s not a robbery, though. They destroy everything in his house.
Ryan knocks on Sadie’s door with flowers, but Bob answers. Sadie is not there. Ryan says he will wait for her. But Bob tells him that Sadie has already left to go back to Oregon. Ryan is heartbroken. He throws down the flowers as we go to a last break!
We come back to see Ryan at the pier. He is looking out at the ocean. Here comes Marissa. She wonders why Ryan is here? Ryan knew she would be here. Marissa asks where Sadie is. Ryan tells her that she left without saying goodbye. He guesses she thought it would be easier this way. It’s not, though. Marissa is not staying. She tells Ryan to enjoy the pier. She’s gone.
Back to the class and some old guy is talking about his problems. Pissing in the streets, shooting wives, etc. Now it’s Kirsten’s turn to speak. She is nine months sober. Kirsten speaks to the class after introducing everyone to Seth.
Kirsten: “He doesn’t know this, but he’s the reason I got sober. The look on his face at my intervention..he was so disappointed in me. But he believed that I could do this and he was right!”
She sits back down and Seth hugs her.
Sadie is about to leave for Oregon on a bus. But here comes Marissa. Sadie is surprised to see her. Marissa is glad she came in time. She tells Sadie that she shouldn’t leave. Ryan really cares about her. Sadie asks if Ryan told her this? Marissa says he didn’t have to. She just knows after everything they’ve been through. Sadie said he never tried to stop her. Marissa says he did, but was a few minutes late. Sadie asks Marissa why she is doing this? Marissa says that Sadie makes Ryan happy right now.
Back to the Julie and Neil Roberts. Neil is sad that Marissa missed dinner. Julie says there will be many more. Neil informs her that this engagement is just a trial. To see if they work out and if their families can get along. If they can’t, then they shouldn’t get married. He’s not trying to be mean or anything..he’s just trying to be practical. Julie seems hurt. He leaves. Summer overheard everything.
Summer comes in to talk to Julie. Summer tells Julie to not worry about her dad, he always gets this way when he gets close to someone. Julie says she is only worried about Marissa. And Summer agrees.
Marissa tries to buy alcohol at “The Bait Shop”, but she is underage. She is not happy about that.
Sandy goes to Matt’s house to find him and what happened to his house. Sandy asks what happened? Matt says Sandy should know.
Ryan comes home to the pool house to see Sadie there. He asks what she is doing here? Sadie wants Ryan to tell her. They begin to kiss and stuff. Ryan asks her what he can do to make her stay. She says he is doing it. Time to makeout!
Back to the beach and Marissa finds Volchok and his friends. She doesn’t want to talk, though. She just wants some drugs! She takes some of Volchok’s drugs and off we go!
And we are out until next week!
