Looking Ahead

Welcome to the column that is the first thing posted on Monday Morning, which means I get first dibs on the thoughts and opinions of WrestleMania. Hooray for me!

So here’s my thoughts, match by match, on this years Wrestling Extravaganza!

WrestleMania XXII

Carlito & Masters vs. Big Show & Kane

Wank wank wank. The wrong team won. Decent opener though.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The Flair injury angle was a good way to get him out of the match for a while, but he could have done with selling the leg just a little bit more when he came back.

Loved the match. It had a little bit of everything, which is always a good.

The better man won I suppose, but I was marking out like f*ck when I thought my pick.. FINLEY.. was fumbling with the briefcase.

Chris Benoit vs. JBL

Hopefully all this Eddie Guerrero tribute crap, which has gone on long enough, will end tonight.

Highly enjoyable match, but I thought it could have been better. Maybe my expectations were too high. Whatever the case may be, JBL rules, and I’m glad he’s champ. Even if he does have man-bobos.

Edge vs. Cactus Jack

Cracking video package before the match.

Having Joey Styles call the match was a great idea. Props to whoever decided that.

Cookie sheets and road signs? Wank wank wank.

Barbwire and fire tables! Great great great!

Foley was in the zone tonight, no doubt. Awesome match, MOTN so far.

Freakshow & Backlash Promo

Goldust needs to get drafted to SmackDown, and Dibiase needs to make a return.

And that skit ruled.

As for the Backlash promo, Cena will take what is his. Nice way to ruin the outcome of the Cena-HHH match. Well.. for anybody who couldn’t guess.

Booker T & Sharmell vs. The Boogeyman

The crowd was dead, and quite right too. What a shitty match.

Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James

I’ve got NO idea why the crowd booed Trish. But it’s funny none-the-less. It spoiled the match a little though.

LOVED the Mickie feel up of Trish. Pity the ending got botched so badly. A shit ending that both ladies didn’t deserve.

Undertaker vs. Mark Henry

Well… that was a surprise. Decent match, although I was kinda hoping the crowd would have turned on Taker and cheered for Henry.

HBK vs. Old Man McMahon

It’s a shame Bret didn’t make an appearance, but hey ho, you can’t win them all. A cracking match, loved every second of it.

Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio

This should have been saved for last. Still… the right man won. Pretty short match, but it was great none-the-less. I think there should have been some confetti, fireworks, etc to top it off though.

Thought Tatanka was making an appearance for a second during the shitty POD performance. Shame it wasn’t.

Playboy Pillow Match

Boring and Pointless. NEXT!

John Cena vs. Triple H

JR did an amazing job explaining why Cena got booed to f*ck out there.

And what the hell was HHH smoking when he agreed to wear that faggy crown and animal skin ensemble? His queer crown ruined the match for me.

And as for Cena’s pre-entrance… well.. oh dear. What a shitty way for a Main Event to start. And Cena sucking up to the fans didn’t work too well.

Old School > New School

The wrong man won. Travesty.

Final Thoughts

What a shitty ending. Trip winning would have made the night all the more memorable, as he’d have pretty much killed off Cena.

A good all round PPV. Well worth the money.

News… in the Present!

Osama Alejandro Rodriguez is being called up from OVW to be a heel manager on RAW, starting this week.

From what I’ve read here on IP, Osama’s an awesome speaker and a funny bastard to boot. Who he’ll manage is beyond me though. Conway maybe?

The Card So Far

No matches have been officially announced as of yet.

Predictions / Fantasy Booking / Etc…

We’ll have to wait for Raw tonight to see where they go with all the angles and feuds, but I wouldn’t be surprised to have the following matches at Backlash:

Triple H vs. John Cena
Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James
Carlito vs. Chris Masters
RVD vs. Edge
Ric Flair vs. Shelton Benjamin

Draft Lottery

Every week until whenever they do the draft, I’ll be bringing you a recommendation for somebody to be moved.

This week.. it’s Kane

An imminent feud with Big Show or not, I’d move Kane over to SmackDown. He could have a lovely feud with either Lashley, Henry (might as well get some mileage out of him while he’s here) or Orton.

The aura is fading…

How good was Lost last week? I’ve looked at quite a few links on the net about that map on the door, and enlarged images of it, etc. Mind boggling can only describe it. I wonder if Locke will tell anybody about it, or just keep it to himself. I think he might let the timer count down again during one of his night-shifts, make a copy of the map, then go off exploring for it on his own.

Next Week in Looking Ahead: I take a look at and evaluate the entire RAW roster. It’s gonna be HUGE I tell’s ya! HUGE!

Right. Time to go to bed. It’s 5am, and I’ve got an action-packed day ahead of me which includes various games of snooker, trips to the cinema and a greasy burger or two.

Adios! (bring it on Hevia…)

Danny Wallace.
