The O.C. – Recap – Episode 3-21

Archive

This season is winding down and it’s getting better and better. No doubt that they will try and bring out the best stuff to close this season, just like they did last season.

Lets see what the preview says for tonight’s episode. Ryan has a steamy encounter with his mother’s co-worker? Huh..what is that? That doesn’t make any sense right now, but who knows what will happen. And it looks like Seth is still keeping secrets. Stop lying Seth. That simple. You think you are doing Summer a favor by letting her go to Brown, but she wants to be with you. Why would you let someone that hott go away?! Arrgh! Maybe Seth feels that he doesn’t deserve her. I don’t know, but now it seems the roles are reversed. Summer is chasing after Seth now. That should be interesting. Lets hope it all turns out okay.

Anyways..since I’m late with this as it is..lets get going! On with the show!

The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 21) – “The Dawn Patrol”

We open up with Seth, the MASTER griller! He made dinner for everyone. Sandy and Kirsten talk about graduation and that they are only given two tickets to it per student. Sandy wants the Nana to be there for Seth’s graduation. Ryan tells them to take his tickets. He won’t be inviting any of his family. Kirsten thinks Ryan should invite his mom. Ryan walks away. Sandy doesn’t think this is a good idea. Kirsten says she is turning his life around. Kirsten says it should be up to Ryan. Sandy says he is still only a kid.

Kirsten: “Right..because when we get older we make MUCH better decicions!”

Kirsten comes to find Ryan to apologize to him. Ryan says it’s fine. He has been thinking about inviting her to graduation anyways. Ryan wonders if she is doing better now. Kirsten says there is only one way to find out. So Ryan finally agrees that his mom deserves another chance. So he will be flying to New Mexico to invite her to graduation. Ryan says it can’t be that bad..can it?!

“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”

We are back with VOlchok finding Marissa at her house. He is back from Baja. He wants to do a little..you know. Marissa says they can’t do this right now, because here comes Julie. She threatens violence on Volchok. Volchok says he was leaving anyways. Marissa seems to be over him anyways. Marissa tells Julie to save the lecture.

Julie: “Oh..no lecture. He’s cool. He’s got great abs and personifies everything that is bad for you..Marissa!”

Marissa: “Oh..so you want to sleep with him instead?!”

Marissa says that volchok is not that bad. Julie was wrong about Ryan and Marissa thinks that she may be wrong about Volchok as well. Julie says that she won’t allow Marissa to date Volchok to find out for sure. Marissa walks away.

Kirsten comes to talk to Ryan before he leaves for New Mexico. She wants to know what Ryan will do there. Ryan says that she is working at some diner and he is just going to show up and see what happens. Kirsten says that no matter what happens..she will be there to watch him at graduation. Ryan says thanks.

Seth sees Summer at school and both look sad. Taylor sees them both and comes up to talk to Summer. Taylor says that she is offering herself up as a friend for Summer. Summer tells Taylor that she can’t believe that Seth just totally changed his mind about the future so quickly. She says that two years ago he stood up on that coffee cart and proclaimed his love for her. And now it has changed. Summer knows that Seth MUST be hiding something, because he can’t just walk away from her. Not when he is Seth and she is Summer. She is going to find out the truth.

Matt is drinking somewhere. Sandy interrupts him. Matt hands Sandy some papers. It’s the money he wants from Griffin. He either pays up or Matt starts spilling the dirt on Griffin.

Meanwhile, Marissa comes to Volchok and wants to hang out some more. To piss her mom off!

Now we are in New Mexico at a diner. Ryan is looking for his mom, but finds a co-worker of hers named Chloe. She calls him cute and says that her shift doesn’t start until a few hours. Ryan will be back he says and Chloe says she will still be there.

Now to school where Seth and Summer sit and listen to polynomial talk. Yay..my favorite! Summer tries to get Seth’s attention to talk to him, but he ignores her. That causes Summer to get Seth in trouble by saying that he was making fun of the teacher behind his back. The teacher sends them both out of class.

Seth and Summer walk to the principal’s office now and Seth is mad at Summer. He has never been kicked out of class. This was the only way Summer could get to talk to Seth. Summer says that the breakup is off. She broke up with Seth and no she has the power to un-breakup with him. So they are back together until Seth tells her the truth. No time to talk anymore about this, though. They are at Dr. Kim’s office. HA!

Ryan walks back to the diner and sees his mom. She has a friend..a boyfriend with a motorcycle. He sees this and walks away. Chloe sees him leaving and wants to know if he wants to go talk somewhere with her. Ryan says sure and they walk off together. We are off for a commercial as well!

We come back to Volchok and Marissa having some sex. There is a knock at the door and it’s Julie! Marissa runs to hide. Julie wants to know where Marissa is. She didn’t go to school today. Volchok says that she already got into college.

Julie: “Listen up Tommy Lee..you’re just the latest..in a series of experiments..my daughter likes to make, while acting out! So enjoy it, because right here..right now..is as good as it gets for you. Soon Marissa is going to wake up and realize that she is so much better than you and your life!”

Marissa hears all of this from the other room.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Ryan drink some beer. Chloe says he came a long way to avoid her. Ryan says they have had a troubled past. Chloe says that Dawn is doing well. Ryan didn’t expect this at all as he dances with Chloe now. That leads to..wow..going to the hotel room for some sex. Wonderful.

Griffin comes to see Sandy. Time to talk. Sandy tells Griffin want Matt said. Griffin says he will handle Matt, but Sandy says no. Matt is his problem now. Griffin tells him good luck for both of them.

Back to Ryan and Chloe. They are done and Chloe is getting ready to leave. Ryan tells Chloe that he is going to invite his mom to graduation. Chloe thinks that should be fun. She leaves and Ryan calls Seth. Ryan tells Seth that he is going to get an earlier flight. Seth says he can’t just go to New Mexico and not invite his mom. Ryan doesn’t know about his mom, her boyfriend, and his snake at graduation. Seth says that at least he should just say hi. He tells Ryan to be a man, because someone needs to be. Ryan asks if Seth is still lying to everyone about everything. Seth says he is trying to stay quiet. The less he says, the fewer lies he has to keep track of. Seth says that if he tells the truth, Summer will throw away her future for him. They say good luck to each other and end their conversation.

Ryan goes back to the diner and walks in. His mom is excited to see him.

Seth goes to see Summer at her house. Summer thinks they should go on a date, since they are back together. One problem..now it’s Seth’s turn to breakup with Summer. He has the power now. Seth feels this is for the best. Summer says the only reason she un-broke them up was to find out why they broke up in the first place. Seth says she will never know now. Summer is in shock as Seth leaves.

Back to the diner. Chloe told Dawn about Ryan being here and about the graduation. Dawn says she will go to his graduation. Ryan says they will talk about that later.

Now we get a early montage of images set to music. We see Seth come back and collapse on his bed. We see Ryan leave the diner and stop the door from slamming on the way out. Symbolism..maybe. Dawn smiles and waves goodbye. Ryan says bye as well as we are out for a commercial!

We come back to see Marissa at Volchok’s house. They are having a party. That involves drugs, alcohol, and some sexual activity. Party on! Some girl named Heather, who was one of Marissa’s enemies at the Newport public school, comes in to put down Marissa. Calling her “a princess that fell off her throne and landed on Volchok’s matress.”

Back to the diner again. Ryan is back. Chloe and Dawn talk about getting Dawn a new dress for graduation. Ryan says she doesn’t have to do that. Dawn gets a phone call from her boyfriend. They are both coming to the graduation. Chloe tells Ryan sorry for inviting Dawn before he could. Ryan says it’s okay..he was going to invite her anyways or so he says.

Now to Summer, who is talking to Taylor. They are best friends now..I suppose. Taylor asks if Summer still loves Seth? Summer does. Taylor then asks if Seth said that he didn’t love her when he broke up with her? Nope..he didn’t. Taylor says Seth is just afraid then. Love trumps fear..love trumps everything. So Summer thinks it’s time to create a plan. Taylor has an idea.

Seth talks to Captain Oates now. He gets a phone call from Taylor. She tells Seth that detention is being held in the student lounge this week, so go there instead. And don’t be late or she will have to give him another one. Summer listens in on this and smiles.

Sandy gets a phone call from Kirsten. Kirsten wants to talk to Sandy tonight. She feels disconnected from him. Sandy says he can come home earlier tonight.

Sandy hangs up and here comes Matt. Matt said that he talked to Griffin and they are meeting tonight to exchange things. This is all news to Sandy, who thinks that Griffin just wants to beat up Matt some more. Sandy tells Matt to not trust Griffin. Matt says he holds all the cards now. Sandy doesn’t know about that.

Back to Volchok’s party and Heather is getting drunk. Some guys pour more liquor and drugs in her alcohol, and then into her throat. That’s not good at all. Marissa sees this from far away. Heather drinks her spiked drink as Marissa watches.

Now to school where Seth sees the school is filled with kisses and pink, white, and red balloons. Pretty obvious and here comes Summer. She gets up onto the coffee cart. She says that Seth’s breakup is missing a key element and that is love.

Summer: “Look..I love you this much..and I wanna be with you now, and next year, and whatever comes after that. So I’m asking, in the presence of this coffee cart and the sacred moment that it represents..if you can honestly tell me that you don’t love me anymore?!”

Seth: “Summer…”

Summer: “Just say it. Cohen, if you don’t love me..I will go to Brown by myself and I will be cold and miserable and alone, and I will never bother you again!”

Seth: “I don’t love you anymore!”

And Summer’s heart breaks along with mine and everyone across America! She gets off the cart and tells Seth to leave. He does and Taylor comes to comfort Summer. Summer says she has to go to detention.

And Seth is already there. Summer walks in and that hurts. It hurts really bad!

Meanwhile, Julie looks around Marissa’s room. She finds Marissa’s Berkeley sweatshirt. That makes her call Marissa. Marissa is still at Volchok’s party. Marissa doesn’t answer as she sees Heather being taken off by a group of guys. They take her outside to a van. Yep..Heather is being date raped. Marissa knows this and opens the van door and stops them.

Chloe and Dawn come to show Ryan the new dress that Dawn bought for graduation. Ryan then tells Dawn that he is not going to graduation. He and Seth are going to blow it off. So he is not going to graduation. Ryan says that Dawn can come visit later in the summer, but no graduation. Dawn knows that he is lying. Ryan shouldn’t be ashamed of her. She is not going to ruin his graduation. Dawn is mad as she walks out. Time for a last commercial!

We come back to see Chloe talking to Ryan. Ryan says that his mom does the same thing. She gets clean for a little bit and is okay, and then meets some low-life guy and ruins her life again. Chloe says that Dawn’s new boyfriend is a good guy. He is sober for 12 years now and does a lot of good things for her. Ryan didn’t know that and Chloe said that he didn’t want to know that. Chloe says that Ryan already made up his mind about his mom and her boyfriend before he found out the truth. Ryan has to leave for the airport now, though. Chloe says she will drive him. They have to make a stop first.

Kirsten tries to call Sandy, but he doesn’t answer. He is late.

And oh..Sandy just didn’t answer the phone as he is watching Matt and his meeting with Griffin. Sandy gets out of his car and watches. Matt and Griffin meet. Griffin as the money and Matt says the files are in his backseat. Griffin has a thug with him. He is here for Matt. Sandy then interrupts all of this and says good. There are no files. Matt has nothing on Griffin. Sandy says he checked everything after Matt left and there was nothing that Matt had. Bad judgement on Matt’s part. That was a big waste of time says Griffin. They leave and Sandy gives Matt his pay that he owes him. That will give him a start in Chicago or wherever he wants to go. Sandy leaves and Matt says that he is sorry. Sandy gets back into his car and oh..look..he has some evidence. So maybe he stole it from Matt’s car before he could give it to Griffin. Hmm..

Back to the Cohen home, and Kirsten drags out the wine bottle. Oh no..she is pissed at Sandy. She thinks better of it and pours out the wine before drinking any of it. Seth walks into the door and Kirsten hides everything. Seth just got home from some mindless, blood and guts movies to help ease the pain! It didn’t work that well. Kirsten wants to know if he wants to talk. Seth wants to know where Ryan is. He is not home yet. Seth then asks his mom if everything is okay with her and she says everything is fine.

Ryan and Chloe make a stop back at the diner. Chloe shows him Dawn’s locker, which has pictures of him all over the place. Chloe tells Ryan that he is Dawn’s whole life. Dawn walks in and Chloe leaves. Time to talk! Ryan says that he is sorry to Dawn. Dawn explains to him what happened with his birthday party. She says she wasn’t ready. Ryan understands. Dawn says that she is getting her life back straight now, though. She is going to work and going to meetings and being with a decent guy. Ryan says that he is still her kid and she is still his mom. There is a little bit of her in him, so she can’t be all bad..can she? Dawn makes Ryan promise to never forget that. He does and he hands her the tickets to graduation.

That starts off our closing show montage of images set to music, which happens to be “Waiting for You” by Ben Harper. Ryan walks out of the diner and thanks Chloe for the “family intervention”. She is not sorry and Ryan is not sorry either. Chloe hopes that everything works out for him at graduation and maybe they could see more of each other later. Ryan says it sounds good as they say their goodbyes. Now Sandy goes to his office instead of going home. He is going to look at the evidence probably. Now we see Julie drinking and here comes Marissa. She is crying. They hug. Marissa knows that her life is getting messed up. Now we see Taylor and Summer. Taylor tries to comfort Summer with sugar, but it doesn’t work. Summer can’t believe that Seth doesn’t love her anymore. Now Ryan is home and Seth is waiting for him. He has been thinking about a lot.

Seth: “I think I made the worst mistake of my entire life. Now I need to get Summer back and I have to get in to Brown.”

Ryan: “Great. How?”

Seth: “That’s were you come in.”

Ryan: “We need a plan?”

Seth: “It’s gonna be a long night, Ryan. A lot of whining, a lot of pining… maybe some brainstorming. You don’t mind?”

Ryan: “It’s good to be home. Alright, how are we gonna get you Summer back?”

Seth: “Plan A: I fake my own death. You never wanna underestimate the power of the sympathy vote.”

Ryan: “Is there a plan B?”

Seth: “Yeah..yeah..I could hack into the Brown firewall and into the admission’s office mainframe and reverse my rejection.”

Ryan: “That’s actually good. You know how to do that?”

Seth: “I had an uncle who went to DeVry!”

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
