The Movie

Call me crazy, but for some reason, I was genuinely excited to see In The Mix. I mean, I’ll watch pretty much anything, but this movie kind of drew a line. I don’t know what I was on thinking that I actually might enjoy this. It is cheesy, but then again, Usher is the main character, which basically makes it a teenybopper flick.

So has anyone seen the movie The Bodyguard? Well if you have, take that movie and remove anything resembling a good movie and replace it with a flirty romance, and of course a dancing Usher! Now, mix all of that with The Sopranos (mildly) and there you have it. The movie deals with interracial dating, and quite a few stereotypes to say the least. Overall, the movie was quite predictable and I found myself constantly checking my watch as the time dragged on.

Seriously, the movie is about Darell, the guy every girl wants. Dolly is his old friend and he agrees to DJ a surprise party for her. Her family is all Mafia and at said party someone tries a drive by on her Dad. Darell saves the day and soon enough Dolly makes him her bodyguard to piss her father off. Shenanigans ensue.

As for the acting, I think Usher did what he could with what he had, but then again, HE’S A SINGER. As for Emmanuelle Chriqui, SHE’S HOT and that redeems all acting problems. Most amusing was Anthony Fazio who plays Frank Jr., Dolly’s brother. Three words: Malibu’s Most Wanted. Not to mention Chazz Palminteri, who plays Dolly’s mobster father. He really should have kept himself out of this movie. This movie is beneath a man of his talent.

Folks, STAY AWAY FROM THE BAD MOVIE. If you watch it, watch it for some dance tips and nothing else.
