The Inside Pulse:
Sabrosa Purr, which was derived from a combination of a Beastie Boys song and a Sonic Youth song, are three musicians together from California (Will Love, Jeff Mendel and Jacob Thompson) who show no signs of selling out their unique style just to get played on mainstream radio. Music from the Velvet Room, their debut EP, offers a lot in eight tracks to think about, leaving it up to the listener to define what Sabrosa Purr is in relation to their own mood that day.

Positives:
There is intensity on Music from the Violet Room and good or bad, it cannot be denied. “The Lonely People” and “Pink” are the strongest of the eight songs on because they are in your face and yet like a audible Edvard Munch masterpiece. Emotionally honest in their lyrics and delivery, Sabrosa Purr have the best intentions and they have every potential to grow as artists.

Negatives:
Though intensity is the consistency, there isn’t much else that is consistent about their sound which is good and bad. The frequent yelling feels over done and sometimes the guitars drown out Will Love’s voice entirely which takes me as the listener out of the songs sometimes. I believe strongly that Sabrosa Purr is a band to see live when they are in your town to fully appreciate them, but I don’t feel it translates to a album like it should.

Cross-Breed:
Hammel on Trial, Pink Floyd, a walk-in cameo by a pissed off voice in our head

Reasons to buy:
Experimental in every way, where genres are thrown to the ground like unnecessary car keys, which is always refreshing to hear in music. Sabrosa Purr are artists in the greatest sense of the word and I am eager to hear what they have to offer in the future.
