Lots of News

Lots of Views

Lots of Me

Lots of You…

No new Photoshop title because I’m a slackass

How about this though:

Welcome once again to Marvel News & Views – the place where I get to pilfer the best of the best from around the world – put it in one fine place for you to look at – then berate it mercilessly. I’m not that bad, am I? I don’t think so.

Anyway, let’s get the world a rolling, because looking at my FireFox browser, it’s loaded with news this week – including a VERY special link at the bottom of the page…..

ONCE UPON AN X…
Courtesy of Newsarama

This is mostly interview fodder – but it’s about the X-Folk, specifically the X-Men: Fairy Tales book that will be coming out in the near future so I figured I’d address it.

At first I was under the impression that it was going to be fairy tale like approaches at X-Stories, but it is actually much closer to the fairly famous Uncanny #153 – where it’s a couple of old fairy tales as done with X-Characters. The interview is an interview, and regular readers of this column know what I think of interviews, but I got far enough into it to realize I’m going to probably enjoy this damned book.

Why? I love reinterpretation of classics… just one of those weaknesses I have.

BENDIS PANEL @ PITTSBURGH
Transcribed at Newsarama

Thank god someone went and transcribed this – because I wasn’t… hell, I wasn’t even at the panel. So here are the short notes as to what you get if you read this:

** ON HAWKEYE
He will be returning, but more as Clint than as Hawkeye.

** ON ULTIMATE SPIDEY
Bendis is thrilled that Spidey and X-Men have an emotional tie.

** ON LUKE CAGE
Put in the best way I’ve ever read – Bendis explains how he feels that Luke is one of those Marvel Royalty characters who has his very defined presence. He will be playing a big role in Civil War.

** ON CIVIL WAR
I’ve heard him say it before – it’s the greatest thing Millar has ever written – and he expects people to switch their opinion halfway through. I look forward to it.

** ON HIS LEGACY
want to be remembered as having the least amount of books in the quarter bin than everybody else.

That has to go down as one of the greatest quotes I think I’ve ever read about comic fame. Just saying.

** ON DOCTOR STRANGE
Danielle once told me that there was this bit about how everyone who comes to Marvel has a Doctor Strange story – and everyone tries to get a hold of Doctor Strange. I thought it was just a funny bit, until last year at San Diego and I heard JMS state the same thing – and now:

Doctor Strange is this book that everybody in comics loves and has a pitch for. We all have a Doctor Strange pitch. I think that Brian’s might be the one that breaks the Doctor Strange curse…

Who knew!

** ON ULTIMATE CONTINUITY
It will catch up – thank god.

** ON ULTIMATE DAREDEVIL
He’ll be appearing in Ultimate Spider-Man Annual – nice.

** ON ULTIMATE PETER PARKER’S AGE
He turns 16 at issue 100 – and Bendis states that about 10 months have passed since Ben died… a reaaallly busy 10 months.

** ON ULTiMATE INVASION
It is an internet rumor so stop bothering yourself.

** ON SPIDER-WOMAN
She’s getting her book right after Civil War and it’s going to be a spy drama. I can deal with that, especially since I am fairly certain Bendis was a fan of Alias – and her origin book was VERY close to that. Plus it’s Maleev… come on!

Wow, that was a column bulker – I love stuff like that…. MORE NEWS!

ULTIMATE ALLIANCE LOOKS BADASS!
Ripped Shamelessly from Newsarama

This is going to be part of the new Marvel RPG for the various gaming systems… how f’n awesome does this look – with 20 playable characters – 140 Marvel characters involved – and Team Creation modes… Oh come on! I’m geeking OUT here!

ON THE EVE OF WAR
Hey – It’s at Marvel

Marvel wants to make sure you know about what has happened on our way to Civil War. So they gave us this:

Click here to be shocked and awe’d.

My computer is being annoying with Quicktime, but I’m sure it’s fantastic, it sounds nice anyway.

IRON MAN IS MONEY, BABY
Swingin outta Newsarama

Marvel has tapped the actor/screenwriter/director (Jon Favreau) to develop and direct Iron Man

I’m a fan of Favreau… I think he’s one of those guys you just have to love a little bit these days, especially if you are in that twenty-something demo. Don’t know why – he’s MONEY, baby. MONEY! And who knows Money and Martinis better than Favreau…

JOE QUESADA HATES MARY JANE
Riffed from Newsarama

Joey Q goes off on how he doesn’t believe that MJ and Peter should be married in this week’s Joe Friday. Let me address this in my own ranty way because I already see the writing on the wall. Joe goes on and on about how Spider-Man makes a better ‘Single’ hero, much like Batman does.

He addresses how in all incarnations Spidey is a single teenager, except for the standard Marvel universe one.

That doesn’t change anything when it comes to Spider-Man as far as I’m concerned, and now with all of these talks about the MJ/Pete relationship – we can already deduce that the writing on the wall is that they are heading towards dumpsville. Why? Because Joey doesn’t like it that way? Maybe not, but it sure as hell doesn’t hurt.

Over the last two years, JMS has done an amazing job at showing us how these two people truly love and hold each other higher than anything else – Spidey DIED for her for god’s sakes. I will have to be rightfully impressed to see how they can possibly break up the second most loving couple in the Marvel Universe (next to Sue and Reed).

How do you fix it, how do you fix it without saying that years of Spider-Man books didn’t count? That’s been the lingering question.

Oh god… Oh no…. I was thinking divorce… Now I’m thinking Retcon.
