Hello everyone I‘m Jim Trabold, welcome to the Ultimate Marvel Handbook.

Hey Daron how are you today bud?

Hey there, Jim. I’m doing pretty good.

I‘m good and excited big time for Civil War since it started this week. I‘m hoping for some emails coming with questions and opinions on the Civil War myself. But that‘s next week. We have a nice amount to cover this week so let‘s start

Have you ever noticed how bossy you are at the end and beginning of the column???

Cory emails

Ah, after my 2 week hiatus…I AM BACK! Lol. What’s good fellas? Been a lil busy at work, but have been reading the past 2 installments, anyway, here goes everything!

Welcome back Cory

1- I noticed that a common trait has become associated with the typical heroes, e.g., Independent Wealth. Of course Tony Stark & Bruce Wayne come to mind, but Professor Charles Francis Xavier??? I don’t remember him owning much in terms of incoming revenue, and if I am wrong care to explain how he is so rich, or where his money come from? Then again, as many times at the mansion has been wrecked, he gotta have something.

Tony and Bruce I always see as comparable. They use their money for their gadgets very well. I see that as an easy comparison

Charles Xavier is rich though. Charles Xavier was born to Brian and Sharon Xavier, a couple that were wealthy partially due to Brian being a well-respected scientist. After Brian died in a hernandite accident, his science partner Kurt Marko comforted the grieving Sharon and eventually married her. When Xavier’s telepathic mutant powers emerged, he discovered Kurt really only cared about her money.

Wow, Cory, where have you been? Xavie’s always had money. Your question reminds me a this girl I knew who used to work at one my local comic shops. After being at the shop for well over 3 months she asked me, “When did Jean Grey become a telepath?” To this day I still don’t know how to answer that question without sounding like a complete ass!

2- The terms “Super Hero,” “Super Heroes,” and by association, “superhero” have been jointly trademarked by DC Comics and Marvel Comics to describe entertainment on television, film, and printed media (U.S. Trademark Serial Nos. 72243225 and 73222079). However, as an attempt to avoid the trademark, “super-hero” with a hyphen has sometimes been used as a generic spelling that covers all such heroes. In March 2006, DC and Marvel attempted to register “super-hero” as well. So what other terms exist, that won’t get me sued? lol “mystery men or masked hero”?

Well other then most of their characters which are copyrighted to the points they are. You can’t use the likenesses of say Spider-Man, Wolverine or any other character without Marvel’s consent for advertising and more of course.

I believe Marvel has copyrighted the word Marvel for character use also. Well at least Captain Marvel. Likely a few other various names.

I’m not sure there are quite a few things copyrighted but I don’t follow copyrights. I’m not sure what is copyrighted all out by everyone like that. Maybe mutants by Marvel though.

3- “Form-fitting clothing, often referred to as tights or spandex, although the exact material is usually not identified. Such material displays a characte’s athletic build.” Has it ever been explained as to what this “material” actual is?

Depends on who’s wearing it.

Spider-Man: (Before armor) The standard costume is a form-fitting fabric covering his entire body. From the waist down, it is dark blue, except for mid-calf boots with a black web pattern on a red background. From the waist up, the fabric is the red-and-black web pattern, except for his back, sides, and insides of his upper arms, which are dark blue. There is a large red spider outline on his back, and a smaller black spider emblem on his chest. The mask has large white eyes rimmed with black that allow him to see but hide his eyes. He is sometimes depicted with “under-arm webbing” connecting his arms to his torso.

Captain America: Composed of a fire-proof weave with a chain mail upper body armor
FF: made of ‘unstable molecules’ so that it can be used with their powers safely.

Iron Man: armor

Let’s go toWikipedia like you did:
A superhero’s costume helps make him or her recognizable to the general public, both in and outside of fiction. Costumes are often colorful to enhance the character’s visual appeal. Costumes frequently incorporate the superhero’s name and theme. For example, Daredevil resembles a red devil, the design of Captain America’s costume echoes that of the American flag, and Spider-Man’s costume features a web pattern. It is known that the idea of superheroes wearing skin-tight costumes came from Lee Falk’s comic strip creation The Phantom.

Many features of superhero costumes recur frequently, including the following:
Superheroes who maintain a secret identity often wear a mask, ranging from the domino masks of Green Lantern and Ms. Marvel to the full-face masks of Spider-Man and Black Panther. Most common, however, are masks covering the upper face, leaving the more indistinguishable jaw and neck areas exposed. This allows for both a believable disguise and recognizable facial expressions.

A symbol, such as a stylized letter or visual icon, usually on the chest. Examples include Captain Marvel’s thunderbolt and the lowercase “i” of the Incredible Family.
Form-fitting clothing, often referred to as tights or spandex, although the exact material is usually not identified; in cases where it is it may often be explained as due to the material being made from instable molecules. Such material displays a characte’s athletic build. The overall appearance, when one comes right down to it, ostensibly is nude figure drawing.

The fact that most male superheroes are muscular in build and wear form-fitting clothing rarely receives comment, yet the idealized figures and sometimes scanty costumes of superheroines has lead to some readers to accuse the predominately male comic book industry of sexism.

While a vast majority of superheroes do not wear capes, the garment is still closely associated with them, likely due to the fact that two of the most widely-recognized superheroes, Batman and Superman, wear capes. The comic book series Watchmen and the movie The Incredibles, among other media sources, humorously commented on the impracticality of capes.

While most superhero costumes merely hide the hero’s identity and present a recognizable image, parts of some costumes have functional uses. Batman’s utility belt and Spawn’s “necroplasmic armor” have both been of great assistance to the heroes. Iron Man, in particular, wears powered armor that protects him and provides technological advantages.

When thematically appropriate, some superheroes dress like people from various professions or subcultures. Zatanna, who possesses wizard-like powers, dresses like a magician, and Ghost Rider, who rides a superpowered motorcycle, dresses in the leather garb of a biker.

Several heroes of the 1990s, including Cable and many Image Comics characters, rejected the traditional superhero outfit for costumes that appeared more practical and militaristic. Shoulder pads, kevlar-like vests, metal-plated armor, knee and elbow pads, heavy-duty belts, and ammunition pouches were common features.

You know what’s interesting to me? This article points out that most heroes don’t wear capes (and I think that’s actually true). I think this is crap and believe we should have more heroes wearing capes. I saw we take up a petition and get our damn heroes in capes! Who’s with me?

4- In superhero role-playing games (particularly Champions), superheroes are informally organized into categories based on their skills and abilities. Such as Martial Artist, Mentalist, Shapeshifter or Size Changer, Brick, Blaster, Archer, Mage, Gadgeteer, Armored Hero, Speedster, etc. Not many heroes can apply to all or even most. These categories often overlap. For instance, Batman is a both a skilled martial artist and gadgeteer and Hellboy has the strength and durability of a brick and the mystic arts abilities of a mage. Very powerful characters, such as Superman, Silver Surfer, and Martian Manhunter, can be listed in many categories; the Manhunter and Silver Surfer both excel in every category except martial arts and gadgetry. Sniff, sniff; do I smell a versus? Any idea on who wins?

Are you asking who wins a fight between Martian Manhunter and Silver Surfer? Now that’s an interesting fight. I love Surfer too. I’m one of the biggest Silver Surfer fans around.

I have to say Surfer. It’s not just because I like him. It’s because Surfer has more powers. He’s one of the most powerful characters in comics. He can take Manhunter atleast.

Wow, Jim, talk about completely missing the point”¦

Cory was asking why in comic role playing games characters usually have to fit a “specified” class when in “reality” most comic characters don’t fit so nicely into a single category.

The answer to this is really quite simple, the characters you chose, Cory, are the way high end of superbeings that you couldn’t really make in champions. Most GM’s aren’t going to give you enough points to make a character anywhere near Superman’s abilities. However, if you look at say the Flash, Daredevil, and many many others they do fit rather nicely into these categories. And the even the ones that don’t fit “nicely” into a category can still be made in Champions. Hellboy for example could be, he’d be a brick with some magic knowledge and ability. The reason Champions and to the same extent City of Heroes on the PC are set up with these categories is to allow you to make a well rounded character that isn’t ridiculously powerful (like say Superman). Also in Champions it makes it much easier to see what a team needs to compliment each other when all of these roles are more easily recognizable.

I hope that answered your question. Let me know if not.

Has there ever been a mentioned battle between SS and Supes?

How about a nice issue called SILVER SURFER/SUPERMAN #1.

writer: George Perez
pencil: Ron Lim

But I don’t think they really fought too much. In fact I think it was more a team up. Not sure they have fought otherwise.

5- Many superheroes have never had a secret identity, e.g. Wonder Woman (in her current version) or the members of The Fantastic Four. Others who once had secret identities, such as Captain America and Steel, have later made their identities public. What other A-listers have also never had an identity and which have recently went public?

No secret identity:

Luke Cage (No longer goes by Power Man)
Hulk. Most people know he’s Bruce Banner at least.
Namor the Sub-Mariner
The Fantastic Four
Nick Fury

Went public:
Iron Man
She-Hulk
Beast
Professor X
Archangel
Black Panther

Outed:
Daredevil
Kingpin
Green Goblin

This is not easy. I’m going off my head here and I know I’m missing characters. I’m going to open this one to the other readers too and Daron.

Interestingly enough, while Marvel has been outing their characters recetntly, we’ve DC going back and putting their “known” heroes in secret identities. The main one being Wally West (The Flash) who spent most of his adult superheroing career with a public I.D. was recently given back his secret I.D.

6- I noticed in D.C that some superhero identities have been used by more than one person. A character takes on another’s name and mission after the original dies, retires or takes on a new identity. Green Lantern, The Flash and Robin are notable mantles that have passed from one character to another. Has Marvel ever had this “recycled identity” factor before?

Numerous times actually

Captain Marvel: Mar-Vell, Monica Rambeau, Genis-Vell, Phyla-Vell
Captain America: Steve Rogers, William Naslund, Jack Mace, Grand Director, John Walker, Roscoe and a few 1 issue replacements)
Captain Britain: Brian Braddock, Betsy Braddock, Kelsey Leigh
Red Guardian: Alexi Shostakov, Tania Belinsky, Josef Petkus and a few unnamed
Human Torch: Robot, Johnny,
Ghost Rider: Johnny Blaze, Daniel Ketch,
Phoenix: Jean Grey, Rachel Summers
Magik: Illyana Rasputin, Amanda Sefton
Hulk: Bruce Banner, Rick Jones
Goliath: Henry Pym, Clint Barton, Bill Foster
All the Hellfire Club
Black Knight: Sir Percy, Sir Raston, Sir Eobar Garrington, Nathan Garrett, Dane Whitman
Black Widow: Natasha Romanoff, Yelena Belova
Marvel Boy: Martin Burns, Robert Grayson, Wendell Vaughn, Vance Astrovik, Noh-Varr
Spider-Man: Peter Parker, Ben Reily
Punisher: Frank Castle, Lynn Michaels, Jimmy Pierce, Nigel Higgins, Eddie Dyson, Desmond Kline, Carlos Cruz, Dean Swaybrick
Baron Zemo: Heinrich Zemo, Helmut Zemo
Citizen V: Helmut Zemo, Dallas Riordan
Ms Marvel: Carol Danvers, Sharon Ventura

I can go one for hours here. It’s a common practice as you can see. Both companies do it.

7-Technically Wonder Woman, while not a goddess, is a member of the Amazon tribe of Greek mythology. So, in a way, she and Storm are both like demi-goddesses huh? Did that play any role in their past battle, like 2 women looked upon as royalty in straight fisticuffs?

Let’s put this one this way. The one and only time these two fought was in Marvel vs. Dc. Storm won the match even though Wonder Woman had Tho’s hammer for the fight. But I can’t recall the goddess stuff being used to much with the fight.

8- Speaking of Storm, since we all know her powers, what are her limitations? In places like other dimensions, Hell, or another planet…do her powers still work at full usage?

I’m not even sure she has any limits.

I know she’s claustrophobic. That’s one at least.

Let’s cover power:

Ororo is a mutant with the psionic ability to manipulate the weather over the entire planet and take flight. When controlling weather elements, her eyes illuminate a white color and aura. She can manifest any degree of wind, temperature, lightning, storm, and all manner of precipitation, tornadoes and hurricanes. Storm actually has the ability to affect the weather on a cosmic scale, but does not because she is very environmentally conscious. Storm has been known to create cosmic turbulence when a Sentinel was about to affect the Earth with a gamma gun to draw a solar flare from the sun to the Earth. She is one of the most powerful beings on the planet.

Storm is immune to all effects of weather: her body changes to compensate for the extremes she engineered; i.e. her body temperature would rise as she caused her surroundings to become cold. She has the ability to project, focus and aim force blasts of extreme electrical bolts from her hands or the sky using her elemental powers. Storm can alter her visual perceptions so as to see electrical energy patterns in an object and in the air. She can also change the body temperature of anyone by manipulating that temperature and lowering it or raising it. That gives her the stunning ability to drain the electrical energy from mutant’s brainwaves that will literally cause them to lose power. At times, she has been able to use her ability to manipulate wind in a manner that resembles telekinesis, lifting massive objects and hurling them against opponents. She has even been known to stop projectiles such as bullets by using her ability to manipulate the wind. Not only can she stop most physical attacks with her powers, but she can also generate electric fields, magnetic fields, high-density pressure fields, and even electromagnetic fields.

Aside from the abilities granted by her mutation, Ororo is highly intelligent and an able strategist and field commander of the X-Men. She also has some minor telepathic defenses (creating intense electrical currents and indestructible pressure domes that can cut through a mountain.) Her days as a thief have given her mastery of skills normally used by professional thieves, such as stealth, breaking into heavily fortified areas and picking locks (she always keeps a set of lockpicks in whatever current costume she wears). She is also an excellent combatant in both armed and unarmed combat, having been instructed by Wolverine. Storm is a strong, confident, intelligent, caring, loyal, brave warrior, and most sophisticated and demure member of the X-Men

9- Kingdom Come also satirized the anti-heroes; Magog, one of the series’ antagonists, was a parody of Cable. Did DC parody any other noticeable Marvel heroes in this? I been meaning to read it or buy it, anyway.

Oh boy. I’m not a big Dc reader. So this one is not my question. I’m sort of serious. I’ve never read the book. So I’ll go by some people I know.

Mankind Liberation Front = Mutant Liberation Front.
Gulag=The Vault

Other wise I’d need a Dc guy or to read it myself

Well first of, Cory, shame on you for not reading what I think is probably one of the best self contained stories in comic history. Kingdom Come is in my mind, perfect, and you really should read it. However, I really don’t see Magog as a parody of Cable, nor any of the other characters therein. The series is highly based on DC’s own history, and most of the characters are either the classic heroes in a not distant future or newer versions of those same heroes. You should definitely read it, and hell so should you, Jim.

10- In X-men 2, did anyone besides me notice that their was not even a hint of the “family” between Rogue, Nightcrawler, Mystique or even any of the three?

In the movies Rogue never was raised by Mystique at any points. So Rogue wouldn’t have family ties there.

Nightcrawler and Mystique have a small moment in the movie which sort of has a small hint but nothing too major.

11- A few little known facts is that according to the villainous Taskmaster, whose powers allowed him to analyze and copy the mercenary’s fighting style, Deadpool always dodges to the left. Also, Gambit has such respect for Deadpool’s fighting abilities that he once paid him off rather than risk battling him, admitting that fighting Deadpool is comparable to suicide and Deadpool has excellent, believed by many to be perfect, aim (though he’s slightly better with his right hand) Any input on this revelation fellas?

Well those facts are true. Teaskmaster actually can tell that about any character for the most part. He can pick out where and how a person will dodge.

The Gambit thing. I believe happened in Gambit # 17 from 2000.

The Gambit thing is because he’s a GIANT PUSS! I wish Wade would have handed him his tonsils then we would never had to talk about him again!!!

12- Deadpool has actually met and established a relationship with the personification of Death in the Marvel universe and as a result has been cursed by T-Ray, at the behest of Thanos to be unable to die. This is a plot point that may or may not be advocated by some writers. However, Deadpool himself needed to seek outside assistance about the right method to kill himself, so his immortality may still be extant. Hmmm, where does one go to seek such assistance and does immortality seem that bad?

With someone like Deadpool he likely would go see

Bullseye
Loki
Maybe Doc Samson.

I mean it’s Deadpool he’s nuts anyway.

13- In a recent conflict with Spider-Man, Deadpool actually refers to his “Tobey Maguire doe eyes.” This is an obvious reference to the Spider-Man movie. An obvious question that arises is that if Deadpool has seen the Spider-Man film, does he actually know Peter’s secret identity?? Whatcha think?

13b-REMEMBER THIS: (Deadpool #36) shows him in a backflash buying his first real outfit in a costume store (where a whole bunch of superheroes seem to buy their costumes). A little note pinched to the suit read “Thanks but no thanks- S.M.”, obviously referring to Spider-Man.

Early in his original ongoing comic, he also possessed an image inducer built by Weasel, which allowed him to manifest holographic disguises in order to go undercover, conceal his bizarre appearance or just plain goof off. (On one notable occasion, while trapped several years in the past, he used the image inducer to masquerade as Spider-Man’s alter-ego Peter Parker.)

Also the fact that Deadpool broke the Fourth Wall proves that he would know about the movie and likely know Spidey’s real name thanks to it. I’m betting Deadpool knows more identities too

14- The similarities, with ole Slade Wilson have been lampooned in the Deadpool comics, with Deadpool claiming, in the letters section, that he doesn’t want to appear in a DC crossover for fear that someone will notice his striking similarities to a certain DC character (referring, of course, to Deathstroke). I think he can take Deadshot, though Bullseye maybe a better match. But Deathstroke…hmmm, both are immortal now, any ideas on a victor between the 2? And I know this will never happen but think of their respected actors for cartoons (Ron Pearlman) or otherwise (Ryan Reynolds), and their personalities. Not only do they fit, put are a fanboys dream. One serious, one unstable…like Lethal Weapon for mercenaries, lol. I can see it now, a monthly title between DC/Marvel “Stroke & ‘Pool”. ::I have just woken up from my dream, now::

Hahaha yep both are very similar. I have a strange feeling that it might even be a draw in a fight since both are that much the same. I like the idea of a team up book even you have but it’s not going to happen any day in our lives I don’t think.

BTW 15- David Goyer (Batman Begins screenwriter) has expressed interest in a Deadpool motion picture. At recent interviews, actor Ryan Reynolds has told of monthly meetings with Avi Arad over the possibility of a Deadpool or Sub-Mariner motion picture, with him as the lead role of either Wade Wilson or Namor. Due to increased fan backing of the project, the idea is getting closer and closer to being made, with Avi Arad’s son being a “hardcore Deadpool fan” helping the cause.

I would go see it. Hell I’d really like to see Deadpool more then some other characters. Deadpool is just one of those characters that would make a great movie character

Thanks guys, Cory’s back in full effect…though I can’t say the same for Thor, yet! SO Daron, what do u think about Gambit’s new “apocalyptic promotion” ?

Later

Welcome Cory. I’ll say this. Keep your eyes open for Thor soon. I think he’ll be back during the Civil War.

And see above for my comments on Gambit, I’m trying to keep them to one post per questioner.

Jeff Ritter emails again

Howdy ho, Jim! And DOL, you sawed-off little Magneto wannabe…
I like your idea about a Top10 books deserving of more readers. I’ll do that when I get done with the “Minority Report” columns, which will be running for at least a couple weeks yet.

Cool. I’m glad you took my idea. In fact I’m going to do this one myself as a challenge this week. I’m not sure you’ll agree and I’m betting you’ll have some non-Marvel but today I’ll do a top 10 Marvel deserving more readers

1. Thunderbolts
2. Cable/Deadpool
3. Thing
4. She-Hulk
5. Black Panther
6. X-Factor
7. Four
8. Spider-Girl
9. Runaways
10. Marvel Team-Up

Wanted to ask: WHO THE HECK IS SUNPYRE??? He was listed in your family list under Clan Yoshida, but he didn’t ring any bells. And for my vote, the Rasputins are REALLY more powerful than people realize. Colossus is the lightweight of the bunch.

You don’t know Sunpyre?

Real Name: Leyu Yoshida
Place Of Birth: Agarashima, Japan
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men 392
Group Affiliation: Former member of the X-Men and X-Corps
Base Of Operations: Japan
Notable relatives: Sunfire (brother), Shingen Harada (cousin), Silver Samurai (half-cousin), Mariko Yashida (half-cousin)

History: Leyu Yoshida and her brother Shiro were born to a mother who suffered radiation poisoning due to exposure to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. As a result, she and her brother were born mutants, possessing identical powers. Her brother would go on to be the well-known Japanese superhero Sunfire.

Leyu first appeared, during the Eve of Destruction storyline, when she joined the X-Men for a single mission, to help fight Magneto. She went in place of her brother, who was unavailable at the time.

Banshee later requested her to join his X-Corps (again replacng Sunfire, who didn’t want to join). She served with the team until she was killed when members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants hijacked the group.

I’d say you’re probably right about the Rasputin’s too, except that until really recently they were ALL dead! And now as you say, only the lightweight is even around. But yes, in their hay day they probably were one of the strongest families in the Marvel U.

Wanted to throw out a hypothesis: I don’t go around seeking spoilers, so I’m just throwing this out for public pondering. That big glowing naked dude that “killed” Alpha Flight in the pages on Avengers recently? He said his name was “Michael” right? And then Spidey said he knew who he was at the end of the most recent issue, leaving the cliffhanger revelation for next month. So I’m thinking, who does Pete know named Michael who would fall from space and march across Canada? And only two names came to mind.

1) Michael Korvac–I’m not completely sure that Spider-Man would have had anything to do with him though. The Korvac Saga was way back in the Avengers #100s days. But I seem to recall a lot of guest star characters and I don’t know that Spidey wasn’t one of them. Michael had a cosmic element and is capable of a LOT of mayhem, but I also just remembered he didn’t have any legs and was grafted to a hoverchair. Kinda hard to make like a flaming Forrest Gump without legs. More like Lt. Dan. Which brings me to…

2) The Beyonder–Spider-Man would certainly know the Beyonder, since he came into contact with him during the Secret Wars (and found the symbiote that would become Venom too). The Beyonder is capable of doing ridiculous things like falling from the sky and marching through Canada’s Superheroes (with their beady eyes and floppy heads) like a hot knife through butter. And unlike Korvac, who Iron Man and Cap and most former Avengers like Ms. Marvel would have remembered or learned about by browsing case files while on monitor duty, I don’t know that as many of them would know the Beyonder. My big weak link here–what’s the Beyonder’s name? Is it really Mike?

I could look it up, but I’m lazy and like trying to figure things out on my own. I’m probably the only guy in the world who DOESN’T already know who he is. So there’s my guesses. Am I even on the right track?

First I think the Beyonder took the name Frank on Earth. I could be wrong but I think it was Frank.

As for Michael Korvac I believe your right that Spidey never met him. But Spidey is smart enough to look at the list. He saw all the powers and everything this guy had. It was all the power of the former mutants. The power that was taken in Decimation. He might have just figured out that’s what this guy is. Why he’s named Michael is a mystery.

>

And DOL, for the record, I didn’t like the structure of that sentence I sent last week about Cable’s XXXXXXL Shoulder Pads (TM) either, but I think everybody got the visual. They’d have to knock down a wall and play it across two screens to do X-Force right in all its full Liefieldian glory. But wouldn’t Elisha Cuthbert make a sexy Boom Boom (Meltdown)? Tell Daron to quit drooling, he’ll rust his helmet…both of them.

All the best, as always,

X-Force could make a good movie but Cable might be better alone too. You know, do the Cable movie and then X-Force. But please no more Rob Liefeld. I really didn’t like his art.

Hell I like the pic for Boom Boom to. Damn I just had to add her pic just to prove your point.

And what’s wrong with a little rusty helmet?

Besides, it’s my girlfriend who’s infatuated with Elisha”¦

just wanted to ask 2 questions about what is going on in planet hulk right now.

1. since i am not reading the annihilation books i was wondering if there is any correlation with the silver surfer’s series and how he ended up on “planet hulk”?

At the moment No. But remember that Annihilation could be before Planet Hulk or after. The writer of Silver Surfer Annihilation mini series still has 3 issues to cover it. The full Annihilation series will take time to cover. We have the 4 mini series and then a Annihilation series after. Also there is a Silver Surfer series coming out later as well by J. Michael Straczynski. I expect them to cover it sometime soon.

I have a feeling that maybe Annihilation will be before Planet Hulk for his reason. The Annihilation Wave in the story is destroying worlds and even galaxies

2. is this bright light that the brood alien is referring to that blew up the its’ homeworld anything that has showed up before in a previous story? thanks.

Read above for a bit there. Annihilation might explain how the Brood world was destroyed too. They are still in the process of doing the series so it might happen down the line.

Now there is also a possibility that he came from Sleezeworld. The planet was destroyed way back in Uncanny X-Men # 166. Would mean he’s been there for quite some time

ok so i have another question. i stopped reading young avengers after the 1st arc. how is hulkling related to the mar-vel family and how is wiccan part of the maximoff family? i’m basing this on this past weeks handbook.

Hulkling is actually the son of Captain Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell and Princess Anelle had a son during the Kree/Skrull War. While the heroes later escaped, the Emperor’s daughter conceived a child with Mar-Vell. At birth, the child was immediately exiled and grew up on Earth as Teddy.

Wiccan: He is the son of Wanda Maximoff with Thomas Shepherd. Tommy and Billy in fact are Thomas and William, the twin sons of the Scarlet Witch and Vision long thought to be mere fragments of Mephisto’s soul – like the Scarlet Witch and her twin brother, Quicksilver, Billy and Tommy possess magic and super-speed powers respectively, and Tommy also shares Quicksilver’s platinum blond hair.

Must read picks of the week

It’s that time again everyone. This weeks top 3 Marvel books of the week.

1. Civil War 1 (Michael Turner) – THE LANDSCAPE OF THE MARVEL U IS CHANGING AND IT’S TIME TO DECIDE: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?
A conflict has been brewing in the Marvel Universe for over a year, threatening to pit friend against friend, brother against brother–and all it will take is a single misstep to cost thousands their lives and ignite the fuse! As the war claims its first victims, no one is safe as teams, friendships, and families begin to fall apart. Civil War, a Marvel Comics event in seven parts, stars Spider-Man, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the entirety of the Marvel pantheon! Civil War – the cross-over that rewrites the rules – begins here in this double-sized first issue!

Good start. Hell I think this one will be better then House of M and others. Keep an eye here for updates as always. Go grab your issue today.

2. Exiles 80 – “WORLD TOUR: FUTURE IMPERFECT” The World Tour is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the Exiles are out of the woods quite yet. Another Exile has yet to fall to Proteus, and it happens here! Will the Exiles be able to pick up the pieces after losing another one of their own!? Part 2 (of 2)!

I liked this one. I personally liked this one because it went to one of the best Hulk stories ever and really Exiles did it right. Good story all around.

3. Annihilation Silver Surfer 2 – The ex-heralds of Galactus unite to combat a common foe. But can even the combined powers of the Silver Surfer, Firelord, Terrax and Red Shift stand against the Annihilation Wave and it’s mad master? And what dark ambition motivates Thanos to strike a dark alliance with the invading force?

I’m enjoying this one the most of all the Annihilation books. I’m a big Surfer fan. I like how we’re seeing other heralds to. Galactus is back to. They explain it somewhat in the book how it’s possible he came back.
