Stuff @ The Start

Why I’m Late Well on Thursday, the night I’m usually typing this column, I went with some coworkers to go see M:I:3. Being Vegas, there were plenty of places to hang out and debate the flick after the midnight show ended. Yadda yadda yadda; I got home around a quarter to 5…AM.

I’ll Never Catch Up I’m so far behind on my viewing. Aside from my random episodes of My Name is Earl, The Simpsons and The Office that I need to watch, I barely watched any of this week’s programming. Here a list of this week’s shows that I’ve yet to watch;

Theif
Desperate Housewives
24
Love Monkey
Boston Legal
Lost
Smallville

I’m so screwed.

What I Did Watch This Week

24 – I caught the previous two weeks episodes and I was kind of impressed. I’m still hoping that Audrey dies. I’m still rooting for Pres. Logan. I’m also glad to see that Curtis is back on the case, though it appears at the price of Wayne taking an uber backseat.

The whole drama at CTU was nice. I’d rather have people come to their senses about trusting Jack, and follow blindly.

Prison Break – I’m all caught up! This show rocks when watching in succession. That instant gratification of knowing the cliffhanger will be resolved immediately is hard to beat. I didn’t like the introduction of the father. I also disliked the downplaying of Kellerman. Kellerman needs to have a larger role, like he did in the beginning.

It was cool to see Michael accelerate his plan, and great to see Peter Stormare make his triumphant return to the show (sporting a snazzy new haircut as well). However his beef with T-bag is testing my loyalties. Eh, but I’ll go deeper into Prison Break later.

The Unit – Since City of Men was a repeat, it was nice to get my Rio fix in. Even the stuff on the home front was tolerable this time around. It was nice to see Hector get some play and character development. This really is such a pleasurable show to watch.

Boston Legal – I did enjoy the episode when Denny shot his shrink, but mostly for Kerry Washington’s guest spot. I loved how the writers handled the situation; with completely candidness. But Denny was pretty enjoyable too.

Smallville – I’ve got a real problem with how Clark handled his invisible hitman, but I’ll get to that in a second. I’m going to go on the record with my approval of the Lex/Lana fling. I dig it. I like it because the two character I’m the most attracted to, Lex (as a character) and Lana (she’s way cute).

But my question is why didn’t Clark use any of his vision powers when dealing with his invisible foe? Clearly the guy was just invisible and not intangible, why didn’t Clark just throw on some X-ray action and be done with it? Whatever.

Gray’s Anatomy – Finally a new episode! I love this show so much that I made sure that watched it. It seemed a bit dramatic, but then again it was trying to make up for lost time.

I usually dig Alex, because we’ve both got issues with authority, but when he went up against Addison, I sided with her. Y’see I’ve got a thing for redheads. Addison might possibly stand a chance of catching one. I completely dug Derek’s look when he saw Meredith at the vets. I also dig Bailey in every regard. I didn’t dig George’s new haircut.

Thief – I love this show. The scenes between Nick and Mae are so powerful. I’m actually torn about not watching this week’s episode yet. I’m eager to watch it, but I don’t want to rush it. It’s such a great show. Even Malik Yoba does a good job!

Had I watched those episodes when they aired, they would have the greatest show ever. The show is that good. The acting is amazing. When Mae drops the “N” bomb on Nick, uh, what a scene. Plus the actual heist was tense and well done. TV really doesn’t get much better than this show.

Scrubs – Yes, more of Prison Break’s Kellerman! This week’s episode was funny, but came too close to being “touchy feely.” It was still hilarious, but it just seemed to have too much of a message.

Huff – Man, is Teddy worrying me. Sure he’s on the right path for right now, but for how long? I so want him to get better. Izzy’s DWI was pretty humorous. And Izzy walking in on Beth’s prayer circle was hilarious.

What was up with Byrd’s absence? He’s in one episode, gone the next two. Sure Russell’s escapades were more than enough to distract, but I need me some Byrd. Speaking of Russell, he slayed me in his scenes, particularly post the drug introduction. He certainly gave the performance of the week.

Big Love – Eh, the episode was ok, but it didn’t knock my socks off. The stuff with the three houses still being too small just seemed a bit forced. Though I did appreciate the negative effects of the ED drugs coming into play.

Real Time With Bill Maher – I just wanted to give this show some acknowledgement because Sir Ian McKellen doesn’t drive. And neither do I. I was slayed to hear him advocating that people abandon their vehicles, especially since I’ve dealt with years of being treated like a fool because I don’t know how to drive.

Greatest Show Ever…this week – Weeds

So I’m all caught up on this show. I caught the last two episodes of season one and this is quite possibly the best half hour on TV.

Seeing Nancy get busted by campus security was funny, yet believable. Celia’s usurping the mothers group was priceless. Silas rolling was hysterical. I truly believed that he was on E. And when he hit his brother for losing the lighter, I felt it. He hit him like a grown ass man!

The scenes with Andy and Doug are always highlights. But Sanjay has become my favorite character on the show. He cracks me up every time he shows up. The finale where Nancy puts on Peter’s coat was great. I noticed the letters on the jacket when the first showed up and my heart sank. My roommate didn’t notice until the complete reveal, but we were blown away.

This show is like a gazillion times better than Desperate Housewives in every regard. It’s got great writers and a phenomenal cast. It’s clearly the best show ever.

Prison Breakdown

Column loyalist Colin dropped me the following;

I need to rant a bit about Prison Break dude

I’m starting to get really disappointed with the turn coming from the chick lawyer’s partner. I’m already on the fence about the show, because it seems overly complicated and they’re writing in circles, but I do like it. But if the partner is setting the chick up to fail, it’s inexcusable.

I remember when she suspected him of betraying her very early on, and I immediately dismissed it because there was no point. She was at a complete dead end in her case. There was nothing she could do. Nothing. And then he came along and pointed her in the right direction. So if he’s trying to make he fail, I say Boo-urns.

Then again, I could be being premature and he’s betraying her in a different way altogether.

Let me first say that I generally tune out when we’re outside the prison walls, unless Kellerman is on the screen. When the lawyer and her sidekick were on this week, my roommate and I were debating which of Michael’s women were more attractive. I said the doc, she said the fake wife.

The problem with that storyline is that we aren’t that pressed for Linc to get exonerated, we just want him to break out.

However there is the chance that Linc’s ex’s partner is only on the case because Abruzzi put him on it to find the snitch. He knows that Michael knows, and Michael is still reluctant to give it up. In fact hasn’t Michael reneged already? So the lawyer goes to the meeting up spot and is used as bait for Michael to give up the info.

Of course the lawyer is reluctantly aiding Abruzzi, maybe it goes back to the “old neighborhood” or maybe Abruzzi put him through law school. Who knows?

In fact my theory might not even be plausible, I’m not 100% sure that the lawyer showed up after Michael lost his toe. And perhaps Abruzzi is calling in a favor, but he just did so within the past few weeks. Maybe the guy wasn’t bad from the start. But that’s what I’m working with right now.

I agree that the show is writing in circles, but I don’t mind it. It’s like a summer blockbuster, on a weekly basis. It’s an enjoyable show that’s fun to watch. Just don’t take it too seriously.

Red State vs Blue State?

Good News; you’re rich. Bad News; you’re moving. Good News; you get to take your family. Bad News; there will be a degree of adjustment involved. Maybe you’re a city person who’s moving to the country. Maybe you’re a country bumpkin who’s moving to the city. Who knows? The point is you’re in transition. Good News; your theme song will rock regardless. Bad News; there’s a chance a horrible movie will be based on your show.

So, would you rather be on The Beverly Hillbillies or Green Acres?.

Colin provided us with our sole response this week;

I think I have to go with Green Acres. I want no part of Beverly Hills. Give me the country any day.

This is yet another tough call. I’ve lived in Iowa, which is kind of country or at least small town. But I’ve also lived in urban Baltimore. Honestly, I’ve got go with Beverly Hills, if only for the mass transit that Cali has. I’m a mass transit dude. Plus I’m going to have more access to my two other loves; Music and Comics.

Of course this brings us to…

Good News/Bad News/Question of the Week

Good News; you’ve got your health. Bad News; you’ve been evicted. Maybe you should have turned your music down. Perhaps your apartment is going to turn into condos. Regardless, you’ve got to find a place to stay. Good News; you can afford some pretty decent digs. Bad News; you can’t afford to live alone. Good News; you’ve got some options for roommates. Bad News; the options are kind of limited.

So, would you rather move in with Oscar and Felix (The Odd Couple) or Larry and Balki (Perfect Strangers)?

Josh seems at a loss with his Tourney. Still he finds time to squeeze out a nifty read. He also beat me to it this week.

Damn Joe (I love a woman that Reids)

Joe’s Blog shows why he’s not to messed with in terms of American Idol. I can can’t wait to read his thoughts on M:I:3.

Yup, you’ve reached the end. Who knows that next week will hold. Laters.
