Looking Ahead – 9th May 2006

Time for a refresh I think.

Sorry for missing last week, but my computer decided to throw a fit and have a hard disk failure, and with only half an hour to spare before I had to leave for work I decided against writing anything that looked remotely like a column (what’s new) and just left it at that.

This week however we’ve got loads of news, views, predictions and speculations to cram on this page, so take a gander at the new and improved layout and gimmie some feedback lovin’ or hatin’, at the usual address.

SMACKDOWN

Next PPV – Judgment Day; 21/05/06

The Announced Card

JBL vs. Rey Mysterio – World Heavyweight Championship Match
I think it’s smart that both the IC title and the US title are around both World Champion contenders just before the ECW revival kicks off. To me, this looks like the WWE wants to get the secondary titles more exposure so they mean more when ECW introduces the World and possibly TV title when the fed returns in a few months time. Although I love Mysterio as champion, I think JBL will win the match as he’ll be the backup opponent for RVD at ECW Booty Call, just in case they decide not to go with RVD-Cena or RVD-Edge for whatever reason.

KOTR Tournament Final – Booker T vs. Lashley
Seeing as how Finlay beat Benoit thanks to a well placed shot to the throat from a steel chair, I’ll go out on a limb (not really) and say Benoit will interfere during the Finlay – Lashley match, costing Finlay the victory.

The Undertaker vs. The Great Khali
Did anybody twig onto the fact that all 3 men in the cruiser qualifying match that Khali destroyed were all ex ECW alumni? This could be used as an angle to shift all three guys over to ECW when the time comes. Notice I haven’t said anything about the match? There’s a reason. It will suck hard.

Melina vs. Jillian
When the f*ck did this happen? This is what I get for not paying attention to Smackdown last week. I think I may have been making a sandwich when this was announced. Good times. Anyway… I’m guessing this is just PPV filler, so Melina will walk out the winner.

Speculation…

With only 4 matches being announced so far, there’s plenty of room for another 3 or 4 matches.

Finlay vs. Benoit
Yes! Finally were going to get a lovely hard hitting feud from the two technical brawlers known as Fit Finlay and Chris Benoit. Eric S must be jumping for joy.

MNM vs. The Hooliganz – WWE Tag Team Titles
With the Hooliganz being one of only two face tag teams in Smackdown, I’ll go with them winning the tag straps, as I think MNM will all get drafted to Raw, if the draft does indeed happen. That, plus Gymini have been getting a gradual push recently, so I’m assuming they’re being groomed for a future feud with the soon to be tag champs.

Gregory Helms vs. Nunzio vs. Kid Kash vs. Super Crazy – WWE Cruiserweight Title Match
It’s screaming out to me that we’ll get a fatal fourway match at Judgment Day for the cruiserweight strap. Seeing as how The Great Khali interrupted the number one contender’s match on Smackdown last week, I’m going to assume Teddy Long will announce that all three men will have a shot at the gold.

Paul Burchill vs. Road Warrior

With the Road Warrior being the guy who ended Burchills’ singles winning streak, they could make a short feud out of this if creative could be bothered.

ECW

Next PPV – ECW One Night Stand; 11/6/06

The Announced Card

No Matches Announced Officially

Speculation…

RVD vs. John Cena, Edge, Triple H or JBL. Take your pick.

Many, many IWC writers have all written about who they think would be the better opponent for RVD at One Night Stand. Personally, I’d like to see any 4 of these men face RVD.

Cena would get off the charts heel heat. Edge can do hardcore matches and is willing to take pretty high risk spots. HHH is great at using psychology in his matches, and with the ECW crowd knowing about his relationship with the McMahons he’s a great poster boy for the “Management” that the ECW fans would hate. JBL has history with ECW from the last One Night Stand, so he’d also be an ideal opponent for RVD.

The thing that bothers me about this is that everybody’s assuming RVD will win. I don’t think he will somehow.

You’re probably asking how they’d kick off the ECW revival angle if RVD didn’t win, and to answer your question, I’ve no f*cking idea.

Just imagine the heel heat that any of those guys would have though if they beat RVD on his home turf, so to speak.

Other Matches

A few months ago, when the story broke that there was going to be another One Night Stand, I “fantasy booked” the PPV. Now, with the added knowladge of the people who have currently signed with WWE, this is what I think would be an awesome PPV lineup.

RAW

Next PPV – Vengeance; 25/6/06

The Announced Card
No Matches Announced Yet

My Predictions

WWE Championship

It’s hard to predict what the outcome of the match will be when we don’t really know what’s happening with the WWE title after One Night Stand. So there’s not much point in speculating about this just now.

The McMahons’ vs. DX

Is it just me, or does anybody else think this is just a huge play by Triple H and Vince McMahon to screw HBK once and for all?

Think about it people. For a start, HHH has been rumored to be resisting turning face. Secondly, we all know HHH called Vince “Old Man” a couple of times on TV. And what better way for creative to reveal the real-life relationship between HHH and Vince then by having both men to be in cahoots together at Vengeance, when DX “reunites” to take on The McMahons?

Speculation…

We may possibly see the crappy feud between Kane and The Big Show continue to Vengeance. With rumors about Big Show semi-retiring and him being used as a “special attraction” I’ll go for Kane winning the feud.

Oh, and apparently the whole deal with May 19th is that’s the date a few years back when he first debuted attacking The Undertaker, so if there is a draft this year, we might see an Undertaker – Kane feud. Again.

Joy.

The Spirit Squad will more than likely defend the tag titles against some teams like the odd squad, etc. Personally I’d put the tag titles up for grabs in a fatal fourway match, with 4 members of the spirit squad on two team, Snitsky & Goldust on one team, and another tag team for the fourth.

The IC title will more than likely be defended also, but since RVD holds that, f*ck knows what will happen to it come ONS Aftermath.

5 things to do between now and next week’s column:

1. Download Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ new album. Fuck Flea (not the dead pool guy).
2. Have a bath.
3. Visit InsidePulse because the website you write for sucks, then comment about how unfunny we are in your column. May only apply to a select few.
4. Wave at some random person you don’t know.
5. Piss into the wind.

And that’s it. Thanks for reading!
