Smack YOU! Smackdown Review 12th May 2006

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

We’re in San Diego, California

Hosts are Tazz and Cole

JBL starts the show by coming out for more cheap heat. Fans start a big “619” chant so JBL replies “I’m surprised you know the words in English”. Okay that was quite humorous. JBL says that Rey will get killed tonight by Khali and generally insults the fans about them being Hispanic. He also says that at Judgment Day he will win the title just like he did from Eddie which of course prompts an “Eddie” chant. I really can’t see the logic in JBL becoming a dual champion but when has logic ever really come into play in wrestling? JBL being so overtly racist really is uncalled for two. I mean what’s the point in attacking minorities? I can’t imagine two white Americans sitting around going “Damn that JBL is insulting Mexicans let’s buy a ticket now!”. Most American’s probably agree with him anyway. The segment ends with Rey Mysterio running JBL from the ring.

#1 contender for Cruiserweight Championship at Judgment Day.
Super Crazy Vs Kid Kash Vs Nunzio
Gregory Helms comes down for commentary. I wonder if all three of these guys will jump to the new ECW? Anyway big old fight to start leads to Crazy rolling up Nunzio for two. Kash sends Nunzio out onto Crazy on the outside and dominates out there. Kash gets a kick inside on Crazy for two. They trade pinning moves for two and Crazy gets sent outside. Kash gets a clothesline for two on Nunzio. Kash gets a Moonsault but Crazy saves at two with a top rope conhilo. Crazy gets a standing Moonsault from the top on Kash but Nunzio saves at two. Crazy chokes Nunzio in the corner and a dropkick on Kash. Crazy sets Kash up on the tope rope but Nunzio grabs Crazy to set up a Devastation Device but Crazy gets a pin fall counter and wins the match

WINNER – SUPER CRAZY

*1/4 – Match will get 8 minutes on the PPV at the most. Sometimes I wish the Cruisers would take a stand and demand more of a push but I can understand how they don’t want to risk losing steady income but I mean if 10-12 guys all stood up to management would WWE actually have the balls to fire them all? If all the Cruisers asked for their releases at once would WWE risk losing a whole division? What if the Cruisers could get Rey Mysterio to back them up? I wish they’d do that just because it’s better than them getting treated like shit every week.

Kurt Angle shows up and goes to Teddy Long and demands Mark Henry. Teddy says that the doctors haven’t cleared him to wrestle. Kurt is obviously pissed so Teddy books Henry Vs Angle at Judgment Day.

Gymini Vs Joey Ryan and Mike Wellington
Total squash which Gymini win with the H-Bomb.

Angle decides to leave seeing as he’s got what he wants

Booker T comes out and says that he wants to have his KOTR semi-final with Angle tonight but of course Angle isn’t cleared to wrestle AND has left the arena but Booker decides to ignore that. Booker counts to 10 and Angle of course doesn’t show up. Booker and Sharmel celebrate like Booker just pinned Lou Thez, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Taz and Ric Flair all at once. Man I don’t think I could handle the idiocy of “King Booker”

KOTR Semi-Final
Finlay Vs Lashley
Finlay plays some mind games and they lock up but that leads nowhere. Lashley gets a cool amateur wrestling single leg takedown and tries to turn Finlay over but Finlay makes the ropes. Finlay spits at Lashley and gets a cheap shot in before going to a chin lock. Finlay rakes at Lashley’s face while he has the hold on and drives an elbow into Lashley’s skull before going back to the hold. Lashley fights out and gets a big boot and Press Slam to Stomach Crusher move for two. Lashley gets a big clothesline in the corner and pounds away on Finlay as Finlay begs off. Finlay dodges a charge in the corner and gets in some boots to the face. Finlay chokes Lashley with the ring skirt then the bottom rope. Finlay goes back to the chin lock as the match crawls along. Booker and Sharmel come out to watch as Lashley mounts a comeback. The fight spills outside and catches Lashley in the apron as Lashley was attempting a crazy looking high knee. Man that would have been cool if he had connected.

Commercial

We’re back with Finlay having Lashley in an arm bar. Finlay stays on the arm but gets backed into the corner by Lashley, nothing comes of it however. Finally, after working the arm for what seems like hours in the same hold, Lashley is able to fight back and gets a big overhead suplex and clothesline. Lashley gets a big back body drop and a Running Powerslam. Lashley goes for the spear but runs into Finlay’s knee for two. That was a smart idea actually as there’s no guarantee Lashley could have done the Dominator after the arm work. At least that’s how I interpreted it anyway. Finlay grabs a chair and nails Lashley while the ref is distracted but Lashley no sells it and gets the Spear to advance to the final.

WINNER – LASHLEY

** – Decent and well worked match but the arm work went on for too long and the match had a really slow feeling to it. Post match Lashley threatens Booker T who slinks away to the back.

MNM come down to the ring to brag and stuff. Johnny Nitro does a pretty good Chris Jericho impression if that’s what he was shooting for. Mercury gloats about the beat down on Spanky and London last week. Melina says that MNM will win the match at Judgment Day but Jillian Hall interrupts. Melina says Jillian looked better with the growth. HA PWNED!!! Anyway Spanky and London come out and strip the champs down to their undies and then Jillian does to Melina making her my hero. I guess that means 6 person inter-gender match next week to continue the build for Judgment Day.

Mark Henry Vs Burchill
Burchill isn’t even allowed an offensive manoeuvre. This is probably my punishment by the office for saying each week what everyone knows. Henry sucks simple as and admittedly Burchill’s gimmick isn’t a world beater but at least he’s above average in the ring and clearly puts effort into his performance. Mark Henry is completely talent less except for his acute ability to jump of high places through tables. That pretty much puts him on par with the Head Hunters from FMW and ECW “fame”. Anyway Henry gets it with his crappy front forward slam move. Henry sucks and even Kurt Angle can’t carry him. Hopefully Angle will beat Henry and that will end this tedious main event push. That’s the end of Burchill getting over as well, he wasn’t exactly given a chance really but at least he was motivated in this gimmick

Nunzio and Vito are backstage. Vito says he’ll cheer Nunzio up and take him out on the town. However, as he walks away Orlando Jordan walks over and says that when he was in England he saw a guy just like Vito in drag. Nunzio says Vito is an “Italian Stallion” That does not wear drag and storms off.

The Great Khali w/ Daivari Vs Rey Mysterio
JBL does commentary. Let’s just get this over with. Rey attacks JBL before the match as JBL is ranting and raving. They do the stand off and the size difference is ridiculous. Khali shoves Rey outside and again when Rey comes back in. Rey tries a springboard dropkick but Khali no sells it. JBL attacks Rey on the outside which really doesn’t make a difference. Khali slowly destroys Rey making him look like an absolute jobber and pins him with one foot.

I was insulted by this crap this week. The KOTR continues to at least deliver the goods match wise but the rest of the show was absolutely torrid. And why the hell are the WWE making their WORLD Champion yes that’s WORLD champion look like an absolute jobber. I bet the guy who squashes next week is Razor Ramon just so WWE can finally put the last knife in.
