The Inside Pulse: Glam jams, cock-rock, sleaze-rock and the epitome of L.A. based rock n’ friggin’ roll. They aim for it and they hit their mark. For a band that has had some memorable singles, they don’t disappoint in the ‘decent rock n’ roll’ department. Josh Todd and company still shoot for the dangerous side of rock trying to stay heir apparent to the Guns N’ Roses era but still can’t shake the “hard-edged Counting Crows” comparison they acquired with the last album. There are some damn good outings on this album. There is a nice smattering of crossbreeds; some bluesy rock, some harder sleaze, some pop fundamentals and just enough balladry for the ladies. The energy and talent is certainly still there but it just wasn’t put to the absolute best use. Todd’s lyrics and the fun rock atmosphere lend this disc to at least a couple spins of replayability but there is nothing groundbreaking here. Todd’s new line-up shows they can keep up the Buckcherry sound but is that really what we want from new blood?

Positives: This is an admirable rock album to be released in the face of the new American movement towards harder and heavier. This is just fun, dirty, lyrically aggressive rock ‘n roll. It’s catchy, guitar driven, concert friendly, and good to pop in your changer for a road trip.

Negatives: We are witnessing a good band making a good album in a genre that has run the course of its significance. Good doesn’t cut it in the current supersaturated world of music. This album would have been a smash five to eight years ago but c’mon guys, where have you been?

Cross Breed: Vocals reminiscent of old school Trent Reznor, Ed Roland, Layne Staley, Rob Thomas, Steven Tyler and Axl Rose. Rocks like Guns N Roses, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, The Cult, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind and Old Buckcherry.

Reason to Buy: If you have a previous appreciation for Josh Todd or have actually been holding your breath for the last four years, this album will suit your needs. Borrow it before you buy it.
