[WWE] The Rock: Done With Wrestling?

Archive

In an interview with SLAM!, The Rock — or should I say Mister Johnson — hints that he is done with professional wrestling. Like most interviews on the topic (and a smart move, since the last thing he wants to do is alienate his millions and millions), he doesn’t speak with 100% certainty, but this quotes is as straight-forward as he’s been, WWE.com interviews aside:

“I don’t really have the itch to go back…”

The Rock has maintained a relationship with WWE, appearing on their Web site, promoting movies on the air, etc., even though he hasn’t been on TV in quite a while. Rumors in the dirtsheets and online stated that after Eddie Guerrero’s death was used in WWE TV storylines, The Rock was turned off, and he barely considered coming to Wrestlemania this year. The Rock recently appeared on TNA’s iMPACT! on Spike TV, in a clip with Jeff Jarrett from Spike’s Video Game Awards, sparking rumors that he would do more with WWE’s rival, likely on a promotional level, but nothing has come of that since.

Despite not having “the itch,” and with about a half-dozen movies in various stages of production, he still admits that “When I see events coming up like WrestleMania, I get excited for those guys because I know what’s going to happen,” so — as is the cliché in wrestling — never say never.
