The Comic Bloke’s Review Block #11
By: Chris Delloiacono

I wanted to blast comics in general this week for becoming such a shell of what once made them great. There are so many things that tick me off about the medium, but nothing I say will ever change what they’re doing.

I’ve grown fed up with the industry and I just have few constructive criticisms left to make. It’s apparent that I don’t enjoy much of anything the major companies put out anymore. My passion has evaporated almost entirely for today’s comic books. Most fans don’t seem to want to hear my criticisms and I don’t feel like blasting the medium anymore.

I’ll still be around the Nexus every now and again. I have several TPBs to review, not to mention a few other things in the hopper.

Without any pomp or circumstance here are my final reviews.

Conan #28

“Storyteller”
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Artist: Eric Powell
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

When I was writing a storm of regular reviews each month, it came to the point where I could heap no further praise on the book. I’d said it all, twice! Now, it’s come full circle, and I can’t find much of anything good to say about Conan.

Paying $3 for barely five minutes of entertainment ticks me off. While the issue was well rendered by Eric Powell, of Goon fame, the story was mediocre at best. It added nothing fresh to the Conan experience. And, to be blunt, I don’t need to see Conan creator, Robert E. Howard, jammed into the story. Conan has been treading water for months.

Conan has taken a drastic downhill dive over the past six months. Mike Mignola joins the fray for a filler arc starting next month. Frankly, I’m sick of swimming around in an ocean of filler. This is where we part ways. It’s probably the perfect point, to be honest. Eventually I might get around to picking up the TPB collection from the spot I left off. Unfortunately, it probably will be later, rather than sooner.

Score: C

Moon Knight #2

“The Bottom” Chapter Two
Writer: Charlie Huston
Penciller: David Finch
Inker: Danny Miki
Colorist: Frank D’Armata
Publisher: Marvel Comics

The first issue was a solid experience, but it was rather light on story. This issue actually is worse. Talk about stretching a single story out so it’s one teeny, tiny morsel that can’t hold any weight.

Al Bundy lasted longer in bed than it took me to read this comic. Marvel won’t be getting my cash on these twenty-two pages that have a sole purpose of padding a trade.

Score: D

DMZ #7

“Body of a Journalist” Part 2
Writer: Brian Wood
Artist: Riccardo Burchielli
Colorist: Jeromy Cox
Publisher: Vertigo

Wood’s script continues to reveal new wrinkles in the wild world he’s created.

Burchielli’s artwork is a pleasure to behold each month.

I have no complaints when it comes to DMZ and that is such a relief.

Score: BChip of the Week!!!

Peace out!
