The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Yes..I’m on vacation. Actually, it’s right before I go on vacation as I write this. I will give you all the dirty details next week. But back to what I was saying..yes..I’m on vacation, but I got asked by the big boss man, Murtz, to do another tournament in this very column. Everyone LOVED (I think) my “Best Show on TV” tournament. He wanted me to do another one. He already had a topic in mind. What might that be? Well..it has to do with one reality TV show that happens every summer. It also happens to be my favorite reality TV show. If you don’t know by now, that show is ‘Big Brother’!

The 7th edition of ‘Big Brother’ will start on Thursday, July 6. This one is a special edition of the show. It’s the “All-Star” edition. The best houseguests from the past 6 seasons will be invited to come back and play this time around. But CBS loves to throw in twists with this game. This year..YOU get to decide which houseguests make the cut! The fans of the show get to vote in the players for this year’s edition. They will be narrowing the list down to 20 candidates and giving you that list on Wednesday, June 21.

Now then..you must be asking yourself..”what does that have to do with us, the loyal readers of InsidePulse and ‘The Weekly Pulse: TV’s Second Wife’?” Well..that is where this new tournament comes in. You see..Murtz likes ‘Big Brother’ as well and since it usually dominates summer viewing for everyone, it’s a big deal for CBS. He wanted me to come up with a “Best ‘Big Brother’ Houseguest EVER” tournament. I said sure..he’s the boss..after all.

I quickly got to work. I was a late-comer to the ‘Big Brother’ scene. I only saw seasons 4, 5, and 6. So I had to go back and review the previous seasons. If only I could actually watch these past seasons. Anyways..I dug up some dirt. CBS.com had most of the information on their website. Once I had all the information, I created the tournament. The first round matchups have been set up and everything is ready to go. Keep reading to see the first round matchups and how YOU can vote in the tournament. Hopefully..everyone will vote in this and tell all your friends, who may or may not be fanatics of ‘Big Brother’! It should be fun for everyone!

But before we get there, we have to look back at the week that was here at IPTV! Happy reading!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“Oh yeah? Well I had sex with your wife!”George

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Can You Feel The Heat?!?!

Mathan Erhardt is still behind on his TV watching. He has also fallen in love with ‘Thief’. It has stolen his heart! Get it? Anyways he comments on ‘Huff’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Prison Break’, ‘Scrubs’, ‘Monkey Dust’, ‘The Unit’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, and ’24’. That makes me 2 for 8 this week and batting .250. That’s much better. Maybe if Mathan watches less shows each week..I will continue to do better. Anyways..he finishes by looking ahead to some shows he will be watching this summer! And none of them are named ‘Big Brother’! Check it out!

Sarah Quigley loved last week’s edition of ‘The Apprentice’! Why? Something to do with steaks and onions and socks and..I don’t remember really. That is why you have to go read it for yourself and read all her other comments on that show! Go now!

Dora Malone continues where she left off from last week. She previewed the finale of ‘Survivor’ before it aired! See what she had to say and look for comments on the finale to come next week!

Romo is a happy man this week. It’s time for all the major networks to announce their fall lineups a.k.a. “upfront” time! First up..was NBC! Could be an interesting fall for them, but I am more interested in their “summer” lineup. Next up..was ABC! And that one sucked just a little bit as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ gets moved to Thursdays at 9 p.m. Yes..that is the best slot for every network to have their best show at, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is the highest rated show for ABC. However, there is more competition in that slot and that could hurt ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and their ratings. We will see, though. After that..we got CBS and a new network that is supposed to fille the “hole” left behind with the merger of The WB and UPN. That new network is called MyNetworkTV! I don’t care about that network at all, but if you like soap opera..you may want to check it out if it’s available on your TV in the fall. As for CBS, I liked all their changes. ‘The Amazing Race’ moves to Sundays and that may help CBS defeat ABC on that night since ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is moving to Thursdays now. I still think ‘Love Monkey’ should be brought back, but you can’t win them all!

DeeDee is actually happy that Chris is gone from ‘American Idol’. Well..besides the fact that she will be on the next Girls Gone Wild video! Look out for THAT! Anyways she is your stop for ‘Americal Idol’ talk before this week’s episode occurred! You know the drill!

Matt Basilo found a continuity error in ‘Seinfeld’. I will have to go back and check on that. He also talks about ‘Smallville’, ‘Survivor’, ‘Lost’, and ’24’. He also threatens harm on anyone involved with ‘The O.C.’ if Summer is to die this week! Not going to happen in my opinion, but we will know by now. All of that and more..perhaps..this week with Matt!

Farah Syed had to have help from a paper bag to breathe as she watched the finale of ‘Veronica Mars’ this past week. It can be a little crazy, when they decide to reveal everything at the last second in these finales, but that’s why you love “finale” time of year. It’s fast and crazy and you just might die while watching it. At least you went out on top of the world, though. But go see what Farah is talking about for yourself! Hurry up!

Patrick Gilchriest finishes his talk of ‘Survivor’ for this season. He does so by talking about the debate of “who deserved to win ‘Survivor’?” He runs down the finale and the final four contestants. This may be his final column..so you better go read it! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Kevin Wong went to a concert and that is somehow related to TV since it was an INXS concert! Go read about that along with his usual stuff that you all know and love! Yes..it’s okay to admit it!

Recaps a.k.a. The End For Most!!

Craig Russell has the sixth season finale of ‘Gilmore Girls’! See you next year Craig!

Bob Reiss finishes his coverage of ‘Survivor’ for this season! On a special Sunday night edition, which I could actually watch! Bob is done with that show!

Romo and Rob Purchase had their combined efforts in recapping ’24’ again this week! 1 more left for them!

Kevin Wong helps crown a winner for ‘The Amazing Race 9’! Was it “Rolonda”, “Frat Boys” or “The Hippies”? He also has the second-to-last episode of ‘American Idol’! We are down to

Steve Murray is still going strong with the new season of ‘The Sopranos’! That should continue into the summer months!

Trevor MacKay brings you the end of ‘Invasion’..one way or another! Enjoy it, while you still can!

This week we had 4 TV on DVD reviews! None by me!

Scott Keith goes back in time to review Dinosaurs – The Complete First and Second Seasons! You don’t remember that show as a kid? Well..go back with Scott!

Bob Reiss had the complete series of Odyssey 5 to review! Never heard of the show like me? Then..click the link and educate yourself! Fans of the show can do the same to find out what Bob thought!

Kevin Wong gets to review a DVD for a show that he used to recap at one time. That DVD and show would be Numb3rs – The Complete First Season! He also has time to do another review this week! He was super busy! This one is The 4400 – The Complete Second Season!

Celebrities a.k.a. Eliza and That OTHER Guy AGAIN!!

Former ‘Survivor’, Eliza, and Murtz have their combined comments on last week’s episode of ‘Survivor’! Along with a preview of the finale! Look for comments on the finale to occur soon!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…“what grade would you give the season season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?” And here are the results:

A – 3
B – 2
C – 0
D – 0
F – 0
I don’t watch the show! – 4

This is what I thought..really. Most people who voted don’t watch the show. That’s okay, but those who did..voted that it was either an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ season, which is what I thought. It was really good and the ratings proved that people watched it more and more as the season went along. Good stuff. Can’t wait until next year.

Now for this week’s question. Well..we start another tournament this week! Keep reading to find out how you can start voting in the “Best ‘Big Brother’ Houseguest EVER!” tournament!!

Time to Talk a.k.a. The “Best ‘Big Brother’ Houseguest EVER” Tournament Begins’!!

There were 6 previous seasons of ‘Big Brother’. BB1 had 10 houseguests, BB2 and BB3 had 12 houseguests each, BB4 had 13 houeguests, and BB5 and BB6 had 14 houseguests each. That meant that there have been a total of 75 houseguests so far on the show. To make the numbers even, I had to eliminate 3 people from the tournament. I looked at the first person voted out of BB6, BB5, and BB3. Ashlea, Mike, and Lori..they were not very memorable to me and thus..decided to cut them loose! So that left 72 houseguests. Almost everyone that has been on the show.

The way this tournament is set up is to narrow down the 72 houseguests into a “Final 12”. That “Final 12” would basically be our choices for the “All-Star” cast of ‘Big Brother’. The official list of candidates and final choices for ‘Big Brother 7’ will probably not be the same for our tournament, but it will be fun to see how close we get. Therefore, I have created 3 groups of 24 houseguests. How did I set up the tournament? I ranked each houseguest on how they finished in their particular seasons. Then I adjusted that ranking so that the first-round matchups would feature houseguests from different seasons. I make no promises for future rounds, but for the first round..no one from the same season will be facing each other.

So we have 3 groups of 24. I decided to do 1 group for 1 week for the next three weeks. Group 1 will be voted on starting today and through next week. Group 2 will go next week and Group 3 will go the week after that. Once that is done..we will have 36 houseguests left. To make the numbers even, the second round will feature 3 houseguests in each matchup. There will be 12 groups of 3. The winners of each of those matchups will be set as our “Final 12”. That will be our “All-Star” cast..more or less. But we won’t stop there. By that time, CBS will be ready to announce the official 20 candidates that everyone can vote for to be in the real show. We, however, will continue our tournament from 12 (maybe a few extras..don’t know yet) until we crown the ULTIMATE and “Best ‘Big Brother’ Houseguest EVER!” It will be fun to see if our winner was actually picked to be on ‘Big Brother 7’ and how well that person does in ‘Big Brother 7’. So there you go. That is how I created the tournament.

To help with your voting, you may need a reminder of who these people were. So I suggest you go to these websites to refresh your memory on Seasons #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6!

Once you have gone there, it’s time to get to voting. But first lets take a look at the brackets:

And as always…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you when I see you!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
