Grey's Anatomy – Recap – Episode 2-26 and 2-27 (Season Finale)

Archive

Part 2 of the season finale of the second season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ was a two-hour episode. However, each hour was titled something different. So it seems that there are two episodes in one here. Both of the final two hours are here, though. Hang on tight!

Grey’s Anatomy – Season Two (Episode 26 {Hour 1 of Season Finale}) – “Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response”

– We see various images of Denny lying on his bed with no heartbeat. The same with Burke as people check on him. Along with this..we get our opening voiceover featuring an “All-Star” cast.

Meredith: Human beings need a lot of things to feel alive.

George: Family…

Cristina: Love…

Izzie: Sex.

Derek: But we only need one thing…

Webber: To actually be alive.

Cristina: We need a beating heart.

Addison: When our heart is threatened…

Alex: We respond in one of two ways.

George: We either run or…

Izzie: We attack.

Webber: There’s a scientific term for this:

Alex: Fight…

Addison: Or flight.

Bailey: It’s instinct…

Meredith: We can’t control it.

Izzie: Or can we?

– Burke opens his eyes and he is alive. Denny is not doing as well. George wants to call for help. Izzie doesn’t think so. Izzie says that Denny has to get worse to get his heart. Izzie threatens violence on George if he calls for help.

Izzie: You press that code button and I will hurt you. Not a lot, because we’re friends. But enough so things will break and you lie on the floor out of my way.

George: Izzie.

Izzie: You have a decision to make, you can stay here and help me with this or you can leave, what’s it gonna be George?

– Dr. Webber sends Cristina away before she sees Burke get rolled in. Cristina is in charge and she is tending to the gunman. Burke is up and he says he is fine. He tries to get up, but Bailey and Webber keep him down. He is still out of it. Cristina finally sees Burke. She knows that the guy who shot Burke is in her hands. She tries to save him, so that he won’t get the pleasure of “getting off easy”.

– Erica tells Alex that if Burke doesn’t return soon..she is going to go in and get the heart.

– Derek comes in to help Burke. The bullet is lodged close to Burke’s arm. Cristina comes in and Burke wants to have a moment with her.

Burke: Cristina…

Cristina: You don’t have to say anything. I know you’re sorry. And I know you didn’t mean to kick me off the transplant and I’m not mad. (pause) I mean I was but I’m not anymore. So don’t worry about it. Don’t even think about it, okay? I mean, all that matters is that you get better and we’ll get through this. I’m here for you, whatever you need. Anything.

Burke: Okay. I need…you to…to check on Denny Duquette.

Cristina: Okay. That was my best supportive girlfriend and you kinda ruined it with medicine.

– Addison talks to a woman named Adele and her niece named Camille. She was at her prom when she lost consciousness during sexual intercourse. This is Dr. Webber’s wife and his niece as well.

Camille: It’s okay Aunt Adele. I’m fine.

Adele: When your Uncle Richard finds out that you were cashin’ in your V-Card none of us will be fine.

– Meredith and Cristina come in to help Izzie and George.

Meredith (Walking in): George’s page said it was an emergency.

Izzie (To George): You paged Meredith?

George: We need help.

Meredith: What the hell is going on?

Cristina (Walking in): What the hell is going on?

Meredith: That’s exactly what I just said.

George: She cut his LVAD wires.

Meredith: What do you mean you cut his LVAD wires?!

Cristina: Are you trying to kill him?

Izzie: I’m trying to save him. All I have to do is confirm his condition condition is worse and then Burke can call UNOS and they’ll move him up on the list and he will get his heart.

Cristina: About Burke…

George (To Meredith): She’s gone insane right, it’s not just me?

Cristina: About Burke…

Izzie: Everything will be fine!

Meredith: Izzie…

Izzie: Because when Burke gets here everything will be fine! He will know what to do.

Cristina: About Burke!

George: What?!

Cristina: He’s been shot.

Izzie: Burke’s not coming.

Meredith: Cristina are you okay?

Cristina: I’m fine.

Izzie: Burke’s not coming.

George: Why didn’t I take the internship in San Diego? None of this would be happening if I was in San Diego.

Izzie: Burke’s not coming?

Cristina: No Izzie, Burke is not coming. I know you’re having problems here, what with your murder charges and your unbelievably stupid idea about stealing a heart but Burkes kinda busy right now.

Izzie (sitting down): Denny’s gonna die. Denny’s gonna die and I killed him.

George: You shouldn’t have done it!

Meredith: George.

George: We have to tell someone.

Meredith: No! Then Denny won’t get the heart and Izzie will get kicked out of the program.

Cristina: I’m leaving.

Meredith: Cristina!

Cristina: You know, Burke could die too. Problems arise all the time because of gunshot wounds. (Izzie mumbles something…) If you just would have thought with your head none of this would have happened!

Izzie (Crying): I did what I thought was best!

(George and Cristina start shouting at Izzie…)

Meredith: Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! No one is leaving and no one is dying.

Denny: Thank you. It’s kinda gettin’ on my nerves all this dyin’ talk.

Izzie: Denny.

Denny: It’s ok. I think uh, I think that we should all listen to Meredith. It looks like she might have a plan.

Izzie: You have a plan?

Meredith: Just gimme a minute.

– Adele tells Richard what is going on with Camille. Webber is upset. Addison comes in and says there are other problems with Camille. Camille had ovarian cancer before. It may be coming back.

– Back to Denny and the gang.

George: That’s a stupid plan.

Meredith: Well, if Burke isn’t coming then we have to confirm Denny’s condition ourselves. We get the blood work, we do the EKO and no one even has to know what Izzie did.

Izzie: But none of us have done an EKO on our own before.

Meredith: Cristina has. Burke taught her.

Cristina: I’m not involved.

Izzie: What if this was Burke? What if you were me?

Cristina: This is bad. This is bad and serious and against a lot of rules. It’s is not fun for me. I don’t wanna play.

Izzie: What if you were me?

Cristina: Well I wouldn’t have fallen in love with a patient.

Izzie: You fell in love with an attending. Well so did Mere, what’s the point?

Meredith: The point is we can’t help who we fall in love with.

George (scoffs): Yeah.

(Meredith flinches)

Izzie: Yeah.

– Derek and Dr. Webber confirm that the bullet is lodged. Burke’s condition worsens for a second. His lung collapsed, but he’s okay now.

– Alex informs Meredith that Erica is not going to wait. Meredith tells Alex to stall Erica as much as he can. Do it for Izzie. He makes no promises.

– Camille talks to her friends about having sex. Addison looks on. Camille says that she has been sick for awhile now. And it appears that the cancer is back.

– Addison comes to talk to Adele.

Adele: I was just tryin’ to remember the night that I lost my virginity and I can’t. I remember who I was with and I remember that I was 18. I can’t remember any of the details.

Addison: I can remember all of the details. Kinda wish I couldn’t.

Adele: That bad?

Addison: No. Just not good. Good came later. And then really good came.

– Addison tells Adele that the cancer is back.

– Izzie and Cristina continue to tend to Denny.

Izzie: I’m sorry. I know that you worried about Burke.

Cristina: Whatever, it’s fine.

Izzie: Cristina can’t you just try to understand? I love him.

Cristina: You don’t even know him.

Izzie: I do know him.

Cristina: No. You never even seen him outside the four walls of this hospital. You don’t know him.

Izzie: I know him. And maybe I haven’t lived with him or work with him like you do with Burke. But I do know him. And there’s…there’s possibility here. And giving the choice of running or staying…

Cristina: You should run. A sane person, a person who values her career and everything she worked for, a person who values her own heart, for God’s sake, that person would run.

Denny: The sane person would marry me.

Izzie: What? What did you say? What did he say?…(Goes to commercial)…He said marry me? He said marry me, right?

George: He did.

Izzie: Denny, wake up. Denny.

– Denny flatlines again and the gang attempt to save him.

– Alex tells Erica what happened to Burke.

Erica Hahn: Is Dr. Burke alive?

Alex: Yes.

Erica Hahn: Shame. He probably would have made a good donor.

– Erica is going in to get the heart. Alex says she has to wait for the test results. But she makes the cut anyways.

– Camille’s whole school comes to the hospital. The kids want to have the prom here, since Camille is missing it. Dr. Webber sends them away, though. Her friends know that Camille is dying.

– Burke tries to move his hand, but it’s numb. Derek is there with him.

Derek: You know the drill. We wait a few days. Maybe the aneurysm won’t grow.

Burke: Yeah if–if it stays this size it’s too much damage.

Derek: We’ll just go in there and we’ll fix it. Relieve the compression on the nerves.

Burke: Yeah. But the operation could cause damage to the nerves.

Derek: Yes.

Burke: And I could lose function of the entire arm.

Derek: Yes.

Burke: You can do this? Are you good enough to do this?

Derek: I think so.

Burke: But you’re not sure?

Derek: Not sure.

Burke: So, what do I do?

Derek: It’s not like you to ask those kind of questions.

Burke: It’s not like you’re not gonna have the answers.

– Adele confronts Webber on what he did.

Adele: How dare you send those kids away.

Richard: Adele. Please, you’re emotional right now.

Adele: I just told my sister that her baby’s cancer is back. You damn right I’m emotional. If you don’t wanna bend your precious rules for Camille, fine. Don’t do it for her, do it for me. Do it for your wife who never asks you anything about your long hours. Who looks the other way when you have an affair with another woman. (Richard looks shocked…) Who sobered you up when that woman left you. Who stayed with you when everyone…everyone said that I would be better off alone. I’m not asking you. I’m telling you. You’re gonna make this up to Camille. You’re gonna prioritize the needs of your family above the needs of your other patients. Or you’re gonna find a new place to sleep.

– Derek goes to find some place to hide. Addison wants to talk him, but he says not now. Derek finds that Webber is trying to hide as well. Derek doesn’t know what he should do about Burke. Webber tells Derek about his niece and his affair with Meredith’s mom. His wife knew the entire time, but still stayed with him. Derek says he respects Burke. Burke could lose his hand. Webber tells Derek to do the right thing.

– Bailey comes to check on Burke.

Bailey: Anything I can get for you Dr. Burke?

Burke: No, I’m fine.

Bailey: There, there must be something.

Burke: It would be nice to have some ice chips. And, uh, a touch of morphine if I’m allowed. And, uh, (pause…) Cristina.

Bailey: Coming right up. (She starts to walk out of the room…) Where is Cristina? Where are, where are all the little suck ups?

Burke: Excuse me?

Bailey: My interns. My ass-kissing, surgery-hungry, competitive suck-ups. Where are they? Why aren’t they here fetching you ice chips and morphine? Why aren’t they here sucking up? You know something.

Burke: I’m a patient.

Bailey: Preston Xavier Burke, what have you done with my suck-ups?!

– It’s a crazy mess with Denny and the others. They look for some kind of medicine to stop Denny’s heart for a few seconds. They inject it. Denny thinks he is going to die. But he doesn’t. And here is Bailey.

(Catching all of them in Denny’s room…)

Bailey: You fools better have a good explanation for this.

(Goes to commercial…)

Bailey: Step away from the patient. (They all step away but Izzie…) Step away from the patient!

Izzie: I can’t. I’m pumping his heart.

Bailey: Olivia, take over for Dr. Stevens. Izzie, you’re done here. I need you to leave the room.

Olivia: Izzie…

Izzie: No, do not touch me!

Bailey: Olivia, stay with Dr. Stevens. Help her if she’ll let you. You three, outside, now! (They leave and Bailey starts whispering and yelling at them…) Where was rational thought? Where was cognitive thinking? We’re supposed to do no harm. The morals, the ethical, where was sanity when you three decided to help that girl?

Meredith: We…

Bailey: No, no, no. No speaking. Nobody speaks. I do not want to have to testify against you in a court of law. She cut his LVAD wire. (George groans…) I said no speaking!

George: I didn’t say any…

Bailey: Then no moving. Cristina, Burke is asking for you. Go! (Cristina leaves…) I assume you ran labs? I’m asking a question. (They don’t say anything…) Answer me!

Meredith (Quietly): You said no speaking.

Bailey: I know what I said!

Meredith (Quietly): Yes.

Bailey (Her voice starts cracking): O’Malley get me the lab results. Do not pass go, do not talk to another living soul. Get labs and get back here. Grey…come with me.

– Cristina checks on Burke. Burke wants to know what he should do. Should he let Derek operate on him and risk losing feeling in his hand or not? Cristina doesn’t know what he should do, though. She has to think about it. She goes to do just that.

– Back to Denny and Bailey seems to have everything under control now.

Bailey: How you feeling Denny?

Denny: Really really good. Like an athlete or a superhero or some other really really healthy person.

Izzie: You’re funny. You’re a funny guy.

Meredith: Izzie, no speaking.

Denny: I cut my own LVAD wires you know, all by myself.

Bailey: Shh. You’re weak enough as it is please don’t waste energy on lying.

(Cristina comes in…)

Izzie: Dr. Bailey.

Bailey: I did indeed say no speaking.

Izzie: I don’t care! He’s gonna get the heart, right? You’re gonna sign the charts and talk to the transplant coordinator?

George (Walking in): Here are the labs.

Izzie: See? His BUN and Keratin are increasing. He clearly has pulmonary adima and he deserves to move up to 1A on the transplant list. UNOS will give him the heart you just need to call.

Bailey: Izzie Stevens I take my medical advice from doctors, you are a visitor. As of now you are a visitor in this hospital. You will not be a doctor again in the hospital until I decide that you are. Olivia, take over the heart pump.

Izzie: He gets the heart though, right?

– Bailey goes to ask Dr. Webber his opinion on something.

Bailey: Sir, I need to ask you a hypothetical question.

Richard: Can you do this another time?

Bailey: If someone on the staff deliberately unhooked a transplant candidate from his LVAD in an attempt to worsen his condition and get him moved up the donor list…(She sounds scared)…hypothetically, sir.

Richard: I think you need to tell me exactly what’s going on here, Doctor.

Bailey: Believe me sir you want this to stay a hypothetical ’cause I’m thinking if something like that did happen you’d be duty bound to report it and this hospital would be in danger of losing it’s credition as a transplant site.

Richard: So, hypothetically…

Bailey: So, hypothetically if the patient got worse would it be unethical for him to receive the heart even though now medically his condition puts him atop the donor list. Hypothetically.

Richard: How bad is he?

Bailey: In the few hours it would take for a new LVAD to be delivered he’d be dead.

Richard: Our responsibility is to the patient then if medically he is at the top of the list then he should get the heart hypothetically.

Bailey (Starts to walk away): Thank you, sir.

Richard: But practically who ever removed the patient from the LVAD I expect to be given names and there will be severe, severe consequences.

Bailey: Yes, sir.

– Alex tells Erica that the heart belongs to them now. It belongs to Denny. He takes the heart away from Erica, but Alex needs Erica to come with him. They head back to the hospital.

– Burke has 80% hand function. Derek says it’s not enough. He will have to think of something else to do.

– The heart is here with Alex and Erica. Denny gets rushed into surgery. Izzie is by his side for a few seconds. Bailey glares at Izzie.

– Derek is going to operate on Burke. Webber is there as well. Derek may have damaged some nerves in Burke’s arm. But the only way to find out is to wake up Burke. It will be more trauma for him, but not as much if his arm is paralyzed.

– George, Cristina, Meredith, and Izzie all sit in the floor now.

George: Bailey’s treating us like children, we’re not children! We shouldn’t have to sit out here like we’re in time-out or something.

Meredith: It is a time-out. What we did is way in need of a time-out.

Cristina: You realize we could get kicked out of the program for this?

Izzie: Not we, I did this. I did this. You’re probably right, maybe I should run. But I’d rather be running towards someone than running away.

Dr. Webber (walking up to the group): Yang, Shep’s asking for you.

Cristina: Uh, for Burke’s surgery?

Dr. Webber: Yes, hurry up.

Cristina: Uh, I can’t, I’m in a time-out.

Dr. Webber: Time-out’s over, Yang we need you. (They walk off…)

Izzie: He said marry me right? He did? That really happened?

George: Really happened.

Meredith: It really did.

Izzie (Gets a look on her face): Screw this, I’m checking on Denny. (gets up and leaves..)

– Cristina has to keep Burke focused when Derek wakes him up.

– George and Meredith are left alone and you know that is trouble.

Meredith: Thank you, for calling me about Izzie.

George: I didn’t do you any favors.

Meredith: But it meant something, that you called. It meant something to me.

George: It didn’t mean anything.

Meredith: Right, okay, sorry.

George: Stop saying that you’re sorry!…You wanna know something? I knew. I knew you didn’t feel that way about me, even during, when we were in bed I knew. I knew and I still let it happen, because, um, well, I figured that one night with you was better than never. So, will you just stop saying that you’re sorry? Cause you didn’t know any better, but I did. And… I’m sorry. (Turns to look at her…) I’m sorry Meredith!

– They try to wake up Burke. He does, but goes into a violent seizure. Webber and Derek yell at Cristina to calm Derek down, but she turns away.

– Erica is putting in Denny’s new heart.

– More trouble with Burke. Derek is the one that has to make Burke focus. It’s just him and Burke. He tells him to move his fingers and we wait.

– Back to Denny and the heart is not working yet. Izzie watches from above.

– Now we get shots from both surgeries as we wait for the results. Will Burke move his fingers? Will Denny’s heart work? We will find out….NOW..in a second!!

Grey’s Anatomy – Season Two (Episode 27 {Hour 2 of Season Finale}) – “Losing My Religion”

– Burke moves his fingers and is doing good. Cristina can’t watch, though. She walks out of the room.

– Bailey thinks the heart won’t work. Erica tells her to wait for it to beat. After a few seconds, it does beat. It works.

– Dr. Webber brings George, Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, and Alex all in to interrogate them about Denny.

Izzie: I cut the LVAD wire.

Meredith: Actually, I cut the LVAD wire.

George: No, I did it. I’m the one who cut the wire. (Pause..then he elbows Cristina…)

Cristina: Fine, I cut the LVAD wire.

Alex: I didn’t do anything, I’m totally innocent.

(Cristina, George, Izzie and Meredith all start yelling at him)

Chief: People. I know who did this, so you might as well come clean. I know!

George: With all due respect sir, if you knew you wouldn’t be asking us.

Izzie: I did it…

Meredith (Cutting Izzie off): You have your suspicions, but you don’t actually know.

Cristina: Not for sure.

George: And you can’t do anything to any of us without proof sir.

Chief: Well one of you compromised a patient’s life. One of you stole an organ. One of you jeopardized the integrity of this hospital and of UNOS. Now you tell me and you tell me right now. (Silence…) Alright, fine. (They start to leave…) No surgeries.

Cristina: Sir?

Chief: No one scrubs in, no one watches from the galleries, no one so much as goes near the OR floor. Until someone confesses, you will share a single patient: Camille Travis. Whatever she wants, the five of you will provide it. Get the hell out of my sight.

– Izzie says she will go back and tell the truth. Meredith tells them all to keep their mouths shut. They all fight until Bailey comes in to tell them their job now. The best friends of Camille want to throw a prom in the hospital for Camille. So the interns have to help them do it.

– Izzie comes to check on Denny. Denny remembered that he asked Izzie to marry him. Izzie doesn’t know about that. It’s a big step. She keeps talking and talking until Denny decides to stop her from talking.

Denny: No no no, we’re taking turns. I’ve decided. It’s polite and it keeps me from yelling. When it’s your turn again, you can talk. For 5 years, I’ve had to live by the choices of my doctors. The guys that cut me open decided my life; there wasn’t one choice that was mine. And now, I have this heart that beats and works. I get to be like everybody else. I get to make my own decisions, have my own life, do whatever the damn hell I choose. Now here’s the good part, so you listen close. What I choose, is you. You’re who I wanna wake up with, and go to bed with, and do everything in between with. I get a choice now. I get to choose. I choose you..Izzie Stevens. Ok, it’s your turn again.

– Izzie just looks at him and then leaves the room.

– Dr. Webber wants to know from Bailey who cut the LVAD wire. She doesn’t know for sure. Webber is going to talk to each one of them and find out the truth. And Webber informs everyone that they are all going to the prom since he has to go!

– George and Alex continue to help Camille’s friends with the prom preparations. Alex is in hell. George and Alex start to argue. Bailey comes in to see what the problem is.

Alex: The problem is the colors and-and the balloons and the under the sea. No, it’s Titanic. Hey, let’s go with Tears In Heaven. No, that’s too morbid. It should be pink, it should be red, it should be a freakin’ rainbow.

– George says they don’t understand teenage girls, so Bailey takes over and takes charge of the prom. She runs down everything they should do and do it now!

– George and Callie talk. George can’t tell Callie what happened in the room last night and that was the reason why he didn’t call her last night. Callie is upset. George wants to know if Callie wants to go to the prom with him. Callie says NO! Izzie asks what that was about and George tells her about the “I love you.”

– Meredith bumps into Finn at the hospital. She asks him to the prom. Finn is here to tell Meredith that Doc’s cancer has spread to his brain. Not looking good for the dog.

– Derek and Addison talk now. They say they are trying to work things out. Derek asks Addison to the prom.

– Cristina watches as Burke tries to regain full movement in his hand. Burke stares back. Cristina walks away again.

– Dr. Webber starts his one-on-one conversations with Alex.

Alex: I went to college on a wrestling scholarship. I played baseball, some basketball. But we’ll go with football.

Chief: What the hell does football have to do with who cut the LVAD wires?

Alex: Let’s say you were drafted to a team that wasn’t your first pick. You know, you don’t like the players. You hate the way they play the game. You even think the quarterback is full of crap. The quarterback’s a pain in the ass you don’t owe a damned thing to. But, it’s your team. You don’t quit. You don’t talk to the press. You don’t bitch to the coach. You just, you just go out there every Sunday and you make the blocks and you take the hits and you, you play to win. You show up and you suit up and you play, because it’s your freaking team.

– Next on the list is Cristina.

Chief: I know your type. You’re a surgical junkie.

Cristina: Yes, sir.

Chief: I’m just saying, its not going to be easy for you to be away from the OR that long.

Cristina: No, sir.

Chief: And if you want to get back to the OR, you’re gonna tell me what I need to know aren’t you.

Cristina: You’re right, its not easy for me to be away from the OR. And its not easy for me to sit in front of you, or any other authority figure for that matter, and not be able to give you the exact answer that you want to hear. I’m the one with the answers. I’ve always been the one with the answers. But right now sir, I don’t have any.

Chief: Dr. Yang.

Cristina: How do you keep your edge sir? Because I’ve watched you and you’ve been doing this a long time and you’re clean, you’re focused, you are the job, nothing gets to you. And the thing is sir, I was like that, until I got here. Until I actually started doing this job and now everything is..is fuzzy and…

Chief: That’s beside the point.

Cristina: No see sir, this is the point. Because I can’t tell you, I can’t tell you what happened in that room. And before I could have, no guilt, no loyalties, no problem. Before, before I wouldn’t have even been in that room. I wouldn’t have gotten involved. I would have never frozen in surgery. And I would have told him what I thought he should do. I had an edge, sir. I had an edge and I’ve lost it, and I need it. I need it back. So, if you could just tell me, how you keep yours and how not to be affected, I know I could be a great surgeon. So if you could just give me the answers, I would really appreciate it.

Chief: You’re excused Dr. Yang.

Cristina: But…

Chief: You’re excused.

Cristina: I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you who cut the LVAD wires if you’ll please…

Chief: No you won’t, I don’t wanna know. Not from you. Yeah, I have the answers, but I can’t tell them to you. I’m not going to be responsible for you becoming less human.

– Izzie’s turn now.

Izzie: I’m a pretty girl.

Chief: What?

Izzie: I’m not being arrogant, its just, its just kind of a fact. For a long time I made a career from my looks, so I get it, I’m a pretty girl. And not in a “from a certain angle” way, in an obvious way. It’s the blonde thing and the big boobs thing, big boobs are a key to obvious pretty if you know what I’m saying.

Chief: Dr. Stevens.

Izzie: Its how men see me. I’m not a smart girl or an interesting girl, I’m a pretty girl. The blonde and the boobs it confuses guys into thinking that I’m someone else. And I’m used to it. And I’m used to them walking away when they realize…but then Denny goes and asks me to marry him.

Chief: Is that why you cut the wires?

Izzie: He doesn’t make me feel like I’m a pretty girl. He makes me feel like…like me. I think he might know me. And so, if I did cut the LVAD wire, and I’m not saying that I did, but if I did, then no, I don’t feel guilty. And I know that I should. And I would if it were anybody else’s. But I can’t feel anything but happy. (Smiles…)

– George is on deck.

George: (Webber just stares at him…) Aren’t you gonna say anything or….I’m not gonna break….I’m starting to get a little freaked out, but I’m not gonna break. Its not because I don’t care, because I do care what you think about me, I do. (Sighs…) Care. I just can’t tell you want you wanna hear. (Looks down for a second…) Which seems to be a theme in my life right now. Just because you can’t say something doesn’t mean you don’t want to, you can want to very much. You can be with a person and be happy with them and not love them. And you can love somebody and not want to be with them. You don’t need to love someone to want them. Now that’s frustrating, when what your brain tells you you want and what you actually want don’t match up. Its exhausting. And, well, its complicated. But that’s life. And life…sucks.

– Meredith is last for Webber.

Chief: (As Meredith is staring off…) I’ve known you for a long time. And I know your mother and father. And I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you did not cut those LVAD wires. Meredith, I need you to tell me who did it.

Meredith: I’ve been going over this and over this in my mind trying to piece this together. It was you, you’re the reason my parents broke up. And it wasn’t just an affair, she really loved you. It wasn’t just this cheap thing where she didn’t tell you she was married. It wasn’t all a lie. She left her husband for you. But you stayed with your wife, because it was the right thing to do. Maybe safe, but she was the right person for you to be with. Lets face it, my mother, nothing wrong with being safe, being with the good guy because he’s good and we are talking about forever here. You’ve never regretted your decision. You’ve never looked back… Right?

– Webber says nothing to Meredith.

– Meredith finds Derek and tells him about Doc. Meredith thinks they should put him to sleep. Derek says whatever she thinks. Doc is not getting better, though.

– Izzie comes back to tell Denny that her answer is yes. Bailey pushes away Izzie, though, since it’s not visitor hours. She will be back in her dress for prom.

– Cristina comes to see Burke. She finds out that George already came to see him. She tells him about the prom. Burke tells Cristina that he has to take care of himself. She doesn’t have to take care of him, if she can’t be here for this. Cristina asks if Burke told Derek about his shaky hands yet. Not yet says Burke.

– Meredith, Derek, and Addison are all there with Doc. They get ready to put him to sleep. They are going to bury him next to the water. Addison gets a page and she has to go back to the hospital. They say their goodbyes and Doc is gone. Derek watches as Meredith cries. Finn says that he is sorry for the loss of Doc. She says it was more Derek’s dog than hers. Derek tells Meredith that Doc was a good dog.

– It’s time for the prom now. All the kids are there. Bailey is there along with Cristina. Bailey thought that Webber might have let Cristina out of the prom with Burke being upstairs. She decided to come, though. Derek and Finn are here. Meredith arrives and both of them look at her. Finn goes to greet her. Addison comes to talk to Derek, but Derek looks at Finn and Meredith as they embrace. Derek and Addison go to dance.

– Dr. Webber dances with his niece, Camille. She says that her boyfriend loves her, so he better be nice to him. She thanks Richard for the prom.

– George and Callie fight now. She is going to the prom without George. Callie tells George that she has never told a guy that she loved them. Now she is the person that says it and the guy avoids her now. George says he is not avoiding her. But he won’t say it back to her right now. Callie wants to leave, but George makes her listen to him.

George (to Callie): If I say it back right now, you know I’m just saying it because you said it to me. When I say I love you, I want to mean it, because…you just have to give me some time to mean it.

– They kiss and makeout now.

– Derek still watches Meredith as she dances with Finn. Meredith tells Finn that he might get “lucky” tonight after prom. Finn tells Meredith about his wife dying some more. He stops making plans now. He just lives one day at a time. But when he looks at Meredith..he has all kinds of plans. Meredith doesn’t freak out about that. However, as she dances with Finn she looks back at Derek, who is giving her a look. Meredith has to go away now. Away from Derek. She makes up an excuse to leave Finn. Derek does the same.

– Meredith runs away as Derek chases her. Derek wants to know if she is alright. Meredith says she is not alright. Derek has a wife, their dog died, and now Derek is looking at Meredith. She wants him to stop looking at her. Derek says he is not looking at her. But Meredith says that he watches her and looks at her. Finn has plans and Meredith likes Finn. He’s perfect for her. She is trying to be happy, but she can’t breathe with Derek looking at her like that. Derek says he doesn’t want to look at her. He would rather look at his wife. But she doesn’t make him crazy or jealous. He doesn’t want to look at Meredith, but he can’t stop looking at her. They kiss now.

– Izzie arrives at the prom. She has to stop to see Denny first, though. Alex greets her for a second.

– Now we get a music montage with different images. My favorite part of the show. Meredith and Derek have sex in one image. Denny is in his room and his heart stops. He flatlines. No one is around to save him. Now we see Izzie come up the elevator to see him.

– After Meredith and Derek have sex, Derek wants to know what this means for them. Meredith is more concerned about finding her panties and getting dressed. Callie walks in on them and tells Meredith that she has to go find Izzie.

– Bailey informs Webber that Denny died.

– George, Cristina, Callie, and Meredith all run to find Izzie. Olivia says that Izzie is in the room with Denny. Izzie says that he could have been a stroke. He has blood clots and it could have went to his brain. It wasn’t the heart. It was the blood clots. Izzie lays her head on his shoulder. She changed her dress three times and should have been her sooner. George says there is nothing she could have done. They all want her to leave. She can’t stay here, though. Alex walks in and says that is not Denny. When his heart stopped beating, he stopped being Denny. Alex says that Denny wouldn’t want Izzie to go through this. Izzie breaks down. Alex grabs Izzie and picks up off of Denny. Alex holds her and tries to comfort her.

– Burke tries to make his hands work again like they should. Cristina watches for a second and then comes in to grab his hand. She will be there for him.

– Derek is back at the prom and Addison wondered where he was at. Webber and Bailey come looking for the interns. Here they come and none of them look too happy. Izzie turns to Webber and says that it was her. She cut his wire. But now she can’t do anything. She quits. She is done with the hospital.

– Everyone walks away except for Meredith, Finn, and Derek. Our final image is Meredith looking at Finn and Derek. They both call her name out and want her to come with. Meredith just stares back at both of them and we are out!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
