Caliban – The Undying Darkness Review

Caliban Official Website

The Inside Pulse:
Gaining a huge following in Europe, Germany’s Caliban release their sixth album through LifeForce Records. Fans of metal have been singing the praises of this band since their last album Opposite From Within and now they look to open the floodgates into North America.

Positives:
A fantastically put together album from start to finish, this album doesn’t really drag in any places that makes you want to skip ahead. The album starts off with a beautiful piano solo followed by the hard hitting “I Rape Myself”. That’s just a small example of the great flow of this album.

The production on this album is very crisp as well, as they were able to have Anders Friden of In Flames produce the record. The drums pound out nicely, the guitars seems to balance perfectly, and the vocals are very sharp.

Behind the screaming, vocalist Andy Dorner also possesses a very talented singing voice and it shines through on such tracks as “I Rape Myself”, “It’s Our Burden To Bleed”, and “Nothing Is Forever”.

Negatives:
To be honest, it’s very hard to find any flaws with this record. Metal fans should eat this album up with a spoon.

Cross-breed:
Any sort of European metal, ala In Flames, Shadows Fall, etc. This album has a touch more death metal in it than those aforementioned bands, but it will not detract from the enjoyment of this record.

Reason to buy:
If you’re starting to get sick of the Godsmacks and the Korns of this world, Caliban will be your new favourite band. Very high recommendation if you’re a metal fan in any way.
