The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

You have two choices for watching TV this summer. Well..more than two choices, but you have two basic routes you can go for entertainment on TV this summer. Most of your favorite shows are gone until Fall. So you can either watch reruns of those shows or you could try out and watch a few new shows that the networks are throwing out this summer. I think I’m going to play the timeslot matchups. Get the trusty TiVo out and compare what is on the networks at specific times of night. You will get either a new show to take a chance on or you will get reruns of your favorite shows that air at its usual time. I’m not a big fan of reruns, but if it’s a show that I couldn’t watch..due to timeslot matchups and conflicts this past year..then it’s new to me!

Reruns I will watch this summer will be of ‘Lost’, ‘My Name is Earl’, ‘The Office’, a little ’24’, and maybe some ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, because it’s so good! New shows I will try out..well that will be ‘Last Comic Standing’, ‘Treasure Hunters’, ‘Windfall’, ‘Tuesday Night Book Club’, and ‘Gameshow Marathon’. But basically I will be treading water and hanging tight until ‘Big Brother’ starts up on July 6. That will trump all other shows and my TV watching schedule will revolve around that show.

I have seen two “new”..or at least new to me..shows as of this week. Those would be ‘Last Comic Standing’ and ‘Gameshow Marathon’. I love comedy, so ‘Last Comic Standing’ is a keeper. But I actually thought some of these people were comedians already. I have seen them on TV already. Oh well..still funny. And ‘Gameshow Marathon’..well you can’t go wrong with gameshows and taking all the classic gameshows and throwing them into one show..genius! I don’t know about having “celebrities” being the contestants on the show, though. But I guess it works. However, Ricki Lake? I could go without seeing her on my TV screen again! I will update you on any new shows I watch this summer and what I think of them when I watch them. Sound good? Okay..then.

I have come to the conclusion that I watch the “Food Network” way too much! This week is especially true as you will notice that I watched it over half of the time. Why? Well..it’s “Grillin’ and Chillin’ Week”! The grilling season has officially begun with this past Memorial Day weekend. And it’s all about the BBQ this summer! Yes..I have a problem, but nothing better than warm weather and food. Okay..hot babes in the warm weather..that would be nice too!

Now we have some business to take care of. We need to take a look back at the week that was here at IPTV. And don’t forget to keep voting in the “Best ‘Big Brother’ Houseguest EVER!” tournament! We finish off the first round this week with Group #3! Keep reading to find out how you can vote!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“And I’ll tell you something else, I’m not even going to ask you. I want to know. But I’m not going to ask. You’ll tell me when you feel comfortable.. So what was it? Four hundred? Five hundred? Did you pay five hundred for this? (Jerry’s acting coy throughout the whole thing) Over six? Can’t be seven. Don’t tell my you paid seven hundred dollars for this jacket! Did you pay seven hundred dollars for this jacket? Is that what you’re saying to me?! You are sick! Is that what you paid for this jacket?! Over seven hundred? What did you pay for this jacket? I won’t say anything. I wanna know what you paid for this jacket! Oh my God! A thousand dollars?! You paid a thousand dollars for this jacket?! Alright, fine. I’m walking out of here right now thinking you paid a thousand dollars for this jacket, unless you tell me different. (Jerry still coy, stays silent) Oh, ho! Alright! I’ll tell you what, if you don’t say anything in the next five seconds, I’ll know it was over a thousand…”George to Jerry about the new suede jacket Jerry bought

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Tying Up Some Loose Ends!!

Mathan Erhardt talks about the finales of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘Prison Break’, ‘Smallville’, and ‘Scrubs’! Besides that, he didn’t watch anything last week since he was on vacation! Wimp! He will have part two of his finale talk next week..if he gets caught up! Oh..and I will go with the “Sweathogs” on ‘Welcome Back Kotter’!

DeeDee finishes her thoughts on ‘American Idol’ this year with a look back at the finale. Hmm..do you think we will hear that word a lot this week? What will DeeDee do now since that show is over? Good question..go straight to the source to find out!

Craig Russell is not done with his thoughts on the new schedules for the major networks this Fall. NBC decided it had to revise it’s schedule after seeing what the other networks did. Basically, ABC moving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to Thursdays put the fear in NBC and that switched up a lot of nights and programs! See the changes and Craig’s thoughts on it!

Sarah Quigley is still not done talking about ‘The Apprentice’. It still has one more week left! Or did have one more week. Go read her thoughts on the show and last week’s episode!

Matt Basilo got burnt this past weekend and his best friend is now Mr. Aloe! Been there buddy. He talks about the finales of ‘Lost’ and ’24’! That’s about all. Oh..he would rather hang with Clark Kent than Jack Bauer..imagine that!

Farah Syed suggests something for you to do this summer without your favorite TV shows. How about checking out some fan-fiction of your favorite TV shows? That is fans writing about TV shows. Maybe telling you what they think should happen next on the show and detailing every detail. Or maybe rewriting what SHOULD have happened in the past. Don’t laugh..Farah thought it was funny too. That was until she saw some fan-fiction about ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. Now she’s a believer! Read on to find out why!

Dora Malone finishes her talk of ‘Survivor’ this season by talking about how Mother’s Day affected the outcome. Say what? Go see for yourself and if it makes any sense to you?!

Kevin Wong has more finale talk for the rest of his favorite shows. Those include ‘Numb3rs’, ‘Prison Break’, ‘Survivor’, ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, and ‘The Unit’! He also watched some of the same shows that I did this week!

Recaps a.k.a. Just a Little Bit!!

Steve Murray continues his recap of ‘The Sopranos’. They have one more episode left this season! So get it, while it’s hot!

I am back on the job. No rest for me. Everyone else has a break, but I have a new ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge’ to recap! This one is called “Fresh Meat” and you can get all the dirty details of the first episode here!

This week we had 3 TV on DVD reviews! Two by me!

I hang with the Taylors as I review Home Improvement – The Complete Fourth Season! I also decided to stop being lazy and finish off all the seasons of ‘Seinfeld’ that I have in my possession. I dug up the lost DVD review of Seinfeld – Season Six! Enjoy!

Travis Leamons loves lawyers! He has Boston Legal: Season One!

Celebrities a.k.a. Eliza and Murtz..One Last Time!!!

Former ‘Survivor’, Eliza, and Murtz finally get around to talking about the finale of ‘Survivor: Exile Island’! They have thoughts on the season as a whole as well!

Justin Giovinci (BB4) – 26

It is interesting to see that Will Kirby and Howie Gordon got the most votes this week. Interesting, because they have to face each other in the next round. Only one of them (if one of them beats Jamie as well) can advance to the “Final 12”. It should be a great battle! And the trend did not continue this week. There were people from the earlier seasons of ‘Big Brother’ that defeated people from later seasons this time around. Maybe it’s just the people involved in the matchups. That would make sense..wouldn’t it?

We start the voting for Group #3 this week! Remember..to help with your voting, you may need a reminder of who these people were. So I suggest you go to these websites to refresh your memory on Seasons #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6!

Remember..“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you when I see you!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
