[ECW] A Ton of News Out of Tuesday’s Show

Archive

– After ECW on Sci Fi went off the air, Big Show and Batista, standing on opposite sides of the ring on the floor pointed at each other and teased getting in the ring, as the fans booed them. They entered the ring, went face to face, and then smiled at each other. They shook hands and hugged while fans threw garbage at them. Show and Batista then walked around ringside, giving high fives to some fans, while others threw garbage and cursed them out. There definitely was a split reaction to them from the crowd. Before finally exiting, Big Show picked up the microphone and said “Seriously guys, from the bottom of my heart … you can all kiss my ass”. Video is below, with the latter video showing a near riot as Big Show leaves.

– Diva Search contestant Rebecca (who was eliminated Monday) was sitting in one of the balconies.

– The crowd was a mix of old-school ECW fans who weren’t going to give any “WWE guys” a chance, and WWE fans who reacted positively to the Smackdown stars on the show.

– ECW in Canada will not be midnight on Friday Nights (Saturday Mornings) but rather a 12:06am start time. From midnight until GlobalTV goes off air, they run on the :06 and :36,

– Vince and Shane McMahon were backstage at last night’s ECW taping and by all accounts, were very happy with how the taping went. If you watch the backstage vignette where Paul Heyman is shunned by his ECW performers, you can see Vince watching on a monitor in the background.

– Fit Finlay and Dean Malenko worked as agents for the Hammerstein taping.

– WWE claimed that the Hammerstein Ballroom was sold out last night, but it certainly seemed that there were a lot less fans there compared to the two One Night Stand PPVs. Tickets were available at the box office all the way up to show time. There were also a lot of fans outside trying to unload extra tickets for well below face value.

– ECW Vixen Trinity, still recovering from knee surgery, was backstage at Tuesday night’s taping sporting a knee brace.

– Tony Devito, Simon Dean, and Jazz were also backstage.

– Brian Kendrick suffered a bloody nose during his tag match with Paul London against the Full Blooded Italians.

– The new referees working for ECW Tuesday night were Scott Armstrong and James Beard. Armstrong is a former WCW worker and obviously, the son of Bullet Bob Armstrong and brother of Road Dogg Jesse James / BG James. Beard worked for a long time with the Von Erichs’ World Class Championship Wrestling.

– Although there weren’t any loud chants, there were a ton of fans catcalling ring announcer Justin Roberts all night over his replacing Stephen DeAngelis. WWE had Roberts enter the ring while the lights in the venue were off during a video feature on ECW One Night Stand 2005.

– There is talk of putting Rene Dupree, who worked a dark match last night against Balls Mahoney, in the ECW brand full time. Dupree looks facially like Erik Watts now that he’s grown his brown hair out and apparently did a good job on the mic before his match with Mahoney.

– There have also been discussions of putting Boogeyman in the brand when he returns from injury since his character is tailor-made for the Sci-Fi Network.

– CW Anderson’s new official ring name is Christopher W. Anderson. The name change was a decision made by WWE officials to keep CW from having the same name as Smackdown’s new network (CW Network) and also to differentiate him from CM Punk.

– WWE did a photo shoot with Shannon Moore on the Spring Street station of the A/C/E line of the New York City subway system Monday afternoon.

– WWE debuted an ECW roster T-shirt last night that featured Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Kelly Kelly, Kevin Thorne, and CM Punk, among others, so expect it to pop up on the WWE Shopzone website shortly.

– WWE has announced that Tommy Dreamer’s ECW.com column will return this Saturday.

– Announced for ECW’s 8/13 return to White Plains, New York at the Westchester County Center is Test vs. Tommy Dreamer, Sabu vs. Justin Credible in an ECW Rules match, and ECW World champion Big Show vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Kurt Angle. WWE had employees handing out postcards advertising the show as fans exited the Hammerstein. The cards were also pushing appearances by Kelly Kelly, Sandman, and “Westchester’s own” Paul Heyman.
