ON TIME

PLUS ONE DAY

THAT’S JUST HOW WE ROLL AROUND HERE

M A R V E L
N E W S &
V I E W S

So this past weekend I was at Otakon with my webcomic and we had a bang up time. Sold lots of merch, oogled twelve year olds in gothic lolita outfits, and got beaten on by my darling fiancee. You see we have what the world refers to as a ‘give and take’ relationship.

Anyway, I’m back with MORE Marvel News coming from the windy city of Chicago… let’s hit it, shall we? Let’s start with last week’s Joe Friday and work our way up.

BULLET POINTS OF JOE
Newsarama

Because Joe Friday’s are usually a lot of pomp with minute information, I’m going to do this in bullets, as I’ve come to start to love, and then discuss from there.

* RUMOR: Doc Strange will be appearing in one of the Avengers titles

Looks likely from the way that Joe Quesada responds, meaning he avoids answering at all costs. So I wouldn’t be surprised that after the Avengers get their second team, we’ll be seeing good ol Doc Strange appearing in a regular title again. He is one of the big megapowered folks out there so it’s not altogether unreasonable.

Along with an Illuminati book I’ll be getting too shortly, it seems that the Marvel U has finally found itself some semblence of order as to how things are going to go.

* FACT: Scarlet Witch will be returning New Avengers #26

Good. Took damn well long enough. Actually once again this just proves that Marvel is STARTING to get their heads together about having a united universe, while still holding onto the ideas of individual stories. I know lots of people slag on Marvel, but I also know lots of people slag because dammit they just love slagging and comics aren’t going to ever be as good as their vision.

SOOOOooo all that for…. Scarlet Witch coming back. Good times.

More bullet points with Joe coming later, but I’m trying to do all of this in the order they came in.

Now we’re at Chicago time!

WIZZY WORLD CHICAGO – BRUBAKER & FRACTION HAVE IRON FISTS
Newsarama

Now if you don’t know what’s going on with Iron Fist, you apparently don’t read Brubaker’s Daredevil. I could explain, but that would ruin it.

All of what is going on there is leading to Brubaker rejuvinating a character he loves in Iron Fist with Matt Fraction. So it seems Marvel really loves the Brubaker, giving him Daredevil, Uncanny, Cap’n, and now the Fist? We might be revering to him as BruBendis sometime in the near future. *Rimshot* Oh I’ll be here all week.

They aren’t going to angst him up, they are just goign to take what he was, a good guy, and work with it. Sounds good to me honestly.

WIZZY WORLD CHI-TOWN – WHAT IF HAPPENS
Newsarama

So we have some What If’s based on what’s going on in the Marvel U.. let’s look shall we?

WHAT IF NOBODY NOTICED DISASSEMBLED

I’m not sure precisely what’s going on with this one, but the exact solicit says something about if ‘the greatest threat went undetected’ – which I guess means that nobody caught on that Witch was the problem and she caused all this strife from within. Sounds intriguing enough I guess…

WHAT IF THE OTHER TOOK OVER PETER PARKER

So lots of people didn’t like The Other – I thought it was long winded, but a neat concept…. so what if the spider took over the man? Good enough for me, but wasn’t this done before – I”m sure I’ll get emails.

WHAT IF WOLVERINE WAS NEVER DEPROGRAMMED?

In a storyline that sadly didn’t span enough of the Marvel U, Wolverine became an ultimate killing machine for the Hand. What would happen if he never got caught? If you ever read Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe, I have a hope that this story would read like that.

AND MORE!

There’s also a Deadly Genesis one that I can only assume has to do with Xavier mindwiping his students, and an Age of Apocalypse story that confounds the hell out of me as tow hat they would be addressing. What If stories are always hit or miss with me, but these sound like they are going to be kind of interesting at least.

WIZZY WORLD WINDY CITY – MONDO MARVEL
Newsarama

MORE BULLET POINTS!

* FANTASTIC FOUR – THE END IN NOVEMBER

A story about them breaking up and then reuniting for one last adventure. Not a bad idea, and THE END stories have been really made for people who are dedicated to the characters… or for Chris Claremont to spout off at the mouth and confuse people. With Alan Davis at the helm, why the hell not, really?

* BLADE RETURNS

I’m not a Blade guy. My first exposure to him was the first movie, but I’ve since found him in Essential Werewolf By Night as well as a few other scattered appearances. He’s a vampire. Kids love vampires. With already discussions about him taking on a SHIELD HELLICARRIER full of vampires… come on – that’s neat and you know it.

* X-23 GETS ANOTHER LIMITED SERIES

Craig Kyle and Chris Yost are going to be hitting X-23 in a series, which is fine by me. For those who don’t recognize, I have a real belief that New X-Men/Academy X is probably one of the most real soap opera superhero books in existance right now. It’s well created and has an amazing handle on how teenagers work. Not to mention there are so many dumbass characters from the Morrison run, there are plenty that they can kill without it feeling like a burden.

So another story to explore the history of X-23, the character EVERYONE thought was going to become the albatross around the neck of Marvel… ya know, two Wolverine’s running around could be a problem and all. So as dutifully as X-23 has been ignored in Marvel and thrown to an under-read title like Academy, more stories about her doesn’t seem like a bad idea for me.. although I think it would be nice if they give some of the other characters a shot at the limelight too. Elixir is pretty cool, but I guarantee you have NO idea who that is.

* J SCOTT CAMPBELL IS WORKING ON A SPIDEY STORY

Expect it to start in 2007 and end in 2070.

* DAREDEVIL FATHER #6 COMING OUT IN OCTOBER

Yes, and the Kevin Smith Daredevil will be coming out along with the J Scott Campbell Spidey finisher…

WW:C – HAWKEYE?
Newsarama

Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch BOTH in New Avengers #26.

I am not one of the Hawkeye’s dead haters or supporters or any other sort of thing like that, so we’ll see. If it tells a good story, I really have no agenda about Hawkeye… just a very secret one about Elixir apprently.

W^2:C – ILLUMINATI ALUMNI ALIGNING AGAIN
Newsarama

Now people have discussed when Illuminati first appeared how they could have been around for all of these huge events. Kree Skrull war, Infinity Gauntlet, etc and we not know about it – especially if they were involved.

It’s going to be an interesting idea, but I think the haters are going to win on this one. There is just too much history to sit and peruse and too many factions to consider for all of this to work out perfectly. Bendis is good, but I don’t know if he’s THAT good, even with a second hand men Brian Reed and Jimmy Cheung behind him.

It’s going to be hard enough to capture these character’s mindsets of the day… but we’ll give it a shot and see how it rolls.

WWC – ULTIMATE WOLVERINE
Newsarama

If you want to read all the information about it – I’d say go read this interview. Personally speaking, I’m not a fan of giving Ulty Wolvie his own title. Now here’s where it gets interesting – it’s being done by Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner, which means not only is it going to be the Ultimate book that every fanboy and his mother asked for, it’s going to be done by two people that fanboys wet themselves over. It’s really a win win situation if you are a huge fan of big names on big names.

Me? I’ll give it a looksie since I’m such a huge fan of the Marvel Universe, but it’s going to take something VERY special for me to approve.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION ABOUT MARVEL @ WIZZY WORLD!
Newsarama!

Stan did it to promote Marvel

Gruenwald did it to fix errors

Brevoort is going to send you a scan of the envelope when he thinks you have shown meritorious service in the name of Marveldom – mnuch like Lee did back in the day.

What does that mean? Nobody knows yet, but how much fun is it going to be to learn?

So there we go kids – there is another Marvel News and Views, brought to you by War of the Worlds, which is what I watched while I wrote this. It got slagged on pretty hard, and it has it’s big flaws, but generally speaking for an action alien flick, it’s a nice spin on it where the characters can’t really be the heroes… just people trying to help a little bit.

Anyway – until next week – keep on truckin and Make Mine Miguel… err.. Marvel.
