Treasure Hunters – Recap – Episode 8

Archive

Previously on Treasure Hunters, the remaining five teams went back to France to find an artifact left by a secret society. Miss USA were unable to complete the final tasks, and were eliminated. This time, teams will hunt for the final artifact back in the U.S. The Hunt continues… now.

Opening Credits

New York City. The teams have returned, and are happy to be back on American soil. Charles thinks it’s kind of weird to be all hanging around together, and expects a bloodbath. They all get into a limo and toast each other.

Waldorf Astoria Hotel. It looks like the teams will be staying there. Francis considers this a once in a lifetime opportunity – unless the Geniuses win, in which case, he’ll buy the hotel. They’re told to relax and “feel at home”. Sure. They get appetizers and alcohol, and Mark of the ex-CIA is drinking a lot, and his teammates are worried about his being hungover.

9:00am. Laird calls and tells them that they’ll have to discover the code to the cryptex, and their first clue has to do with a Susan B. Anthony coin and the Great Americans Hall of Fame. Geniuses run out right away, while the Southie Boys hire a taxi to guide them there. Air Force follow the Geniuses, while ex-CIA follow the Southie Boys.

Bronx Community College. Southie Boys have arrived and find the bust of Susan B. Anthony. They look around, and find… nothing. The other teams have arrived, and noone can figure it out – until they look at her line of sight, and she’s looking right at a bust of Lafayette! They find a mailbox near Lafayette, and find some keys. It says Gould Library, and teams sprint over there.

Once inside, Laird calls them, and tells them that their next clue is hidden in one of the paintings in the Library, with the message “I can tell you today, art imitates life”. The Geniuses come across a painting called “Today” that points them towards a sculpture. That sculpture points them towards another painting called “Sailing to Philadelphia” which is the property of the Land Title Building in Philly, so that’s where they head out to.

The other teams have stumbled across the painting, and now wonder where the Geniuses are. They’re outside, running towards their truck, actually.

Back at the library, the other three teams see the picture, and head outside to confront the Geniuses. The Geniuses just go, and apparently this is Francis’ hometown, and the team thinks that they’ll have a leg up on the other teams. To the side, we see the Triple H and the sledgehammer of foreshadowing warming up.

The other teams are also heading to the building, so we’ll see just what kind of advantage the Geniuses truly have.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Geniuses are the first team to arrive at the Land Title Building, and get a message from Laird. They’re told that the information that they seek is in suite 2226, but only one team member can enter the building. Charles goes in.

Southie Boys are arguing directions. Ex-CIA arrive at the building. Meanwhile, Francis and Sam get a message that the information is on a plaque OUTSIDE the building, and while they can see the plaque from the ground, the information can only be read from the ledge. And if that person they sent up can’t do it, they have to come back down for a replacement. On the 22nd floor, Charles gets a message – “A bird of peace holds the code to this door. If your credit had wings, you’d find the answer for sure.” Charles figures out that the Treasure Hunters credit card is his code to enter. Good thing he was carrying it, eh?

Meanwhile, Todd is heading up to the 22nd floor. Francis calls Charles with the bad news about the ledge, and Charles is pumped. Todd doesn’t have his credit card, and is wondering what to do. Southie Boys and Air Force arrive, and the three trailing teams head in to the suite. Charles is on the ledge and turns the corner. He’s at the plaque, and it reads “Founder’s Hall, Girard”. Charles heads inside, and Francis figures that they’re heading to Girard Avenue.

Back up in the suite, Todd is afraid of heights, and ex-CIA have gone from second to last.

Geniuses take off, and Matt R. of the Air Force is out and creeping around the ledge. He makes it. John of the Southie Boys is next to go.

In their truck, Francis isn’t sure where to go. Hey, you’ve got a laptop and a search engine RIGHT THERE. Why not grab some directions from there? Oh, that’s right – it’s not GOOGLE or YAHOO.

John gets the clue. Todd is out and creeping around. Southie Boys hope that one team gets lost. Air Force gets the directions through their search engine, and the Geniuses are lost. Good work, Francis.

Todd makes it to the plaque, and heads down. Southie Boys have headed in the wrong direction. They ask a random guy, and he knows EXACTLY where it is.

Air Force have arrived at Founder’s Hall in first. Laird calls them and tells them that if not for Stephen Girard’s money, the Americans would’ve lost the War of 1812. They’re told that there are two dozen rooms in the building – some with secret entrances. But there is more than one room holding the key to the cryptex, and for one team, the hunt will end here.

Laird then tells us that they’re looking for a seven letter word that opens the cryptex. This is in a secret room, but there are other clues that will reveal the word to them. Brooke thinks that it might have something to do with the coin they got at the beginning of the leg. They head into the basement, and look through a stash of relics. They find a ship log, and that maybe the key is the name of the ship.

Southie Boys have arrived at the college. They’re pissed off at each other. And we see a digital blimp that says “Independence for the people”.

Matthew and Martin are still pissed off at each other. Geniuses and ex-CIA have arrived at the Hall.

Southie Boys put aside their differences and head in. Laird gives them the good/bad news.

Air Force are looking for seven letter words near ships. Southie Boys are running everywhere. Ex-CIA see a boat but don’t do anything. Geniuses see “Bolivar” and try it.

Air Force are at the top of the Hall, and they manage to open the clue using the word “Liberty”. The cryptex has a parchment, which reads “Library of Congress”. Laird calls them and congratulates them on making the Final Three.

There’s plenty of tension now as teams are trying anything with seven letters. Southie Boys manage to stumble upon “Liberty” and are through to the Final Three.

Geniuses find a secret room behind a large picture! Ex-CIA see the same picture, but move on.
